Britishness e la composita natura del luogo: musica e identità nazionale in Gran Bretagna tra locale e globale
No full textIl contesto socio-culturale del vecchio continente racconta di migrazioni e colonizzazioni, deportazioni e diaspore, partenze e ritorni che si intrecciano in una rete di mobilità transnazionale di cui la Gran Bretagna è un nodo centrale.
Sin dalla prima metà del XX secolo il tessuto sociale britannico è stato interessato dalle numerose ondate migratorie che hanno portato con sé, dalle periferie dell ex-impero, una preziosa, quanto contestata, dote culturale, riconfigurando per sempre i tratti di un intera nazione. La presenza di culture diasporiche sul territorio britannico, con il loro legame alla terra di origine mantenuto attraverso scambi materiali e simbolici, e insieme il loro radicamento, generazione dopo generazione, impone una riflessione nuova sul concetto di Britishness. L analisi del consumo culturale, in particolare dei paradigmi di fruizione di popular music, costituisce il punto di partenza per un indagine che intende, in questo articolo, rendere conto del nuovo stato della nazione britannica.
Quale tipo di produzione/fruizione musicale può essere considerata British, e quali tratti, quali sonorità, quali poetiche la caratterizzano? Di quale cultura britannica è espressione? Quale è il ruolo delle tradizioni musicali delle minoranze etniche nella ridefinizione delle caratteristiche della produzione musicale britannica, e quale Britishness rappresentano? Quale è il ruolo della popular music nell articolazione del sentimento di appartenenza di coloro che la fruiscono?
Per cercare di dare una risposta a queste domande analizzeremo le relazioni tra i fruitori e i contesti locali: l indagine sarà definita dal tentativo di focalizzare la natura complessa e contrastata del rapporto tra dimensioni locali e tensioni globalizzanti. Il tentativo è quello di mantenere una prospettiva bifocale capace di descrivere i contesti locali come campi di forza in cui si manifestano tendenze che, da una parte, definiscono il carattere di una specifica realtà situata, e, parallelamente, ne vengono influenzate. All interno di un tale scenario, la popular music, nelle sue molteplici declinazioni di genere, offre uno strumento irrinunciabile, sia a livello della produzione, sia a livello del consumo, per l articolazione di questioni legate all identità etnica, al sentimento di appartenenza locale, alla Britishness.

No full textPer secoli la dimensione aurale del soggetto è stata trascurata, quasi annullata dalla portata epistemologica ed ontologica del regime scopico. Perchè l ipertrofia dell Occhio sembra aver condannato l Orecchio all atrofia? Quale è il ruolo del suono nella cultura occidentale? E possibile un analisi sociologica della dimensione aurale?
Sound Matters prende in esame queste domande rilevando come il suono, articolato e razionalizzato nell espressione musicale, costituisca uno strumento indispensabile per decifrare i noisy soundscapes della contemporaneità.
Il lettore viene guidato in un percorso teorico dedicato all approfondimento della dimensione aurale ed alla valorizzazione dell ascolto, per poi soffermarsi sul contributo di autori come Simmel, Weber e Adorno che hanno utilizzato il materiale musicale al fine di comprendere i mutamenti culturali e sociali del proprio tempo.
Tale prospettiva offre una sintesi dei contributi che pongono le basi all istituzionalizzazione di un approccio al materiale musicale e sonoro il sound matter che ne legittima la presenza ed il ruolo nel panorama più ampio delle scienze sociali e nell analisi della cultura contemporanea

No full textI flussi di materiale simbolico che popolano gli orizzonti culturali della contemporaneità configurano scambi costanti e continui che trascendono i confini nazionali. Il ruolo dei mass media è centrale nella definizione dell articolazione tra la dimensione locale e quella globale, e contribuisce alla ridefinizione delle coordinate dell esperienza individuale.
In questo senso la popular music offre una piattaforma di analisi che permette di intercettare questi flussi sotto forma di nuove sonorità, che, nel caso preso in esame in questo articolo, raccontano la vicenda dei figli della diaspora originata nel subcontinente asiatico.
Quale è il ruolo della musica, in particolare del rap, nell esperienza dei giovani musulmani di origine asiatica che vivono nelle periferie della ex-capitale dell impero coloniale? Quali sono le poetiche che definiscono i paradigmi di produzione e di fruizione di un sottogenere contestato come l Islamic conscious rap? Quali le politiche ad esso connesse? Il presente articolo cerca di prestare ascolto ad una forma di comunicazione e rappresentazione culturale sincretica e transdiasporica come il rap islamico per analizzare le nuove configurazioni identitarie BrAsian della Gran Bretagna contemporanea, formazioni che emergono dalla vicenda storica coloniale e diasporica
The human embryo, subjectivity and legal capacity. Notes in the light of art. 1 of the Italian law on "medically assisted procreation".

This paper aims to examine the legal status of the human embryo taking into consideration Article 1 of the Italian law on medically assisted procreation, which protects the human embryo, which is recognised as an individual holding the same rights as already born children. The progressive increase in legal decisions regarding reproductive technologies requires a re-examination of the traditional legal categories of “subjectivity” and legal capacity, and a deeper understanding of the status of the human embryo as a subject, or individual. Materials and methods. The following sources were searched: Institutional websites, Research Centre for Social Investments reports, updated jurisprudence and Rulings of Italian Constitutional Court and European Court of Human Rights. In addition, also the following databases were searched: PubMed and Scopus, using the following keywords: medically assisted procreation (MAP) and embryo. Results. The authors believe that the best orientation is the modern principle of equality (non-discrimination); according to them, the need to protect unborn life requires therefore the consideration of interests which can no longer be confined to the solely patrimonial ones held by the embryo. The paper draws attention to a series of non-patrimonial interests, for whose protection the legal expert has to adopt innovative safeguarding techniques. The vulnerability of insecure minds: The mediating role of mentalization in the relationship between attachment styles and psychopathology
No full textInsecure attachment is linked to mentalizing difficulties and psychopathology. The current study aimed to examine if failures in mentalization, as observed in the form of uncertainty about mental states, mediated the relationship between attachment styles and global psychopathology in a group of 812 adults (66.5% females) from the community. Participants completed measures on attachment styles, uncertainty about mental states, and clinical symptoms. The authors found that uncertainty about mental states was a partial mediator of the associations between attachment styles and psychopathology. Furthermore, the findings supported the role of secure attachment in protecting from mentalization failures and psychopathology; on the contrary, increased scores on attachment styles involving a negative view of the self (preoccupied and fearful attachment styles) predicted high levels of uncertainty about mental states and psychopathology. Accordingly, clinicians may wish to promote mentalizing abilities in individuals who display a negative view of the self embedded in their attachment styles

Assessment of haematopoietic progenitor cell counting with the Sysmex® XN-1000 to guide timing of apheresis of peripheral blood stem cells.
No full textBACKGROUND: Successful peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection depends on optimal timing of apheresis, as usually determined by flow cytometry CD34-positive (+) cell count in peripheral blood (PB). Since this method is costly and labour-intensive, we evaluated the use of the Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell count programme on a Sysmex® XN haematologic analyser (XN-HPC) as a rapid and inexpensive alternative for predicting CD34+ cell count in PB samples. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Haematopoietic progenitor cell and CD34+ cell counts were compared using 273 PB samples collected from 78 healthy donors and 72 patients who underwent PBSC transplantation. We assessed the effectiveness of the XN-HPC in safely predicting pre-harvest CD34+ counts. The most efficient cut-off values of XN-HPC were identified. We also evaluated the imprecision (coefficient of variation, CV) and functional sensitivity. RESULTS: Imprecision of the XN-HPC count was <6.3% on daily measurement of three levels of quality control material. Functional sensitivity was 8.9×106/L. A cut-off value of ≥62×106/L XN-HPC for multiple myeloma (MM) patients and ≥30×106/L for all other subjects had both 100% specificity and 100% positive predictive value for identifying samples with CD34+ cells ≥20×106/L. An XN-HPC threshold of <13×106/L identified pre-harvest CD34+ cell count <10×106/L with 100% sensitivity and 100% negative predictive value. DISCUSSION: The XN-HPC is a fast, easy and inexpensive test that can safely improve apheresis workflow thus possibly replacing other more expensive CD34 counts currently performed and promoting optimal timing of PBSC collection
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
