The Problem of Authenticity of Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich’s Eulogy of Dimitrije Ljotić on April 24, 1945
This paper analyzes Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich’s eulogy of Dimitrije Ljotić on April 24, 1945. Furthermore, this paper follows the debate surrounding the speech’s authenticity. It aims not only to provide an outline of existing arguments but also to broaden the discussion using the author`s own research and interpretations
Dr. Dimitrije Radulović, pioneer in the field of sports medicine - life, work, and achievements
In the historiography of Serbian medicine, there is little data on the life and work of Dr. Dimitrije Radulović. He belonged to the first generation of Serbian doctors of the 19th century. He was born in 1814, in Bela Crkva, completed his studies of medicine in Pest, where he received his title Doctor of Medicine. After Pest, he went to Vienna, where he specialized in obstetrics. Among Serbs, he was the author of the first work in the field which we today call sports medicine. With this work, as well as with his later work, he established important foundations of sports medicine among the Serbian people. He was the first to write about the importance of physical exercise and the impact of different sports on the physical development of children, adolescents, and adults, thus contributing to the definition of optimal physical activity and hygienic-dietary regimes. His goal was to preserve and improve health, i.e. to improve the prevention and curative of various diseases and injuries, as well as the rehabilitation of patients
Decoding neighbour volatiles in preparation for future competition and implications for tritrophic interactions
Plant volatile signals can provide important information about the physiological status and genetic identity of the emitter, and nearby plants can use this information to detect competitive neighbours. The novelty of these signals is that plants eavesdropping to volatiles of undamaged neighbours respond with typical competition responses, even before competition takes place, initiating specific growth responses that can increase their competitive capacity. This preparing for future competition mechanism affects the behaviour and abundance of herbivore pests and their natural enemies. Previously, such responses were only known to occur in response to volatiles released by damaged plants. However, volatile interactions occur only in specific combination of species/genotypes, indicating that plants use volatile signals in the detection and adaption only to substantial competitive neighbours. TENIS U CRNOJ GORI S POSEBNIM OSVRTOM NA METODOLOGIJU RADA NA TENISKOM ZIDU
Newest research by the author of this work, Dimitrije Rašović, shows that the founder of tennis in Montenegro is for shure Momčilo Tapavica, winner of the bronze medal at the First Olympic Games in Athenes 1896. All hits against the wall are executed while moving forward making the wall practice the basis of the contemporary offensive tennis play. On the court the player at the other side of the net will be defeated with carefully planned tactics, physical readiness and perfectly executed technique. Every tennis player regardless of rank or experience, should remember that the tennis wall stands somewhere in the corner of the tennis court. That is the strongest tennis “opponent” and an invaluable “instructor” in the creation, training and development of any recreational or professional tennis playe
Influence of new socio-political forces on land use, and on farm and landscape biodiversity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (study areas: Banja Luka and Derventa)
Socio-political forces during and after the war are main external factor affecting land use changes at farm and regional scales that are among the most important drivers of species diversity. The aim of this study is to analyze these changes and their impact on biodiversity in two municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one (Banja Luka) not directly, and other one (Derventa) directly affected by the war. To develop these analysis, statistical data referring to land use situation before and after the war were compared and on site investigation were performed. Interviews to farmer allowed us to investigate the farm organization and structure. Biodiversity at field level was assessed.Land-use changes occurred in both municipalities, mainly in Derventa, due to abandoned land. Present state of biodiversity was assessed indicating direct and indirect negative impact of war on biodiversity loss both at farm and municipality leve
Decoding of individual finger movements from surface EMG signals using vector autoregressive hierarchical hidden Markov models (VARHHMM)
In this paper we present a novel method for predicting individual fingers movements from surface electromyography (EMG). The method is intended for real-time dexterous control of a multifunctional prosthetic hand device. The EMG data was recorded using 16 single-ended channels positioned on the forearm of healthy participants. Synchronously with the EMG recording, the subjects performed consecutive finger movements based on the visual cues. Our algorithm could be described in following steps: extracting mean average value (MAV) of the EMG to be used as the feature for classification, piece-wise linear modeling of EMG feature dynamics, implementation of hierarchical hidden Markov models (HHMM) to capture transitions between linear models, and implementation of Bayesian inference as the classifier. The performance of our classifier was evaluated against commonly used real-time classifiers. The results show that the current algorithm setup classifies EMG data similarly to the best among tested classifiers but with equal or less computational complexity
Perceptions of undergraduate students on ladybugs and social wasps in ecosystems
Beneficial insects play a vital role in agricultural food production by providing essential ecosystem services. While bees and butterflies are widely recognized as key pollinators, the roles of other beneficial insects, such as ladybugs and social wasps, remain underappreciated. In Cambodia, little is known about students' perceptions of these insects and their ecological functions. To address this gap, we conducted an online survey to assess how Cambodian undergraduate students perceive ladybugs and social wasps. Our findings revealed that students rated ladybugs and social wasps as moderately beneficial compared to other study animals. Bees and butterflies were regarded as the most beneficial insects, whereas ants and spiders were considered the least beneficial. Ladybugs were more accepted in shared habitats than social wasps, as students expressed more positive emotions toward ladybugs. This preference is likely due to ladybugs' ecological contributions and appealing appearance. Despite demonstrating a good understanding of social wasps' ecological roles, students were less willing to share habitats with them, primarily due to fear. These results suggest that enhancing public education, promoting citizen science, and increasing media exposure about beneficial insects could improve perceptions and support conservation efforts for these ecologically important species
College Students' Attitudes Toward Music
abstract: The purposes of this study were to examine relationships between three listener characteristics (college major, sex, school music performance experience) and college students' (N = 300) attitudes toward nine types and styles of music. Significant differences (p < .05) were found in favor of music majors (n = 100) toward classical and contemporary classical music, and in favor of non-music majors (n = 200) toward rock music. Females expressed significantly more favorable attitudes than males toward country and spiritual music. Rap received significantly higher ratings from male music majors than from female music majors, and music major and non-music major males gave significantly higher ratings to rock than did their female counterparts. Subjects with high levels of school music ensemble experience exhibited significantly more positive altitudes toward jazz than did those with less experience. In addition, females with high levels of school music performance experience expressed significantly less favorable attitudes toward rap than did less experienced females, and female non-music majors expressed significantly more positive attitudes than male non-music majors toward classical, spiritual, and country music.Research journal published by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA)
Novi prilozi biografiji i opusu Demetra Markovića
In 1990. a monograph exhibition of Demetar Markovic was held in the Art Gallery Osijek, where all his known pictorial material was exhibited. The exhibition was followed by so-called "mini monograph"1, habitual in the publishing activity of the Gallery in Osijek at that time. In that monograph we can find elaboration of the life and work of Markovic, his biography, the list of his exhibitions, and bibliography. But, as it often happens, some new details were revealed after the exhibition, i.e. some new facts from biography, as well as some of the works unknown befo-
re. Thus I will mostly deal with these new moments in this text.
At the beginning, we must correct the name. For a long time the name Dimitrije was used, mostly after the World War II and till 1990.1 must mention that the press in Osijek in the end of the 19th century and in the beginning of 20th century called him Drnitar, which corresponds to the name registered in the Register of births2. So, we have to correct the name into Drnitar or Demetar
The State - Its Meaning and Role in Industrial and Ecological Development
Having in mind a deficiently elaborated role of the contemporary democratic state, in this paper the author attempts to continue the discussion about the democratic stale as an ideal not yet fully realized anywhere.
The author criticizes the inadequate relationship towards the state, developing in Yugoslavia for a long lime, under the wing of Marx’s theory. According to the author those who wish to easily abolish the stale or reduce it to only on only one dimension must be constantly warned of the fact that life in our entire civilization is linked to issues requiring incessant settling. Therefore, the state is not bad in itself but only when acting against public interests. Today, an especially interesting role of the state is in solving environmental problems, which the author stresses as an example of the need to look upon the slate as a regulator of communal affairs. According to the author, the state as regulator of communal affairs has many other tasks to fulfill and should be constantly perfected as well as enabled to carry out those tasks in the best way
