The Sounds of Sadness in Derek Walcott’s Collected Poems 1948-1984
Get PDFPoem is about how someone expresses all his feelings, whether his feeling of sadness, happiness, depression and upset, through a series of words or a dense array. Everyone, surely, has an imprint in the mind so that it becomes material that can be expressed through the medium of poetry, of course, with the words that can best represent their feelings. Unlike prose or drama, that tends to use language or words in a long narrative, poetry chooses words effectively and efficiently to represent the poem’s feelings.
Derek Walcott is a veteran poet whose name skyrocketed when he got the Nobel literature prize in 1992. He revealed many details of how the pain to be colonized nation . He is the only poet who dared Caribbean revealed how grief becomes a colonized who also represents the feeling of most colonized people in the world . Two questions were summarized in ; 1 ) Sadness what may be found in Derek Walcott's poetry ; 1 ) How Derek Walcott expresses the sorrows ? Two questions will be removed by Lucien Goldman structuralism theory . Given the linkages between elements extrinsic and intrinsic elements .
Based on the themes of the poem Walcott , the researchers tried to examine the work of Walcott titled, Derek Walcott Collected Poems 19848-1984 . Inside are the themes of grief and how Walcott's poem tried to convey the sadness that forms in a poem.
So in this research, the researchers used an mimetic approach . According to Abrams , mimetic approach is an approach to the study of literature that focuses its study on the relationship between literature with reality outside literature. Approach that sees literature as imitation and reality. Researchers try to elaborate intrinsic elements contained in the poems Walcott to then associate with extrinsic elements surrounding the history or background of the author . And the method used was descriptive - qualitative method in which the object was originally described to be presented later.
From the results of the study found that the themes of grief contained in Walcott 's work over many sorrows recount the past as a nation never colonized . Walcott always involves elements of culture and history in assembling each poem , so that the reader is brought back as the dark ages of colonization
Role of the gidan-gaado in sustainable urbanization
Get PDFThe traditional Gidan-gaado has continued to be one of the most widespread residential building typologies, which has been accommodating extended family dwelling in the urban cores of Northern Nigerian towns and cities like Keffi. Major motivating factor for this research was that, despite its dominance, the traditional neighbourhoods of Gidaajen-gaado have remainedterritories of urban relegation. Although the neighborhoods lacked basic amenities and infrastructure, the occupants, nevertheless, have remained resolute in preserving their symbol of socio-cultural dignity. That is in line, not only with sustainable urban housing, but also with the concept of cultural sustainability. This research sets out to determine the significance of its sustained existence and dominance, and also the roles it plays in the process of sustainable urbanization. In order to change the status quo, important roles of the Gidan-gaado needed to be explored and brought to the fore. The exploration was conducted against the backdrop of its major characteristics as well as its relevance in urban affairs. The research therefore aimed at proving its significance within the context of sustainable urban housing in Northern Nigeria. Appropriate methodologies were adopted based on providing the best answers to the research questions, in order to attain the objectives. Focus group and interviews were used to acquire in-depth perceptions from sampled participants. Survey was used to capture participants’ perceptions for possible generalization of the research findings. One major finding of the research was that, role of traditional urban Gidan-gaado was very significant from historical and socio-cultural perspectives. Its significance from architectural perspective was spatial rather than physical. A key contribution of this research was the documentation of how Gidaajen-gaado significantly influence sustainable urbanization by virture of their traditional dispositions and cultural dimension. The documentation has comprehensively captured the essence behind continuous existence of Gidan-gaado, within the cultural dimension of sustainability
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. KSU Padurenan Jaya was instrumental in developing the small medium scale enterprises (SMEs) embroidery and convection consists of (1) aspects of the market, by following the events of the exhibition or expo, online marketing, providing material needs in the cooperative store, and create innovative products according to consumer taste. (2) the aspect of technology, by socialization and demonstration of the use technology of embroidery machines, embroidery design with computer programs, internet information technology for promoting and marketing product, And to optimize the use of the machine by provide services embroidery using advanced machine in cooperation so that can improve the productivity and efficiency of the business. (3) the aspect of the capital, by providing save loan service with simple procedures, mentoring to access other sources of financing.</p

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Model Pembelajaran Disiplin di Pesantren Mahasiswa Al-Adzkiya’ Nurus Shofa.
No full textPesantren merupakan instansi berbasis agama yang eksis hingga saat ini. Eksisnya pesantren turut mempengaruhi model-model yang dikembangkan di dalamnya. Salah satunya, model pembelajaran disiplin di Pesantren Al-Adzkiya‘ Nurus Shofa. Pesantren Anshofa—Al-Adzkiya‘ Nurus Shofa—memiliki modelnya sendiri yang khas akan kesadaran tiap individu di dalamnya. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis ingin mengetahui proses, bentuk, serta manfaat model pembelajaran disiplin yang diterapkan di Pesantren Anshofa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi. Penulis mengumpulkan data dengan cara observasi lapangan, wawancara, dan mendokumentasikan fenomena (baik menggunakan catatan harian atau fildnote maupun foto), dengan diakhiri melakukan analisis data yang dilanjutkan menulis karya etnografi. Model pembelajarannya di Pesantren Anshofa mengalami perubahan setiap generasi, dimulai generasi qur‘ani hingga organisasi. Namun, model dari Kiai memiliki ciri khas tersendiri—penulis namai ‗Inspiratif Diri‘. Model tersebut memiliki 4 tahap, diantaranya; (1) santri akan dibiarkan melakukan aktifitas sesuai kehendak mereka masing-masing. Upaya tersebut diiringi dengan memberikan contoh kepada para santri melalui santri kepercayaan Kiai. Selanjutnya, (2) santri yang tidak disiplin—menurut aturan pesantren—akan didiskusikan oleh Kiai dengan Lurah Pesantren untuk mencari solusi kedepannya. Jika solusi hasil diskusi tidak membuahkan hasil, (3) santri akan ditegur oleh Kiai di depan publik pesantren. Dan, ketika santri bersangkutan masih tidak disiplin, (4) santri tersebut diberikan dua pilihan oleh Kiai, yakni; masih menetap di Anshofa dengan menaati peraturan yang berlaku atau keluar dari Anshofa
Pengaruh Platform Alef Education Terhadap Pemahaman Konsep Matematis Siswa Kelas VIII
Get PDFPemahaman konsep matematis ialah pondasi utama dalam membentuk pola berfikir yang logis, khususnya materi relasi dan fungsi yang nantinya berhubungan dengan materi selanjutnya. Namun, pembelajaran ini menggambarkan siswa masih rendah dalam memahami konsep matematis. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji pengaruh penggunaan Platform Alef Education menjadi platform yang menggunakan teknologi dalam rangka mengoptimalkan penguasaan konsep-konsep matematika kelas VIII. Studi ini memakai metode kuantitatif dengan pretest-posttest control. Subjeknya berjumlah 60 peserta didik terbagi dua kelas yaitu kelas eksperimen yang memakai Platform Alef Education dan kelas kontrol tidak memakai Platform Alef Education. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan tes uraian yang telah disusun sesuai indikator pemahaman matematis. Berdasarkan data yang telah dianalisis melalui uji normalitas dan uji homogenitas kemudian diuji dengan Paired Sample t-Test menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kelas eksperimen dari pada kelas kontrol. Penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwasanya dengan Platform Alef Education berdampak positif pada peningkatan dari segi pemahaman siswa. Oleh sebab itu, pemanfaatan Platform Alef Education layak dipertimbangkan sebagai solusi inovatif dalam pembelajaran matematika. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat mengeksplorasi Platform Alef Education pada materi matematika lainnya. Selain itu, perlu dilakukan penelitian jangka panjang untuk mengetahui dampak berkelanjutan dari penggunaan teknologi interaktif dalam proses pembelajaran.

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
