Enhanced image annotations based on spatial information extraction and ontologies

    No full text
Current research on image annotation often represents images in terms of labelled regions or objects, but pays little attention to the spatial positions or relationships between those regions or objects. To be effective, general purpose image retrieval systems require images with comprehensive annotations describing fully the content of the image. Much research is being done on automatic image annotation schemes but few authors address the issue of spatial annotations directly. This paper begins with a brief analysis of real picture queries to librarians showing how spatial terms are used to formulate queries. The paper is then concerned with the development of an enhanced automatic image annotation system, which extracts spatial information about objects in the image. The approach uses region boundaries and region labels to generate annotations describing absolute object positions and also relative positions between pairs of objects. A domain ontology and spatial information ontology are also used to extract more complex information about the relative closeness of objects to the viewer

Enhanced image retrieval using spatial information and ontologies

New approaches are essential to improve the inference of semantic relationships from low-level features for image annotation and retrieval. Current research on image annotation sometimes represents images in terms of regions and objects, but pays little attention to the spatial relationships between those regions or objects. Annotations are most frequently assigned at the global level, and even when assigned locally the extraction of relational descriptors is often neglected. To enrich the semantic description of the visual information, the use of spatial relationships offers one way to describe objects in an image more richly and often captures a relevant part of information in the image. In this thesis, new approaches for enhancing image annotation and retrieval by capturing spatial relationships between labelled objects in images are developed. Starting with an assumption of the availability of labelled objects, algorithms are developed for automatically extracting absolute object positional terms and relative terms describing the relative positions of objects in the image. Then, by using order of magnitude height information for objects in the domain of interest, relative distance of objects from the camera position in the real world are extracted, together with statements about nearness of objects to each other in the image and nearness in the real world. A knowledge-based representation is constructed using spatial and domain specific ontologies, and the system stores the asserted spatial statements about the images, which may then be used for image retrieval. The resulting Spatial Semantic Image System is evaluated using precision, recall and F-scores to test retrieval performance, and a small user trial is employed to compare the system’s spatial assertions with those made by users. The approach is shown to be capable of handling effectively a wide range of queries requiring spatial information and the assertions made by the system are shown to be broadly in line with human perceptions

Hasil analisis metode SWEAT diverifikasi dengan data aktual (data synop) yang diamati di Stasiun Meteorologi Sultan Iskandar Muda dan diketahui persentase kesesuaian antara data prakiraan dengan kondisi aktual yaitu 58,62-66,67%.One of the most important things in aviation safety is the accurate information of meteorology especially on bad weather conditions as thunderstorm. Therefore, need to forecast about potential occurrence of thunderstorm, so the airlines can adjust safety aviation when take of, an the route, and landing. In this research was analysis of radiosonde data has been done on two monsoon, they are summer and winter to forecast potential occurrence of thunderstorm since period April-December 2016 and January-March 2017. The radiosonde data was got from Meteorological Station of Sultan Iskandar Muda that had been measured every two times a day. The measuring time is 00Z and 12Z. Radiosonde data is processed by Software Rawinsonde Observation (RAOB) versi 5.7 until get information about the atmosphere parameters such as temperature, dew point, and wind speed. The atmosphere parameters can be used to forecast the potential occurrence of thunderstorm for the next twelve hours, using SWEAT (Severe Weather Threat) method until get SWEAT Index for every radiosonde measurement. Based on the research that has been done, the range of SWEAT Index for Meteorological Station of Sultan Iskandar Muda area is about 39,8 - 355,4. The result of analysis SWEAT method verified with the actual data (synop data) that is observed at Meteorological Station of Sultan Iskandar Muda and get the suitability of persentase between forecast data with actual condition is 58,62% - 66, 67%.Keyword: Thunderstorm, SWEAT Method, SWEAT Index, Synop Data, MeteorologicalREFERENCEBudiarti, M., Muslim, M., dan Ilhamsyah, Y. 2012. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    No full text
We report the first case of acute cholestatic hepatitis induced by bupropion. This antidepressant was taken by a 49-year-old female as adjuvant treatment to stop smoking. After 20 days of bupropion, the patient presented a symptomatology characterized by asthenia, nausea and scleral icterus and biochemical analyses showed a dramatic increase in direct bilirubin [up to 28 mg/dl] and transaminases [up to 68-fold normal limits]. Antinuclear antibodies were positive [title = 1:80,- speckled pattern]. Biochemical analyses and antinuclear antibodies were normal two years earlier. The histology showed a pattern of acute hepatitis with involvement of bile ducts and with features of centrolobular cholestasis, Treatment with methylprednisolone was commenced and continued for 20 days. Liver enzymes and bilirubin returned to normal within two months of withdrawal of bupropion and remained normal during the 4-month follow-up, Antinuclear antibodies also became negative. Other causes of liver damage were excluded. Considering the clinical diagnostic scale for hepatotoxic adverse drug reaction, our patient showed a score compatible with the final diagnosis of bupropion-related cholestatic hepatitis
