Acanthamoeba encystment: multifactorial effects of buffers, biocides, and demulcents present in contact lens care solutions
Christopher J Kovacs, Shawn C Lynch, Marjorie J Rah, Kimberly A Millard, Timothy W Morris Bausch & Lomb Incorporated, Rochester, NY, USA Purpose: To determine whether agents which are purportedly capable of inducing encystment of Acanthamoeba can recapitulate the signal when tested in differing formulations. Methods: In accordance with the International Standard ISO 19045, Acanthamoeba castellanii ATCC 50370 trophozoites were cultured in antibiotic-free axenic medium, treated with test solutions, and encystment rates plus viability were measured via bright field and fluorescent microscopy. Test solutions included phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), borate-buffered saline, biguanide- and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-based biocides, propylene glycol (PG) and povidone (POV) ophthalmic demulcents, and one-step H2O2-based contact lens disinfection systems. Results: Only PBS solutions with 0.25 ppm polyaminopropyl biguanide (PAPB) and increasing concentrations of PG and POV stimulated A. castellanii encystment in a dose-dependent manner, whereas PBS solutions containing 3% H2O2 and increasing concentrations of PG and POV did not stimulate encystment. Borate-buffered saline and PBS/citrate solutions containing PG also did not stimulate encystment. In addition, no encystment was observed after 24 hours, 7 days, or 14 days of exposures of trophozoites to one-step H2O2 contact lens disinfection products or related solutions. Conclusion: The lack of any encystment observed when trophozoites were treated with existing or new one-step H2O2 contact lens care products, as well as when trophozoites were exposed to various related test solutions, confirms that Acanthamoeba encystment is a complex process which depends upon simultaneous contributions of multiple factors including buffers, biocides, and demulcents. Keywords: propylene glycol, contact lens care system, hydrogen peroxide disinfecting solutio
(A) Study on the Time and Space of Rah, Do-Hyang's Novels
The novels of Rah, Do-Hyang, who is an author in 1920's, show the process very well that Korean novels develop. Yet, the studies on his novels till now are limited to the author himself, and a detailed analysis of his novels was lacking. This paper starts with recognizing the limitation of those studies. It aims to analyze the novels of Rah, Do-Hyang in detail and to extract meaning from them. Through the extraction of chronotope(henceforth, The Time and Space will be used instead of chronotope) meaning in the novels of Rah, Do-Hyang, we can reach to the ultimate point of his consciousness.
A literary work is an organism which functions with are closely related to Time and Space, and also the language and character in the work is closely related to Time and Space. In this way Time and Space in the liteary work operates as a fundamental element which organize the individual events into the story of the novel. The Time and Space of literary studies act as a whole frame which is a generating principle of the work's inner meaning and affects even the theme of that novel. When Time forms in a literary wort it tends to be recognized to the readers as a spatial order. Time and Space depends upon each other, and Time is largely dependent upon the concreteness of Space. Therefore, the Space including this meaning of Time would be taken as a methodological frame for the study of literary works in this paper. The Space is a semantic space which constitutes the content of a novel and makes us consider the author's consciousness in the real world.
The real world is recognized negatively for Rah, Do-Hyang and this appeals as an action of character, that sinks into the space of the past. Section A of chap.Ⅱ shows the author's consciousness to escape to the past in order to reveal the negativity of real world. The early novels of Rah represents the direction of the author's consciousness which centers around the inner space in the past. Such an inner space is opposed to the time of the present and it is realized as a longing for 'his mother'. That is, the author paradoxically proves the negativity of the present by examining the space of the past. <Being expelled from the School>, <The Time of a Youth>, <The Dream of Old Days Was Pale>, <Mother> and etc. are the early novels of Rah.
In section B of chap. 2, 'the present' as a negative Time and Space is expressed in a detailed and concrete way. The space of the present has the extreme situation of a season 'winter' and is a place which makes a character depressed and discouraged. Unlike the internal and secrete space of the past, the space of the present is expended rather to the outer space of society. However, such a outer space is a completely closed place and there a character gets depressed. <A Silver Coin, a Nieckel Coin>, <Seventeen Won Fifty Cheon>, <Contradiction>, <A Woman Hair Dresser>, <Before I Find Myself> and <A Few Phrases of a Bus Conductor's Diary> are the works of this period.
Chap. Ⅲ represents the acting space of a character who recognizes the situation of no escape from the present, and gropes for the transcendence from the present. In Section A of this chapter the works like <A Dumb, Sam-Ryoung-I>, <A Dream> are analyzed. in which the groping of character risingly developes to positive actions. Since the superficial result is represented as the the death of a character, it says that the negative real world is so firm and strong.
The author's active confrontation of Real world can be observed through a character's will to find an escape. In section B says that a character has a will to overcome the present, however, it is absolutely miscarried and frustrated in the space of falling action. Such a solidity of negative reality could be well shown in the works like <A Water Mill>, <Chi, Hyang-Keun>, <The Mulberry Leaves> Rah, Do-Hyang has lived in those days when any hope is fully obstructed and therefore tried to express the negativity of the present through his many works consistently.
Showing the space of negative present and longing the space of past are related to frustration in real world. This could be the author's consciousness that represents the dark situation of 1920's through his works with realistic techniques.

Gambling is often considered in line with the development of human civilization.
Even in the age of empires, gambling activities already existed and became
something popular. In its development, gambling activities are influenced by the
culture of the community, but the system remains the same, there are goods or
objects that are at stake and there are subjects that become betting tools. Author
conducted research on cockfighting. The type of research that I use is empirical
research. Basically, cockfighting gambling is an act of criminality that occurs a lot
in society. The consequences of cockfighting gambling itself cause negative social
effects in the eyes of the community. There is a difference between cockfighting for
the tabuh rah ceremony and the cockfighting gambling itself. Community members
often use tabuh rah as an excuse even though the tabuh rah does not contain
elements of gambling, but the community members include elements of gambling in
tabuh rah and turn the ritual of religious ceremonies into tajen. People often use
tabuh rah as an arena for gambling even though tabuh rah is a sacred religious
ceremonial ritual
Agreement and verb movement:The Rich Agreement Hypothesis from a typological perspective
This thesis investigates the so-called Rich Agreement Hypothesis (RAH), the hypothesis that correlates the syntactic position of the verb with properties of subject-verb agreement morphology. While the RAH has been found to make correct predictions in many Indo-European languages, little remains known about the extent to which it holds beyond Indo-European. In an approach that combines linguistic theory and typological methodology, Formal Generative Typology, the author evaluates the RAH in twenty-four genetically distant non-Indo-European languages. The analyses show that there is strong evidence in support of the hypothesis in most languages, whereas in a small subset of investigated languages, the RAH cannot be evaluated. While the study affirms the validity of a growing trend of conducting typological research in the context of a theoretical framework, the outcome of these analyses places the RAH in a position of a potential (abstract) universal. This thesis is relevant to scholars working on the general theory of verb movement and its relation to the morphological properties of the verb. More broadly, the study contributes to the understanding of the interaction between syntax and morphology and is of interest to a general syntactic and typological readership

It had been about velocity anomaly for zones "X" make the Layer Cake Method. In this survey needs seismic section, well data, log data and synthetic seismogram. Means of this method is devide in sesimic section become 5 layers from datum to the top formation, it's needed and interpreted to yield Time Interval Map per layer.
Then, it's computing interval velocity per layers for each wells and that values ploting in base map to make Interval Velocity Map per layers. Thereafter, to comput the depth per layers for each wells and values ploting in base map to make Depth Structure Map per layer. And then, it's analys velocity in that zone.

Dress: an exhibition about clothes and why we wear them
In 1887, the Ancoats Art Museum put their Model Dress on display to the public. Made from Silk and placed in a glass cabinet alongside example fabrics by William Morris, it was designed to inspire working women to wear more functional and beautiful clothing and to influence their behaviour and moral character. With this in mind, the museum even offered the dress pattern for sale for tuppence. 18 years later in 1905. a group of women from the Fawcett Debating Society challenged the committee and the design of the dress. Their polite but firm feedback to the committee was summarised in one word: the dress was "inconvenient". This exhibition documents this story and explore what we wear and why we wear it. A reimagining of the original dress is disrupted by creative responses to the story by young women from Wythenshawe. The exhibition also features portraits of the participants and historical research on the Model Dress and its makers
