THE ROLE OF NA(2)O(EQ )RATIO ON THE FLOWABILITY AND STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT OF CEMENTITIOUS SYSTEMS IN THE PRESENCE OF A POLYCARBOXYLATE ETHER-BASED ADMIXTURE
In this study, the effect of equivalent Na2O(Na2Oeq) ratio of cement on fresh properties and compressive strength of paste and mortar mixtures containing polycarboxylate ether-based high range water reducing (HRWR) admixture was investigated. A low and a high alkali cement were used. Five mixtures having five different Na2Oeq ratios were prepared with increasing alkali content of the cement by incorporating three different amounts of NaOH solution to the low alkali cement-bearing mixtures. Irrespective of the absence or presence of HRWR, Na2Oeq content of the mixtures was found to have a considerable adverse effect on the fresh properties of the mixtures, particularly on their flow loss. NaOH addition increased 1-day compressive strength of the mortar mixtures, however, reduced the compressive strength at later ages. In spite of having a lower fineness and a longer setting time, low alkali cement showed slightly higher 1-day strength than high alkali cement. This seems to have occurred, to some extent, from the higher HRWR admixture demand (0.4 wt.%) of the high alkali cement-bearing mixture than that of the mix containing low alkali cement (0.25 wt.%). At later ages, both of the cements showed equivalent strength values.Turkish Cement Manufacturers AssociationThe authors would like to thank Baticim and Oyak cement plants for their kind assistance in providing the cements and determining the chemical composition of the cements. Internalizing Wasatiyah Values in Islamic Education for Religious Moderation
This study explores the implementation of wasatiyah (Islamic moderation) principles within Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Indonesia. In response to rising religious intolerance among youth and the national imperative to promote social cohesion, this research examines how moderation is internalized through educational practices. Religious moderation is critical in multicultural societies, yet its implementation in Islamic education remains understudied. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected via interviews, classroom observations, focus group discussions, and document analysis over one academic semester. Findings indicate that has systematically incorporated wasatiyah through interactive teaching methods, contextual discussions, and value-based modeling. Students demonstrated cognitive understanding, affective alignment, and behavioral expression of moderate Islamic values. The integration of Islamic educational philosophy, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and Bandura’s Social Learning Theory facilitated a comprehensive pedagogical framework. Key enabling factors included strong school leadership, teacher competence, and parental support, while challenges such as limited instructional time and digital radicalism persist. This research contributes a theoretical model and practical roadmap for embedding religious moderation into PAI curricula, offering replicable insights for similar educational contexts. The study affirms the transformative potential of wasatiyah-based education in fostering tolerant, reflective, and socially responsible Muslim youth
Multi-effect of superplasticisers main and side-chain length on cementitious systems with fly ash
In this study, the effect of main and side chain lengths of polycarboxylate ether-based high-range water-reducing admixtures (WRAs) on the fresh properties, compressive strength and water absorption of cementitious systems containing 0, 15, 30 and 45 wt% fly ash was investigated. For this purpose, three WRAs with the same molecular weight but different chain lengths were produced. According to the test results, the flowability of the paste and mortars was negatively affected when the length of the main and side chains of the admixture was longer or shorter than a certain value. This adverse effect is thought to arise from weakening of the adsorption of the admixture with an increase in its chain lengths. However, when the main and side chain lengths of the admixture were shorter or longer than a certain value, the time-dependent flow properties of the mortar mixtures improved. The main and side chain lengths of the WRAs did not have a significant effect on the compressive strength and water absorption capacity of the mortar mixtures. However, irrespective of the admixture characteristics, with an increase in fly ash substitution, the flow and time-dependent flow properties of the mixtures were negatively affected but their water absorption decreased.Bursa Uludag University Science and Technology Centre (BAP) [219M425, AYP (MH)-2016/16, DDP (MH)-2018/9, DDP(MH)-2019/15]; TUBITAK [217M408]The authors appreciate contributions of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and Bursa Uludag University Science and Technology Centre (BAP) (grant numbers 219M425, AYP (MH)-2016/16, DDP (MH)-2018/9, DDP(MH)-2019/15). Hadis ahkam

Effect of nonionic side chain length of polycarboxylate-ether-based high-range water-reducing admixture on properties of cementitious systems
Despite the large variations in the behaviors of water-reducing admixtures upon changes in their structures, most previous reports on the cement-admixture compatibility did not provide sufficient information on the structure of the admixture. Hence, the evaluation and generalization of the reports on the cement-admixture compatibility are challenging. in this study, three different polycarboxylate-ether-based water-reducing admixtures with the same free nonionic content, anionic/nonionic molar ratio, and main chain length and different side chain lengths were produced. The compatibility of these admixtures with a CEM I 42.5 R-type cement was investigated. in addition, an analysis of variance was performed on the experiment results to evaluate the contributions of the admixture type, admixture/cement ratio, and elapsing time to the Marsh funnel flow time, mini-slump, slump flow, and compressive strength. The water-reducing admixtures having long or short side chains reduced the initial flow characteristics of the cementitious systems. However, the admixture having the shortest side chain was better with regard to flow retention. The side chain length of the admixture did not have significant effects on the compressive strength and water absorption capacity of the mortar mixtures and mini-slump performances of the cement paste mixtures. Regarding the behaviors of the admixtures in the cementitious systems, an optimal admixture side chain molecular weight is proposed.Scientific and Technological Research Council of TurkeyTurkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [219M425]; Bursa Uludag University Science and Technology Center [AYP (MH)-2016/16, DDP (MH)-2018/9, DDP(MH)-2019/15]; TUBITAKTurkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [217M408]The authors express their sincere gratitude to the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Grant No. 219M425) and Bursa Uludag University Science and Technology Center (Grant Nos. Correlation of serum parathyroid hormone with pulmonary artery pressure in non-diabetic regular hemodialysis patients
Abstract
Introduction: Pulmonary artery hypertension in end-stage renal disease is associated by significantly increased
morbidity and mortality. Serum parathormone may increase among patients on hemodialysis and influence various
organs.
Objectives: This study sought to find the association of serum parathormone level and pulmonary artery pressure in a
group of non-diabetic patients on regular hemodialysis.
Materials and Methods: This prospective investigation was conducted in the hemodialysis section of Shahrekord
University of Medical Sciences in 2013. Doppler echocardiography were used to assess pulmonary artery pressure.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension is defined as systolic PAP≥35 mm Hg at rest. Serum parathormone was measured by
ECL method.
Results: Sixty-five, non-diabetic hemodialysis patients were studied. Mean (±SD) of age of the patients was 56.35±20.41
years. Mean (±SD) of iPTH was 251.55±97.27 pg/ml. In this study, a significant positive association of serum iPTH with
pulmonary artery pressure in patients was seen (r=0.27, p=0.029).
Conclusion: In the present study, we detected a significant positive association of serum parathyroid hormone with
pulmonary artery pressure of hemodialysis patients however, our observations, warranting further investigations to
