Robust and Resilient GNSS Synchronization of LEO Satellites for Space-based Aircraft Multilateration
This paper aims at developing a robust and resilient synchronization framework for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites based on the combination of GNSS and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) via inter-satellite link. The satellite synchronization is needed to enable precise aircraft tracking in areas without radar coverage, by leveraging Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) signals and advanced localization algorithms, exploiting Time Of Arrival (TOA), Frequency Of Arrival (FOA), and Angle Of Arrival (AOA). An Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) corrects onboard clock errors in real time, while detecting and mitigating anomalies or cyber-attacks like GNSS jamming, spoofing or denial of service. Nanosecond accuracy under nominal and disrupted conditions is obtained, significantly enhancing safety and reliability of the tracking system

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Tubular and genetic disorders associated with kidney stones
This concise review summarizes our current understanding and the recent developments in genetics and related renal tubular disorders that have been linked with, or have been shown to be causal in, renal stone disease. The aim is to provide a readily accessible quick and easy update for urologists, nephrologists and endocrine or metabolic physicians whose practice involves the diagnosis and management of nephrolithiasis. An important message is to always consider a seemingly rare, and usually genetic, cause of kidney stones, since some of these are emerging as more common than originally thought, especially in adult clinical practice in which a family history of stones is a common finding

The Right to Strike under the United States Constitution: Theory, Practice, and Possible Implications for Canada
Answering critics of the Canadian Supreme Court's judgment in B.C. Health, the author argues that the Court laid the foundation for a principled and durable doctrine protecting constitutional labour rights, one that goes directly to the heart of the matter — the inequality of workers’ power in the employment relation. In the author’s view, two paths could lead from B.C. Health to the recognition of Charter protec- tion for a right to strike: one that treats the right as an accessory to col- lective bargaining, and one that upholds the right directly on the basis of the Charter values of equality and participation. The author supports the latter approach, contending that constitutional rights should be defined in relation to fundamental values, in a way that is not contingent on time-bound or fact-sensitive assessments about the role of strikes within a particular collective bargaining regime. Although a Charter right to strike may involve the courts in difficult choices about when to defer to legislative policy decisions, and courts may lack the institutional capac- ity to deal effectively with labour law issues, the author points out that judges can look to ILO standards for expert guidance. Noting that the U.S. experience in this area might be of considerable use to Canadians, the author concludes by providing an overview of American case law concerning a constitutional right to strike.Peer reviewe
An Experimental-Numerical Investigation on the Effects of the Macroporous Scaffold Geometry on Cell Culture Parameters
The microstructure of Carbopol in water under static and flow conditions and its effect on the yield stress
In this work, experimental observations of the microstructure of neutralized polyacrylic acid (Carbopol) in water by confocal microscopy under both static and flow conditions are presented. In the former case, a Carbopol-rich phase made by swollen particles dispersed in a water-rich continuous phase is found, so that the system will be henceforth referred to as a suspension, as long as particles are observed. The swollen particles form dendritic-like aggregates, which span the entire solution volume above a critical concentration. In such conditions, a percolated network can be formed, leading to the onset of a yield stress behavior. By separating the dispersed and continuous phase through centrifugation, we provide evidence of a miscibility gap in the phase behavior of Carbopol in water. When the Carbopol suspensions flow in a microfluidic capillary, a particle-concentrated plug core can be distinguished from a less concentrated layer corresponding to a steep velocity decrease. Confocal imaging also shows that the apparent slip found in Carbopol suspensions is due to a particle-concentrated near-wall region, where no flow is observed. Such flow-induced microstructure is responsible for the different nature of the yield stress values measured by classical rheometry and by flow velocimetry. While the yield stress measured by the former can be here related to the presence of a percolated network, the yield stress obtained from the velocity profile is due to the heterogeneous particle distribution along the capillary radius. These results provide a novel insight on the mechanisms governing yield stress in complex fluids
Discovery of noscapine derivatives as potential β-tubulin inhibitors
Twenty novel 1,2,3-triazole noscapine derivatives were synthesized starting from noscapine by consecutive N-demethylation, reduction of lactone ring, N-propargylation and Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction. In order to select the most promising molecules to subject to further biophysical and biological evaluation, a molecular docking analysis round was performed using noscapine as reference compound. The molecules featuring docking predicted binding affinity better than that of noscapine were then subjected to MTT assay against MCF7 cell line. The obtained results disclosed that all the selected triazole derivatives exhibited a remarkably lower cell viability compared to noscapine in the range of 20 μM in 48 h. In an attempt to correlate the biological activity with the ability to bind tubulin, the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) assay was employed. Compounds 8a, 8h, 9c, 9f and 9j were able to bind tubulin with affinity constant values in the nanomolar range and higher if compared to noscapine. Integrating computational predictions and experimental evaluation, two promising compounds (8h and 9c) were identified, whose relevant cytotoxicity was supposed to be correlated with tubulin binding affinity. These findings shed lights onto structural modifications of noscapine toward the identification of more potent cytotoxic agents targeting tubulin
