Spells as the examples of faith in the magic of word in the culture of ancient Slavs
Abstract
Nowadays, the ritual sphere is pushed to the margins of the human consciousness. For the general public it is only associated with superstitions, while the linguists link it with its magical function. The faith of the ancient slavs considered “the word” as a material unit. The titled spell is handed down from a generation to generation with the use of texts, which constituted one of the first literary genre of the folk prose. In this article this literary genre was presented as part of the rituals and the role of these texts was noted in the people’s lives. Among the ancient slavs, there was a deep belief in the magical power of a word and circumspection in the use of the language. The author discusses the structure of spells and subdivides them. Furthermore, he draws attention to the heroes of these magic formulas. Closely related to the topic of spells are also the ‘professions’ earning their living from them, which was also pondered in this article.

Age models of sixteen Black Sea cores between 68.9 and 14.5 ka
Age models of M72/5 cores were constrained by 16 accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) 14C dating in core M72/5-24GC3 (Nowaczyk et al., 2012), and by identifications of the Campanian Ignimbrite tephra at 39.3 ± 0.11 ka ('Y5', e.g., De Vivo et al., 2001) and the Cape Riva tephra at 21.8 ± 0.4 ka ('Y2' e.g., Fabbro et al., 2013) in Black Sea sediments reported by Cullen et al. (2014) and Nowaczyk et al. (2012). The cores' age models were further refined by tuning sedimentologic parameters, e.g., ice rafted debris (IRD) counts and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) logs (mainly Ca/Ti and K/Ti ratios) presented by Nowaczyk et al. (2012), to the oxygen isotope (δ18O) record from Greenland ice cores (NGRIP) based on the GICC05 age model ( Svensson et al., 2008).
For MSM33 cores, age models were also achieved by correlating their XRF elementary ratios (mainly Ca/Ti and K/Ti), as proxies for the 'Dansgaard-Oeschger' (D-O) warming events (Dansgaard et al., 1993), to the NGRIP δ18O record.
Four intervals of K/Ti ratio peaks and low S-ratios identified in M72/5 and MSM33 cores (Liu et al., 2018) were correlated to the reddish layers related to meltwater events during the decay of the Fennoscandian ice sheet, with AMS 14C ages from about 17 to 15 ka, described from the western Black Sea (Bahr et al. 2006; Soulet et al., 2013)
Fast Genetic Algorithm For Feature Selection — A Qualitative Approximation Approach
We propose a two-stage surrogate-assisted evolutionary approach to address the computational issues arising from using Genetic Algorithm (GA) for feature selection in a wrapper setting for large datasets. The proposed approach involves constructing a lightweight qualitative meta-model by sub-sampling data instances and then using this meta-model to carry out the feature selection task. We define "Approximation Usefulness" to capture the necessary conditions that allow the meta-model to lead the evolutionary computations to the correct maximum of the fitness function. Based on our procedure we create CHCQX a Qualitative approXimations variant of the GA-based algorithm CHC (Cross generational elitist selection, Heterogeneous recombination and Cataclysmic mutation). We show that CHCQX converges faster to feature subset solutions of significantly higher accuracy, particularly for large datasets with over 100K instances. We also demonstrate the applicability of our approach to Swarm Intelligence (SI), with results of PSOQX, a qualitative approximation adaptation of the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method. A GitHub repository with the complete implementation is available2. Udział polskich żołnierzy w operacjach wojskowych w Iraku i Afganistanie: zarys przyczyn i skutków uczestnictwa (na podstawie autobiograficznych relacji weteranów wojennych)
Abstract: The article presents the preliminary findings of the author concerning the reasons and the effects of the participation of the Polish troops in military operations on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Iraq. The author has
used the research materials collected by a sociologist Olga Nowaczyk, PhD and the author’s own sources, as well as the books which describe the issue of the Polish participation in military missions abroad. The passages of the stories told by the soldiers are the result of the autobiographical narrative interviews conducted by the author and Olga Nowaczyk, they also come from other written sources. The author verifies the hypotheses which she made when she began studying the narratives created by the soldiers. The article also raises the problems of the ethical aspects of conducting this kind of research
Zastosowanie niepegylowanej doksorubicyny liposomalnej w obustronnym raku piersi
Breast cancer is the most common cancer between women. It is the most common cancer among residents of USA, Canada, Australia and West Europe. Metastatic breast cancer is an incurable disease. Women with metastatic breast cancer are treated with systemic therapy. In this phase of the disease treatment is palliative and its aim is to prolong and improve the quality of life. Not yet determined the optimal first-line treatment regimen. The selection should take into account the effectiveness and adverse event profile depending on the individual characteristics of patients.
The most active biological agents used to treat breast cancer are anthracyclines. The use of anthracyclines is limited by their cardiotoxicity mainly as a consequence of triggering of congestive heart failure. Currently, there is a possibility to re-apply after the introduction of liposomal anthracyclines form of these drugs.
Onkol. Prak. Klin. 2010; supl.

The paper is an analysis of the arguments contained by Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz in his article on the applicability of pure logic to philosophical issues (1934). The author argues that philosophers in support of their claims can not use pure logic statements as evidence. Because theses formulate their common language, they can only appeal to the logic of everyday language, an alternative to the modern systems of symbolic logic
Urok Platona. Refleksje nad ontologią Romana Ingardena [2009]
The author examines ontological premises adopted in the Controversy over the Existence
of the World by Roman Ingarden. He points out that these premises have been informed
by mereological insights. This reading of Ingarden is substantiated by the postulate that
‘pure qualities’ are components of ‘ideas’ and constitute their proper parts. This is the
reason why they cannot be attributed to individuals as their properties. The role of
properties is consequently filled in by ‘concretizations’, proposed as a new category of
existence. This author claims however that ‘concretizations’ can be easily dispensed with
by reinterpreting ideas in the distributive mode. Assuming this new rendition, one makes
it possible to interpret ‘pure qualities’ as properties of possible individuals, which results
in a comfortable simplification of Ingarden’s ontology
Urok Platona. Refleksje nad ontologią Romana Ingardena
The author claims that Ingarden\u27s ontology is a contemporary version of Platonism. He argues
that the concepts of distinct realizations of pure and ideal qualities in ideas and in individuals
are unclear and unnecessary. In authors opinion the essential parts of Ingarden\u27s ontology may by
explained in terms of possible and real individuals and its possible properties
Antynomia kłamcy w ujęciu Tarskiego [Tarski's Exposition of The Liar Antynomy]
Jan Wawrzyniak maintains (in “Analiza i Egzystencja” 2011, Vol. 15) that Tarski’s solution of the liar antynomy is allegedand inconsistent. The author argues that such opinion is based on false assumptions and in order to demonstrate that Tarski’sreasoning is correct presents its detailed reconstruction
