Comparative Political Philosophy and Political Deliberation: An Exploration of Deliberative Practices in Pakistan

This thesis attempts to explore deliberative practices in Pakistan. In doing so, it draws on and extends the literature produced under two relatively new academic fields—the fields of deliberative theory and comparative political philosophy—which are gaining prominence in the academic world. Although these two academic fields appear quite different but this thesis argues that they are not only complimentary but can also benefit each other in their further theoretical development. In order to show this complimentary relationship between deliberative theory and comparative political philosophy, this thesis explores deliberative practices in an authoritarian non-Western context. More specifically, it explores the role of deliberation in the democratization of Pakistan. This thesis analyzes the case of Pakistan Lawyers’ Movement during the military dictatorship (2007-2009) and how it paved the way to the process of democratization in the country. Although democratization of societies at large has always been at the core of deliberative theory, but comparative studies of democratization have completely missed the deliberative aspect which makes transition to democracy possible. Through Dryzek’s concept of deliberative capacity, this thesis investigates the role of Pakistan Lawyers’ Movement in building this capacity across different locations in the political system. The concept of deliberative capacity is being used in the larger context of systemic turn in deliberative theory. This latest trend helps us to study deliberation at a macro level and is not specifically tied to liberal institutional arrangements of states in the West. This thesis attempts to interpret Pakistan Lawyers’ Movement through the lens of deliberative theory. Pakistan Lawyers’ Movement throws new light on the normative aspects of deliberative theory and also helps us to understand the nature of deliberation in Pakistani context. The case of Pakistan Lawyers’ Movement provokes reflection on normative principles of deliberative democracy, helps us understand the nature of deliberation in an authoritarian context, extends current scholarship on the comparative studies of democratization by spelling out the deliberative potential of the regime, and contributes to the ongoing debate on comparative political philosophy as an academic field in the age of globalization. This thesis attempts to explore deliberative practices in Pakistan. I-Rope is created to overcome the problem faced by the consumer which is currently using the basic skipping with only one purpose. They also must use separated equipment to perform one activity such as skipping. So, this business of I-Rope product will present to the customer about the benefits of using this product with minimal issues. This product can by used with three in one of its function which is it can be used by using the new technologies implemented in this I-Rope which are a pedometer and a timer. By using this product, the consumer can perform the activity without using separate equipment. The target market for this product will the athletes or the sports teams. The advantage of this product is this product has more than one functions rather than the basic skipping ropes. The potential profitability of this product is it will achieve until around RM800,000 by its annual growth until the third year. Therefore, this management team consists of general manager, administrative manager, financial manager, operational manager, and marketing manager will take their actions to increase their profit, increase this product’s reputation, and make this product until worldwide known product

Language learning strategies of ESL students in online distance learning environment / Nur Alyani Khairol Anuar & Muhammad Irfan Mokhtar

This study reports on the use of Language Learning Strategies by L2 learners in online distance learning environment. When learning, learners will either consciously or unconsciously use language learning strategy (LLS) in order to process new information in their language lesson. In 1990, Oxford comes out with Strategies Inventory of Language Learning (SILL). This inventory has six broad categories: Cognitive, Memory, Affective, Meta- cognitive, Compensatory, and Social strategies. Various researches then have been conducted with their focus on LLS in L2 learning. LLS has been found to help learners to achieve better language achievement. While technology keeps on moving forward, it also lays its effects on teaching and learning process. The advent of technology gives L2 learners the opportunity to learn the language in technology-mediated environment. Thus, this study examined the preference of L2 learners in LLS when learning English in online distance environment. 78 respondents were involved in this study and questionnaires were given as the research instrument. Result shows that in term of LLS preference, learners used more Compensation strategy when learning English online. There is also a significant difference between male and female learners in term of LLS use. Female used more LLS as compared to male. Female learners preferred to use Metacognitive strategy, while male used Compensation strategy the most. The findings of this study have pedagogical impacts on English teaching and learning process

Assalamualaikum, during making this business opportunity, I learnt a lot about how to manage business and how to control my income. It also give a lot of experience that make me more hardworking, supportive and brave person. I would like to thank to my friends and my lecture because conduct and support me until I can finish my assignment. Firstly, the Chakcerbor was a local homemade product that produce halal food. I sold a product from Chakeerbor which is homemade popcorn. This product is one and only product that Chakeerbor made. This is the food product that have been chosen from all Malaysian people because the products were delicious and the price is also reasonable and affordable. I would like to recommend this product to all people who love a junk food and also when they watch a television or play phone. The ingredients that they used is follow Halal ingredients that Malaysia government set. Chakeerbor also hires a dropship to help unemployed to generate passive income, and I participate as a dropship. During being a dropship, I got many experiences and learnt a lot in making business grow and I hope this experience will give me a little bit knowledge about how to make a business. When I started to sold those item, I figure out that my individual skill like communication was improved. Next, I also learn how to handle the customer behaviour and I can learn that when I trying to approach someone like selling item to them. I also learnt how to promote my products in all social media and it will help to gain a bigger profit. Last but not least, I will show you what I have sold within 1 month. I managed to get net profit between RM 50-RM100 within 1 month

Analysis of a Model for Generating Weakly Scale-free Networks

    No full text
It is commonly believed that real networks are scale-free and fraction of nodes P(k)P(k) with degree kk satisfies the power law P(k)kγ for k>kmin>0P(k) \propto k^{-\gamma} \text{ for } k > k_{min} > 0. Preferential attachment is the mechanism that has been considered responsible for such organization of these networks. In many real networks, degree distribution before the kmink_{min} varies very slowly to the extent of being uniform as compared with the degree distribution for k>kmink > k_{min} . In this paper, we proposed a model that describe this particular degree distribution for the whole range of k>0k>0. We adopt a two step approach. In the first step, at every time stamp we add a new node to the network and attach it with an existing node using preferential attachment method. In the second step, we add edges between existing pairs of nodes with the node selection based on the uniform probability distribution. Our approach generates weakly scale-free networks that closely follow the degree distribution of real-world networks. We perform comprehensive mathematical analysis of the model in the discrete domain and compare the degree distribution generated by these models with that of real-world networks
