Analysis of the microphysical properties of snowfall using scanning polarimetric and vertically pointing multi-frequency Doppler radars
Radar dual-wavelength ratio (DWR) measurements from the Stony Brook Radar Observatory Ka-band scanning polarimetric radar (KASPR, 35 GHz), a W-band profiling radar (94 GHz), and a next-generation K-band (24 GHz) micro rain radar (MRRPro) were exploited for ice particle identification using triple-frequency approaches. The results indicated that two of the radar frequencies (K and Ka band) are not sufficiently separated; thus, the triple-frequency radar approaches had limited success. On the other hand, a joint analysis of DWR, mean Doppler velocity (MDV), and polarimetric radar variables indicated potential in identifying ice particle types and distinguishing among different ice growth processes and even in revealing additional microphysical details.
We investigated all DWR pairs in conjunction with MDV from the KASPR profiling measurements and differential reflectivity (ZDR) and specific differential phase (KDP) from the KASPR quasi-vertical profiles. The DWR-versus-MDV diagrams coupled with the polarimetric observables exhibited distinct separations of particle populations attributed to different rime degrees and particle growth processes. In fallstreaks, the 35–94 GHz DWR pair increased with the magnitude of MDV corresponding to the scattering calculations for aggregates with lower degrees of riming. The DWR values further increased at lower altitudes while ZDR slightly decreased, indicating further aggregation. Particle populations with higher rime degrees had a similar increase in DWR but a 1–1.5 m s−1 larger magnitude of MDV and rapid decreases in KDP and ZDR. The analysis also depicted the early stage of riming where ZDR increased with the MDV magnitude collocated with small increases in DWR. This approach will improve quantitative estimations of snow amount and microphysical quantities such as rime mass fraction. The study suggests that triple-frequency measurements are not always necessary for in-depth ice microphysical studies and that dual-frequency polarimetric and Doppler measurements can successfully be used to gain insights into ice hydrometeor microphysics

je namenjeno analizi Afrahatovega Pokaza o vojnah kot primera sirske politične teologije.
V tretjem poglavju članka avtor oriše osnovne teze Legende o Aleksandru, čemur doda tudi
prevode najpomembnejših odlomkov tega spisa. V zadnjem, četrtem poglavju avtor poda
komentar k Legendi o Aleksandru in obravnava vprašanje datacije, temeljnih tez ter avtorstva
Legende o Aleksandru. V zaključku je izpostavljena pomembnost spisa za apokaliptično
literaturo tako v krščanskem kot v islamskem svetu.The article introduces the Syriac Alexander Legend, a text that was written in the
context of the Byzantine imperial propaganda and aimed to present the Byzantine Empire
as the fourth empire from Daniel’s prophecy on the four kingdoms. In the first chapter, the
author analyzes the prophecy on the succession of the four kingdoms contained in the Book
of Daniel. The second chapter is dedicated to the analysis of Aphrahat’s Demonstration
on Wars, which is presented as an example of Syriac political theology. In the third chapter,
the author sketches the story line of the Alexander legend and offers a Slovenian translation
of the selected passages of the Alexander Legend. In the fourth chapter, a short commentary
on the Alexander legend is provided. The commentary addresses the origins, basic theological
concepts, and authorship of the Alexander legend. In the conclusion of the paper, the author
highlights the importance of the Alexander Legend for the subsequent apocalyptic literature
in the Christian as well as in the Islamic world

Alexander v. Sandoval:A Setback for Civil Rights
This article confronts the serious implications of a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Alexander v. Sandoval, which eliminated an important legal avenue for civil rights plaintiffs. For over 35 years, individuals have been allowed to bring lawsuits directly challenging violations of rights set forth in the federal regulations implementing Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Because these actions could be grounded in proof of disparate impact, rather than discriminatory intent, they allowed for some claims that could not go forward under other legal authorities, such as the Fourteenth Amendment. While the author concludes by identifying key remaining options, he highlights the real damage done by this decision

Alexander the Great: A Historiography of Power
This thesis tackles a central question in the historiography of Alexander the Great: why has the scholarship about him changed so wildly over the centuries? The answer put forward in this thesis is that definitions of power are the driving agent behind the ever-changing nature of Alexander scholarship. Over time and across cultures, the "correct" use of power has shifted dramatically, and the way Alexander has been written about has shifted accordingly. This thesis, then, analyzes sixteen authors, spanning centuries of scholarship, and traces how the authors' contexts may have influenced their view of power and how, in turn, that view may have influenced their accounts of Alexander's life. The thesis begins by exploring the issues with the source material about Alexander the Great and what scholars know about the lost, primary sources. The first chapter discusses the authors of the five ancient extant written accounts of Alexander: Diodorus Siculus, Quintus Curtius Rufus, Plutarch, Arrian, and Pompeius Trogus/Justin. The second chapter covers a large expanse of time, beginning with the Alexander Romance as a transmission agent for Alexander scholarship through the Middle Ages. It identifies Machiavelli's Prince as the first place that Alexander reemerges as a historical, not legendary figure. From this point on, it analyzes Samuel Clarke, Charles Rollin, Montesquieu, and Konstantinos Paparrigopoulos. With this last author, the thesis considers how he stands against the near-contemporary example of George Grote. The third chapter moves into the twentieth century. Beginning with William Woodthorpe Tarn and his belief in Alexander's proclamation of the brotherhood of all mankind, the thesis traces the specific impact of events like the First and Second World Wars, the creation of the League of Nations, and the politics of the Soviet Union on Alexander scholarship. This is evident in the scholarship of Ernst Badian, Peter Green, and AB Bosworth, who, in the context of leaders like Hitler and Stalin, see power of the sort that Alexander wields as tyrannical and corrupting. NGL Hammond, the last author featured in this thesis, presents a counterargument against these more negative interpretations, returning to the idealism of Tarn. These sixteen authors, though each existing in very different contexts and representing very different beliefs, all similarly display how definitions of power deeply influence their opinions about Alexander and the purposes they have for creating an account of his life.History, Department ofHonors Colleg
