Inclusive searches for squarks and gluinos with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
Despite the absence of experimental evidence, weak scale supersymmetry remains one of the best motivated and studied Standard Model extensions. This talk summarises recent ATLAS results on inclusive searches for promptly decaying supersymmetric squarks and gluinos in events containing jets, missing transverse momentum with and without light leptons. The results presented utilise 20/fb of 8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, and prospects for 13 TeV Run-2 data are also included. First results with run2 data will be included if availabl

Extended Delta-map: a map-based foreground removal method for CMB polarization observations

    No full text
In order to extract information about inflationary gravitational waves using BB-mode patterns of cosmic microwave polarization anisotropy, we need to remove the foreground radiation from the Milky Way. In our previous delta-map method for foreground removal, the number of observation bands was limited to the number of parameters of the assumed foreground model, and therefore it was difficult to improve the sensitivity by increasing the number of observation bands. Here, we extend the previous method so that it can be adapted to an arbitrary number of observation bands. Using parametric likelihood and realistic foreground and CMB simulations, we show that our method can increase the sensitivity to the tensor-to-scalar ratio rr without inducing any significant bias.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, matches version published in PTE

Generalized dual expression for set relations by means of sublinear scalarization functions (Study on Nonlinear Analysis and Convex Analysis)

    No full text
In the literature, characterization for set relations are of various application to optimality conditions of set optimization problems, variational principles for set-valued maps, theorems of the alternative, certain robustness of vector optimization problems, and so on. In this paper, the author presents properties of scalarization functions as dual expression of set relations. Comparing to existing results, one can confirm their uniqueness in their relaxed conditions. Also, we show our results suggest some robust positive semi-definite optimization problems

    ネズミマラリア原虫Plasmodium yoeliiのErythrocyte Binding-Likeタンパク質は赤血球侵入過程における不可逆的結合形成に重要である

    No full text
Plasmodium malaria parasites multiply within erythrocytes and possess a repertoire of proteins whose function is to recognize and invade these vertebrate host cells. One such protein involved in erythrocyte invasion is the micronemal protein, Erythrocyte Binding-Like (EBL), which has been studied as a potential target of vaccine development in Plasmodium vivax (PvDBP) and Plasmodium falciparum (EBA-175). In the rodent malaria parasite model Plasmodium yoelii, specific substitutions in the EBL regions responsible for intracellular trafficking (17XL parasite line) or receptor recognition (17X1.1pp. parasite line), paradoxically increase invasion ability and virulence rather than abolish EBL function. Attempts to disrupt the ebl gene locus in the 17XL and 17XNL lines were unsuccessful, suggesting EBL essentiality. To understand the mechanisms behind these potentially conflicting outcomes, we generated 17XL-based transfectants in which ebl expression is suppressed with anhydrotetracycline (ATc) and investigated merozoite behavior during erythrocyte invasion. In the absence of ATc, EBL was secreted to the merozoite surface, whereas following ATc administration parasitemia was negligible in vivo. Merozoites lacking EBL were unable to invade erythrocytes in vitro, indicating that EBL has a critical role for erythrocyte invasion. Quantitative time-lapse imaging revealed that with ATc administration a significant number of merozoites were detached from the erythrocyte after the erythrocyte deformation event and no echinocytosis was observed, indicating that EBL is required for merozoites to establish an irreversible connection with erythrocytes during invasion.長崎大学学位論文 学位記番号:博(医歯薬)甲第1093号 学位授与年月日:平成30年9月5日Author: Yuto Kegawa, Masahito Asada, Takahiro Ishizaki, Kazuhide Yahata, Osamu KanekoCitation: Parasitology International, 67(6), pp.706-714; 201

The possibility of holistic safety education in Japan: From the perspective of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

    No full text
AbstractThis paper studies modes of safety education, that is, education required for the development of a safe and secure society (i.e., a resilient and sustainable society), particularly in the context of Japan. In addition, this paper aims to verify what kind of safety education should be provided through the new educational concept of “Education for Sustainable Development” (ESD). In recent years, Japan has suffered a number of serious incidents in school zones, cases of children being kidnapped or killed, as well as the damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake & Tsunami of March 11, 2011, and other natural disasters. Consequently, the safety and security of children has become the responsibility of society as a whole, not just of educators. Based on this awareness, this paper will discuss a new mode of safety education that can contribute to the design of mobility for the coming age. There are two main findings from this study. First, the paper identifies the need to provide multiple software support for existing safety education. Few safety education programs have sufficiently incorporated the perspective of understanding safety in a comprehensive manner, instead focusing on a particular area of traffic, disasters, or daily life. In light of this issue, this paper recognizes the importance of incorporating the perspective of problem-solving and participation-oriented ESD into a holistic understanding of safety education. Second, awareness surveys conducted by the author on parents and teachers revealed that the respondents demonstrated a high interest traffic safety relative to other safety education areas. It would thus appear to be possible to make “traffic” the starting point for safety education and then broaden the scope to daily life and disasters. The survey also clarified that related parties considered raising children's awareness to be the most important aspect in safety education. This paper concludes that it is imperative to make continued research efforts to present a new mode of safety education, an initiative that represents one of the important efforts in designing mobility for the future

Development of Method to Estimate Enclosure Index in Urban Areas using Airborne LiDAR

都市の景観を管理する上では景観の統一性・連続性が重要であるが,これらを分析するには広範囲における景観の把握が必要である.航空機LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging)は,広範囲の3次元の座標を高速に取得することができる.本研究では航空機LiDARで計測したDSM(Digital SurfaceModel),DTM(Digital Terrain Model)のデータを用いて,広範囲における任意の地点での囲繞度を推定する手法を提案する.囲繞度は,視野の立体角に対する地物の立体角の占める割合として定義した.京都市東山区を対象に提案手法を適用した結果,やや過小評価気味ではあったが,囲繞度を誤差約3%で推定することができた.This paper proposes a methodology to estimate an "enclosure index" in urban areas using airborne LiDAR. The index is defined as a ratio of occluded area to whole of area in azimuth angle-elevation angle space. The index can be applied to assess local landscape, and it is expected to estimate it in a wide area at low cost. The author examined the methodology to estimate it using airborne LiDAR data measured in last-pulse mode. The estimated index map was validated with the ground truth data, and the error was acceptable, approximately 3%. Even though the last-pulse mode data may underestimate actual digital surface model (DSM), it was found that the proposed methodology is effective to estimate the index in a wide area at low cost

Non-archimedean SYZ fibrations via tropical contractions

    No full text
We consider a toric degeneration of Calabi--Yau complete intersections of Batyrev--Borisov in the Gross--Siebert program. The author showed in his previous work that there exists an integral affine contraction map called a tropical contraction, from the tropical variety obtained as its tropicalization to the dual intersection complex of the toric degeneration. In this article, we prove that the dual intersection complex is isomorphic to the essential skeleton of the Berkovich analytification as piecewise integral affine manifolds, and the composition of the tropicalization map and the tropical contraction is an affinoid torus fibration with a discriminant of codimension 22, which induces the same integral affine structure as the one coming from the toric degeneration. This is a generalization of the earlier work by Pille-Schneider for a specific degeneration of Calabi--Yau hypersurfaces in projective spaces.Comment: 33 page
