Interstate War Data Version 1.2
This is Interstate War Data version 1.2. It is a list of all interstate wars from 1816-2019 with at least 500 battle dead. The attached files include an excel file with the data and a PDF file that describes the changes in the data over version 1.1 Documentation on versions 1.0 and 1.1 can be found at https://danreiteremory.com/datasets/. Morality in Discourse
Questions of morality are not new in research on language and social interaction, but have received increasing attention as part of the broader moral turn in the humanities and social sciences. The aim of this chapter is to provide an introduction to research on how morality unfolds and gets practically done in discourse, and the implications of this for the empirical analysis and theorization of morality. After providing a brief overview of the moral turn in studies of discourse and interaction, the chapter highlights some of the key findings that have emerged from these various strands of research. It then outlines some of the key conceptual foundations for the study of morality in discourse. This is followed by an overview of the four parts of this volume and each of the contributions therein, in which attention is drawn to the ways in which morality is approached in these essays
Solving OLG Models with Many Cohorts, Asset Choice and Large Shocks
The paper presents a computationally efficient method to solve overlapping generations models with asset choice. The method is used to study an OLG economy with many cohorts, up to 3 different assets, stochastic volatility, short-sale constraints, and subject to rather large technology shocks.
On the methodological side, the main findings are that global projection methods with polynomial approximations of degree 3 are sufficient to provide a very precise solution, even in the case of large shocks. Globally linear approximations, in contrast to local linear approximations, are sufficient to capture the most important financial statistics, including not only the average risk premium, but also the variation of the risk premium over the cycle. However, global linear approximations are not sufficient to reliably pin down asset choices.
With a risk aversion parameter of only 4, the model generates a price of risk, measured as the Sharpe ratio, that is almost half of what it is for US stocks. However, the asset price fluctuations and the equity premium are much smaller than in US data
