The objective of this thesis is to create a business plan for a small-sized company named Paktia that will be specialised in export of dried fruits and nuts from Afghanistan to Finland.
The main purposes of this study are to define whether this business plan is profitable and to function as a manual for inaugurating and operating a company. The author of the thesis is planning at evaluating different aspects that are related to business planning in international trade organisation. He intends to obtain a wider picture of business planning in general and its practical part. The author’s own learning objective is to use in practice the knowledge obtained during the study in Laurea University of Applied Sciences.
The fundamentals of business planning are outlined in the theoretical framework. This study’s theoretical objective is to define the concepts of business planning, to create a general understanding of the relevant theories of a business plan and the offer a theoretical base for the empirical section. This study’s empirical objective is to construct a business plan for a new company by analyzing the theoretical section, literature, Internet sources and the author’s own knowledge. The thesis represents the main objectives and strategies of business plan, defines the possible competitors and potential customers. The market and industry analysis, financial plan, marketing plan and SWOT-analysis are included in the plan as well.
As this study is a qualitative research, it was operated as a dissertation-type case study. The sources used in the research are formed of interviews, literature and internet sources related to the topic.
As a learning process the study was beneficial to the author. Most possibility the knowledge gathered through analysis of this topic and writing the business plan for a new company will be used by the author in the future when establishing the company.

Subjective image quality comparison between two digital dental radiographic systems and conventional dental film
Objectives: Digital radiography has become an integral part of dentistry. Digital radiography does not require film or dark rooms, reduces X-ray doses, and instantly generates images. The aim of our study was to compare the subjective image quality of two digital dental radiographic systems with conventional dental film. Materials & methods: A direct digital (DD) ‘Digital’ system by Sirona, a semi-direct (SD) digital system by Vista-scan, and Kodak ‘E’ speed dental X-ray films were selected for the study. Endodontically-treated extracted teeth (n = 25) were used in the study. Details of enamel, dentin, dentino-enamel junction, root canal filling (gutta percha), and simulated apical pathology were investigated with the three radiographic systems. The data were subjected to statistical analyzes to reveal differences in subjective image quality. Results: Conventional dental X-ray film was superior to the digital systems. For digital systems, DD imaging was superior to SD imaging. Conclusion: Conventional film yielded superior image quality that was statistically significant in almost all aspects of comparison. Conventional film was followed in image quality by DD, and SD provided the lowest quality images. Conventional film is still considered the gold standard to diagnose diseases affecting the jawbone. Recommendations: Improved software and hardware for digital imaging systems are now available and these improvements may now yield images that are comparable in quality to conventional film. However, we recommend that studies still use more observers and other statistical methods to produce ideal results. Transient spectral hole-burning and slow-light in chromium(III) systems
High-resolution optical spectroscopy in solids has attracted an enormous amount of attention over the past few years on the basis of a wide potential range of applications in the fields of communication, biomedical, defence and industrial applications. Transient spectral hole-burning, a laser-based spectroscopic technique, is used throughout this thesis to investigate the optical properties of the chromium(III) systems such as ruby (Al2O4:Cr3+) and alexandrite (BeAl2O4:Cr3+) crystals at their 4A2 to 2E spin-flip transitions (R1-line) at ~2 K. A spin-level pumping enhanced slow light based on the transient spectral hole-burning is reported. The frequency locking and stabilization of an external-cavity diode laser using the Pound-Drever-Hall technique is described.
Time-resolved transient spectral hole-burning is performed in the R1-line of different ruby samples in zero field and low magnetic fields at ~2.2 K. The generation of slow light in ruby samples was then investigated using the spectral hole-burning technique. Slow light is caused by the spectral hole in the absorption spectrum of the crystal leading to a strong frequency-dependent normal dispersion, resulting in the delay in pulse propagating through the crystal. An external magnetic field further reduces the width of the spectral hole by reducing the electronic spin-flip rates and even slower light is then observed.
A spin-level pumping results in an even slower group velocity of the pulse propagating through the ruby sample when compared without the pumping process. A strong pump pulse applied to the R1(±1/2) line modifies the optical density of the R1(±3/2) line, with the hole-burning performed at the R1(±3/2) line. In addition, the spin-lattice relaxation time of ruby is accurately measured.
High-resolution laser transmission measurements are conducted at the R1m-line of alexandrite at 2.1 K, and its strong luminescent properties are studied by fluorescence and fluorescence decay measurements. Polarized time-resolved transient spectral hole-burning is conducted at the R1m-line of alexandrite at 2.1 K in zero and low magnetic fields BIIa, BIIb and BIIc (B < 12 mT). The Zeeman-level splitting, proportional to the applied field strength, is directly observed from the hole patterns and this allows the accurate determination of the g-factor in the excited state

Hierarchically-structured silver nanoflowers for highly conductive metallic inks with dramatically reduced filler concentration
Silver has long been employed as an electrically conductive component, and morphology-dependent properties have been actively investigated. Here we present a novel scalable synthesis method of flower-shaped silver nanoparticles (silver nanoflowers, Ag NFs). The preferential affinity of citrate molecules on (111) surface of silver enabled spontaneous anisotropic growth of Ag NFs (bud size:250~580 nm, single crystalline petal thickness: 9~22 nm) with high reproducibility and a high yield of >99.5%. The unique hierarchical structure resulted in coalescence of petals over 80~120 °C which was practically employed in conductive inks to construct percolation pathways among Ag NFs. The ink with only 3 wt% of Ag NFs provided two orders of magnitude greater conductivity (1.008 × 105 Scm−1), at a low curing temperature of 120 °C, compared with the silver nanoparticle ink with a much higher silver concentration (50 wt%). This extraordinary property may provide an excellent opportunity for Ag NFs for practical applications in printable and flexible electronics. © The Author(s) 20161351sciescopu
A Superior Method for Constructing Electrical Percolation Network of Nanocomposite Fibers: In Situ Thermally Reduced Silver Nanoparticles
Nanocomposite fibers, composed of conductive nanoparticles and polymer matrix, are crucial for wearable electronics. However, the nanoparticle mixing approach results in aggregation and dispersion problems. A revolutionary synthesis method by premixing silver precursor ions (silver ammonium acetate) with polyvinyl alcohol is reported here. The solvation of ions-prevented aggregation, and uniformly distributed silver nanoparticles (in situ AgNPs, 77 nm) are formed after thermal reduction (155 degrees C) without using additional reducing or dispersion agents. The conductive fiber is synthesized by the wet spinning technology. After careful optimization, flower-shaped silver nanoparticles (AgNFs, 350-450 nm) are also employed as cofillers. The addition of in situ AgNPs (9.5 vol%) to AgNFs (30 vol%) increases electrical conductivity by 1434% (2090 to 32 064 S cm(-1)) through the efficient construction of percolation networks. The in situ AgNPs provide significantly higher conductivity compared with other secondary nanoparticle fillers. The gaseous byproducts dramatically increase flexibility with a moderate compromise in tensile strength (55 MPa). The particle-free ion-level uniform mixing of silver precursors, followed by in situ reduction, would be a fundamental paradigm shift in nanocomposite synthesis.© 2018 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Prevalence of venous thromboembolism risk factors and prophylactic adequacy among general surgical patients in a tertiary care hospital
AbstractIntroductionVenous thromboembolism (VTE) is a disease manifested as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. General surgical procedures are associated with significant risk of precipitating VTE, and despite the surging evidences, it is often overlooked. The study attempted at estimating the prevalence of VTE and bleeding risk factors coupled with the adequacy of thromboprophylaxis administered.MethodologyThe study spanning 1-year duration was executed through collection of data from patients older than 18 years, admitted to the general surgery department of a tertiary care hospital. The data were collected using internally validated data collection form and the appraisal of data was done using SPSS 18.ResultsAmong the 400 subjects enrolled, number of patients in low, moderate, and high risk, as per the Caprini score, was 24%, 35%, and 41%, respectively, with the difference being significant with p<0.001. Bleeding risk was positive in 28% subjects and 36% received any form of prophylaxis other than early ambulation. 28% subjects were identified to have received adequate thromboprophylaxis.ConclusionAlthough the prevalence of 41% individuals at high risk for VTE is comparable to the global prevalence of 41.5%, prophylactic adequacy of 28% was lower than the 33% observed globally. Meticulous planning coupled with operational interventions, such as institutional multidisciplinary thromboprophylactic team, can be an effective strategy at enhancing the prophylactic standards and thereby attaining optimal patient outcomes
