Anxiety disorder is a mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide.Common treatments for anxiety include psychotherapy and medications, such as benzodiazepines and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).However, these treatments have adverse effects and may not be suitable for everyone. As a result, there is a growing interest in exploring natural remedies for anxiety, including those derived from plants.Moringa oleifera, a plant known for its medicinal properties, has recently gained attention for its potential anxiolytic effects. This plant has been traditionally used to treat various ailments, including anxiety. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of understanding on the mechanism of action of M. oleifera in anxiolytic effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the anxiolytic effects and mechanism of action of ethanolic extracts of M. oleifera (MOLE) leaves,by observing behavioural changes in Danio rerio (zebrafish) and analyzing differential gene expression. For 14-day chronic behavior study, zebrafish were grouped into different treatment groups, including a non-stressed untreated group, stressed untreated group, a positive control group treated with fluoxetine and MOLE treatments group. MOLE was administered at three different concentrations (500 mg/L, 1000 mg/L, and 2000 mg/L) in the stressed treatment groups. The anxiolytic effects were evaluated using the novel tank test (NTT) and light-dark test (LDT). After the behaviour study, RNA was extracted from the fishes’ brains for gene expression analysis using a custom RT² Profiler PCR array. 33 compounds were profiled after LCMS-QTOF analysis. LC50 values of MOLE, 1231 mg/L,were deemed save to be used for this research. Meanwhile, behavior study results showed that 1000 mg/L MOLE significantly reduced anxiety levels in the stress-induced zebrafish group compared to the other treatment groups. The fish also exhibited significant changes in the expression of crhb, faah2a, mao, and pah genes; which potentially affected by MOLE compounds such as quercetin and kaempferol. This study suggests that MOLE may serve as a potential new supplement for anxiety treatment, given its anxiolytic effect on the zebrafish model. However, the result of this study would need to be replicated in other animal models and human before it is marketed as treatment for anxiolytic effects

Access is limited to UniMAP community.Crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) is a derived of cellulose with nano size that can be found in many lignocellulosic biomass such as coconut husk. CNC has its special features on developing new materials as well as to improve the performance of other products. CNC can be produced by two steps of dissolution process namely alkaline pretreatment and followed by acid hydrolysis. Three of the operating parameters were identified in this research known as temperature, reaction time and solvent concentration. Central Composite Design (CCD) was used in analyzing the optimum conditions of CNC production. There were 12 runs of preliminary analysis and 20 runs optimization analysis was carried out. From the result obtained, the optimum condition for CNC production was 60.00 min, 62.50 ℃ and 65.50% and the highest solubility obtained was 26.53%. Characterization of the CNC was also carried out by using equipment Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to analyse the bond strength of CNC and surface structure respectively. Overall, this project optimize the production of CNC via dissolution of coconut husk with acid hydrolysis which is a common and economical method

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Access is limited to UniMAP community. This research presents the simulation fluid flow of model WLF922 Level Flow Process Control Training System that been used in Bioprocess Engineering Laboratory (UniMAP). In three dimensional geometry models of level process control was constructed by using Design Modeler ANSYS Fluent 15.0. Next the grid dependency study was performed by difference size of meshing been numerically simulated by using the Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) ANSYS Fluent 15.0. The boundary condition was applied to simulate based on the experimental parameters. The parameter that had been used varies with mass flow rate at 0.303 kg/s, 0.314 kg/s, 0.325 kg/s, 0.333 kg/s and 0.339 kg/s of water. The result showed that, medium mesh was selected for simulation because less than 30% percentage error and minimum time consuming to convergence. So it can save the time to simulate the model. The CFD model is validated by comparing the actual experimental result with the simulation result for control process

Solubility enhancement of crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) via dissolution of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB)

    No full text
Access is limited to UniMAP community.Crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) has been widely recognized as an important material with high potential in contributing to a wide range of field. In this project, CNC has been produced by dissolution of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) using ionic liquid treatment. As for the pretreatment process, alkaline pretreatment has been carried out as it removes lignin and hemicellulose effectively before proceeding with ionic liquid treatment. The solubility of CNC from OPEFB has been optimised based on its effect of temperature, process time and solvent concentration. From this project, the optimum condition to obtain the highest solubility of CNC from the dissolution of OPEFB of 31.44% has been found to be at temperature of 95 ℃, process time of 129 minutes and solvent concentration of 95%. The CNC produced was also studied for its characterization using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectorcopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. The novelity of this project is that the CNC is produced using a green and environmental friendly approach by using the ionic liquid, 1-butyl-metylimidazolium chloride, BmimCl, which is known to be a green solvent that is recyclable
