Electronic device comprising a memory accessible via a JTAG interface, and corresponding method of accessing a memory

    No full text
An electronic device includes a processing unit with a memory, a JTAG interface with test-data-input and testmode-select lines coupled to the processing unit, a bridge circuit, and a multiplexer circuit. The bridge circuit includes a serial communication interface receiving a serial data input signal which conveys an input serial data frame. The bridge circuit includes a serial-to-parallel converter circuit block receiving the input serial data frame, processing the input serial data frame to read first and second subsets of input binary values therefrom, and transmitting the first subset via a first output signal and the second subset via a second output signal. The multiplexer circuit selectively propagates a received test-data-input signal or the first output signal to the test data input line, and selectively propagates a testmode-select signal or the second output signal to the test mode select line of the JTAG interface

A Florentine family in crisis: the Strozzi in the fifteenth century.

    No full text
PhDIn 1434 the Strozzi lineage had held a leading position in Florentine society and government for at least one hundred and fifty years, and was one of the largest and wealthiest of the city's patrician lineages. The records of the catasto of 1427 and of the scrutiny of 1433 are used to give a profile of the dominant social, economic and political position of the Strozzi before the advent of Medicean dominance. Their record of electoral success, and the political and cultural leadership of influential and respected men such as Palla di Nofri and Matteo di Simone, with other factors, put the Strozzi amongst the greatest enemies of the victorious Medicean regime of late 1434. The effects of political opposition and exile on the lineage are examined both directly, through records of office-holding, and indirectly through such indicators as marriage alliances and household wealth. The two most prominent lines of the Strozzi were exiled after 1434. Palla di Nofri's life and preoccupations in his Paduan exile are examined, together with the lives of his sons; none of these Strozzi ever returned to Florence, pursued as they were by the enmity of the Medicean regime. The very different careers of Filippo di Matteo and his brother Lorenzo are also examined: how they succeeded in founding a lucrative bank in Naples, and in returning to Florence to 'rebuild' (rifare) the position of the Strozzi lineage there. The final decades of the century saw the Strozzi in an economically more secure position, due substantially to the efforts of Filippo. Except for a very small number of its members admitted into the regime, most of the lineage is here shown to have remained excluded from significant political office until after the fall of the Medici regime in 1494

NN2FPGA: Optimizing CNN Inference on FPGAs With Binary Integer Programming

    No full text
Skip connections have emerged as a key component of modern convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for computer vision tasks, allowing for the creation of more accurate and deeper models by addressing the vanishing gradient problem. However, the existing implementations of field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based accelerators for ResNets and MobileNetV2 often experience decreased performance and increased computational latency due to the implementation of skip blocks. This paper presents a novel framework for developing deep learning models on FPGAs that focuses on skip connections, with a unique approach to reduce buffering overhead. This results in a more efficient utilization of resources in the implementation of the skip layer. The nn2fpga compiler follows a thorough set of high-level synthesis (HLS) design principles and optimization strategies, exploiting in novel ways standard techniques to effectively map skip connection-based networks into static dataflow accelerators. To maximize throughput and efficiently use the available resources, our compiler employs a fast and effective design space exploration method based on a binary integer programming model which accurately assigns FPGA resources to the network layers, to maximize global throughput under resource constraints and then minimize resources for the achieved maximum throughput. Experimental results on the CIFAR-10 and ImageNet datasets demonstrate substantial gains in throughput (3× to 7× on past HLS-based work) for ResNet8, ResNet20, and MobileNetV2 models deployed on various Xilinx FPGA boards. Notably, MobileNetV2 deployed on the ZCU102 achieves a throughput of 2115 FPS, representing even a 10% speedup over a state-of-the-art highly optimized manual RTL implementation, showing that HLS can actually improve over manual design, thanks to the faster exploration of the design space

LESS: Low-Power Energy-Efficient Subgraph Isomorphism on FPGA

    No full text
Low-power energy-efflcient subgraph isomorphism (LESS) is an open-source field-programmable gate array-only low-memory sub graph matching solver designed for energy efficiency. Depending on the input datagraph, the energy consumption of LESS, averaged on different diverse queries, is up to 38x and 93x lower than CPU and GPU solvers respectively

A short filmic example from the AMC's award-winning series Mad Men in which the sensorial and emotional relationship between the spectator and a moving body, i.e., a dancing body, is explicitly put into play. The essay wants to deal with the so called naturalization of phenomenology and of the living body, trained by the cognitive sciences reading the visuality. The author shows the relationship between the so called ‘embodied Simulation’ and a symbolic and iconographic deep memory of the pictures, and he gives an in-depth attention to the polarity between projections and introjections, activity and passivity of the spectator’s body during the empathic experience of the moving pictures

    Multiple political geographies

This chapter delves into the multifaceted realm of political geography within the context of the journal Political Geography. The author, who has held various editorial positions within the journal, navigates the intricate terrain of diversity and inclusion, exploring the challenges posed by linguistic and cultural biases inherent in academic publishing. The chapter critically examines efforts to mitigate barriers and broaden the scope of political geography, questioning the adequacy of current approaches. Through a reflective analysis, the author elucidates the complex dynamics of political geography as a subdiscipline, shedding light on both the impediments and possibilities it offers to researchers and students
