    No full text
WOS: 000264578100002The genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of extracts of Urginea maritima L., belonging to the family Liliaceae, were investigated with Allium test which is a plant test method. The bulbs of Allium cepa were treated with 2%, 4%, 6% of U. maritima aqueous extracts and a 20 ml/l solution of Vydate which is a chemical pesticide. Meristem cells of A. cepa root tip were prepared according to Feulgen squash procedure after stained with feulgene to identify the chromosomal aberrations (breaks, fragments, sticky). All observed data were compared statistically. As a result, the chromosomal aberrations were increased by the increase of dose and application time in all extracts of U. maritima and Vydate solution and the mitotic index (MI) was significantly reduced. The extracts of U. maritima were less genotoxic and cytotoxic than Vydate. It is stated that the usage of U. maritima extracts will be less harmful than chemical pesticides in plant protection

The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of the aqueous extracts of Euphorbia rigida Bieb. which is a natural pesticide. The comparison was done using the Allium test to the chemical pesticides Elandor (R) and Goldplan (R). According to Allium test results, it had negative impacts on mitosis and showed cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on the existing cells. The lowest level of MI (2.95 %) was observed in the 200 ppm treatment of E. rigida extract. Number of the aberrant cells were 88.1, 84.1 and 82.5 in the treatments with Elandor (R), 50 ppm, E. rigida extract and Goldplan (R) respectively. The highest cytological anomalies were chromosome stickiness, irregular metaphase and anaphase, pole deviations and C-mitosis. According to the present results of this research, we can suggest that the extract obtained from E. rigida plant with water up to 50 ppm can be used as an alternative to chemicals used as biopesticide. Antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties of Euphorbia extracts are well known, so it could mean that they can be used as additives or a disinfectant for inanimate surfaces in the pharmaceutics industry. No matter what purposes the extract of this plant is used, great care should be taken while using it because it can cause damage on cells and chromosomes. Hence, through more detailed and comprehensive studies about its capacity for medical and biopesticide purposes should be investigated

Transition period and subclinical ketosis in dairy cattle: association with milk production, metabolic and reproductive disorders and economic aspects

0000-0002-5242-5671WOS: 000561474500001Many dairy cows experience a high incidence of health problems during the transition period (TP). The TP is an intermediate stage of various digestive, metabolic and reproductive functions which determine the general health status at the time of calving and during the first weeks postpartum. Negative energy balance due to increased energy demand at parturition and significantly reduced dry matter intake relative to demand is an important determinant. Consequently, substantial lipid mobilization from adipose tissue, increased oxidative stress and impaired immunity are associated with higher incidences of periparturient health problems including ketosis or subclinical ketosis (SCK), which have tremendous economic impact on dairy productivity. SCK is defined as the presence of increased blood ketone bodies (BHBA: betahydroxybutyric acid, acetone, acetoacetic acid) without clinical ketosis signs. Varying blood and milk cut-off values have been reported for BHBA concentrations defining SCK, but the most commonly accepted values are >= 1.2 mmol/L and >= 200 mu mol/L respectively. This underestimated disease can impact dairy cow productivity through decreased milk production in the order of roughly 300 kg/lactation and increases the risk of metabolic and reproductive diseases such as displaced abomasum, retained placenta, metritis, mastitis, prolong oestrus interval and reduces conception rates. SCK also referred to as 'profit robber or killer' can cause productivity and economic losses of between $200-290 per dairy cow annually. Options for the control and prevention of SCK include controlled-release monensin capsules, and the injectable combination butaphosphan and cyanocobalamin and oral propylene glycol. SCK is easy to detect in early lactation using cow-side validated BHBA analysers with high specificity and sensitivity

Multi-channel Electroencephalogram (EEG) based emotion recognition is focused on several analysis of frequency bands of the acquired signals. In this paper, spectral properties appeared on five EEG bands (delta\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}δ\delta \end{document}, theta\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}θ\theta \end{document}, alpha\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}α\alpha \end{document}, beta\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}β\beta \end{document}, gamma\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}γ\gamma \end{document}) and gated transformer network (GTN) based emotion recognition using EEG signal are proposed. Spectral energies and differential entropies of 62-channel signals are converted to 3D (sequence-channel-trial) form to feed the GTN. The GTN with enhanced gated two tower based transformer architecture is fed by 3D sequences extracted from SEED and SEED-IV emotional datasets. 15 participants' states in session 1-3 are evaluated using the proposed GTN based sequence classification, and the results are repeated by 3x\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}3×3\small \times \end{document} shuffling. Totally, 135 times training and testing are performed on each dataset, and the results are presented. The proposed GTN model achieves mean accuracy rates of 98.82% on the SEED dataset and 96.77% on the SEED-IV dataset for three and four emotional state recognition tasks, respectively. The proposed emotion recognition model can be employed as a promising approach for EEG emotion recognition
