January media coverage of climate change or global warming in newspapers around the globe increased less than 1% from December 2025. However, coverage in January 2026 was markedly down 42% from January 2025. In January, international wire service coverage dropped 13% from the month earlier (December) and 53% from the previous year (January 2025). Figure 1 shows trends in newspaper media coverage at the global scale – organized into seven geographical regions around the world – across 22 years, from January 2004 through January 2026.</p
