Aufmerksamkeit messen: von der Reaktionszeit zu Modellen der visuellen Aufmerksamkeit

Models of visual attention have been widely proposed over the last two decades. Researchers in different disciplines, such as psychology and engineering, are interested in these models in order to understand human perceptual mechanisms and/or build algorithms which mimic the attentional processes for some applications (e.g. robotics). In this dissertation I modeled the effect of learning experiences on attentional guidance. The presented model is an algorithmic-level model which links display inputs to the participants' reaction times. This dissertation consists of three studies. In the first study the role of selection history -as the effect of learning from the practice phase of the experiment on the main phase- is investigated. I also tested dimension-level (e.g. color and shape) and feature-level (e.g. blue and red) selection histories. The results showed the version of the model which includes selection history (on feature-level), beside stimulus-driven (bottom-up) and goal-driven (top-down) control mechanisms, is best suited for a quantitative description of the participants' reaction times. In the second study, I investigated the importance of intertrial priming -the effect of a previous trial on the current one- as well as the importance of each feature map (color, shape or orientation) in the model predictions. It was shown that by including the effect of intertrial priming a better description of the behavioral database can be achieved. Additionally, excluding any of the feature maps deteriorates the model predictions. In the third study, I proposed a model to decompose reaction times -into decision and sensorimotor components- as a prerequisite of RT modeling. This study will help us introduce more accurate attention models. Furthermore, it can support cognitive studies to better investigate the effect of certain factors (e.g. age and mental disorders) on motor system vs. decision making. The proposed attention model (in the first and the second study) is one of the first models that includes the selection history effect on guiding attention. This model can capture the between-group differences where each group of participants had a different learning experience. The model considers total reaction times of each participant. But attention can influence reaction times by affecting different cognitive processes. The third study introduces a method which helps us look at each process (and its relevant reaction time component) independently

The article is based on the corpus consisting of lexemes and idioms which are formally or semantically related to verbs of speaking in the Croatian-Polish Dictionary by Milan Moguš and Neda Pintarić. Special attention is paid to lexemes denoting speaking only in the secondary, metaphorical meaning (e.g. kablować, kadzić). The author also analyzes the ways in which the verbs 'mowić' and 'gadać' have been presented in the dictionary, which includes a whole range of related idioms along with their main lexical meaning. Special emphasis is placed on a group of idioms which are not explicitly linked to verbs of speaking, but refer to this activity due to metaphorical meanings of other verbs.U članku se na primjerima glagola govorenja, zabilježenima u poljsko-hrvatskome rječniku (PHR), pokazuje na koji se način rabi pragmatični kvalifikator s obzirom na izražavanje različitih emocionalnih vrijednosti tih glagola i njihovih frazeologizama. Izdvajaju se tako izravni i preneseni leksemi glagola govorenja te izravni i preneseni frazeologizmi sa značenjem radnje govorenja

The aim of this study was to determine nurses’ readiness to utilize research needed for applying evidence-based practice. Materials and methodsIn this descriptive study, 375 nurses in all teaching hospitals affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences were selected by stratified random sampling method. A 4-part questionnaire with open and close-ended questions including professional profile, research activities, research skills and access to research resources was used foe data collection. Content as well as face validities and Cronbach's α for reliability (0.82) were identified. Findings 85.9% of nurses had weak readiness in research utilization. Both research activities and skills were also low (71.4% and 82.7% respectively). 44% of nurses had insufficient access to research resources. A significant relationship was found between nurses' educational level, participation in research activities as well as English language skills and their readiness in research utilization. ConclusionLack of skills and inaccessibility to research findings lead to weak readiness for research utilization. With respect to the importance of utilizing research findings, organizational and administrative support, continuing education programs, well-defined processes and pathways to facilitate research utilization need to be provided for nurses. Keywords: Research utilization, Evidence-based practice, Nurses. *Corresponding Author: Neda Mehrdad. Reflexe příběhu Neda Kellyho v umělecké a memoárové literatuře

NÁZEV: Reflexe postavy Neda Kellyho v umělecké a memoárové literatuře AUTOR: Adam Prentis KATEDRA: Katedra anglického jazyka a literatury VEDOUCÍ PRÁCE: PhDr. Petr Chalupský, Ph.D. ABSTRAKT: Práce se zabývá analýzou různých osobnostních aspektů Neda Kellyho, hlavní postavy knihy Petera Careyho True History of the Kelly Gang (Pravdivý příběh Kellyho party; 2000). I když je Ned Kelly historickou postavou, je k němu přistupováno jako k fiktivní postavě, se zaměřením na jeho australskou národnostní, mýtickou a mužskou symboličnost a na literární způsoby, kterými je těchto obrazů docíleno. Jednotlivé aspekty jsou vztaženy do vývojového kontextu skrze porovnání se staršími vyobrazeními této postavy - v knize Australian Son (1948) od Maxe Browna a The Complete Inner History of the Kelly Gang and their Pursuers (1929) od J. J. Kenneallyho - všechny tři texty zaujímají kladné stanovisko k Nedu Kellym. Je vysledován posun z konfrontační a idealisující obhajoby historické osoby k spíše mýtickému oslavování nedokonalého...TITLE: The Fictional Man: Ned Kelly in Peter Carey's True History of the Kelly Gang in Comparison with Older Portrayals AUTHOR: Adam Prentis DEPARTMENT: Department of English Language and Literature SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Petr Chalupský, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The thesis concerns itself with the analysis of various personality aspects of the protagonist of Peter Carey's True History of the Kelly Gang (2000) - Ned Kelly. Albeit a historical figure, Ned Kelly is approached as a fictional character with focus placed on his symbolic status of Australian nationality, myth and manhood, and on the literary means that point to this. The separate aspects are placed in an evolutionary context through comparisons with older portrayals of the same character - in Max Brown's Australian Son (1948) and J. J. Kenneally's The Complete Inner History of the Kelly Gang and their Pursuers (1929), all of which use a heroising approach to the man. The work shows that Ned Kelly may be perceived in many complex ways, with further possibilities for analysis suggested. Comparing the three books, it is found that although considerable unifying tendencies and moments exist, some aspects have a significant difference in focus or emphasis. A shift is noted from a confrontational idealising defence of what is perceived as a historical person to a...Katedra anglického jazyka a literaturyFaculty of EducationPedagogická fakult

Artificial neural networks for neutron/? discrimination in the neutron detectors of NEDA

    Get PDF
Three different Artificial Neural Network architectures have been applied to perform neutron/gamma discrimination in NEDA based on waveform and time-of-flight information. Using the coincident gamma-rays from AGATA, we have been able to measure and compare on real data the performances of the Artificial Neural Networks as classifiers. While the general performances are quite similar for the data set we used, differences, in particular related to the computing times, have been highlighted. One of the Artificial Neural Network architecture has also been found more robust to time misalignment of the waveforms. Such a feature is of great interest for online processing of waveforms.National Science Centre, Poland (NCN) [2017/25/B/ST2/01569]; STFC [ST/P003885/1, ST/L005727/1] Funding Source: UKRIOne of the author acknowledges support of the National Science Centre, Poland (NCN) (grant no. 2017/25/B/ST2/01569)

Are Virtual Assistants Effective in Generating Customer-Firm Engagement? The Role of Social Media as a Component of Marketing Strategies.

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT This paper examines the effects of utilizing voice assistants in addition to integrating social media in firms’ communication strategies. Many consumers are increasingly using voice assistants to communicate with companies. At the same time, the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the way customers are interacting with companies due to social distancing, stay-at-home orders, and mental overload during this unprecedented time. Firms that provide consumers with easier ways of communication, such as utilizing a voice assistant in customer service, could benefit from higher consumer engagement. The cognitive load theory is proposed to explore its applicability in assessing whether less mental effort in consumer-firm communications, resulting in consumers being more inclined to engage with companies. Three propositions are theorized and should be tested in future research. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Neda Mossaei is a PhD Candidate at the University of South Alabama.
