Optimization and Performance Testing of a Hydraulic Coconut Milk Extraction Machine

    No full text
Abstract The study aimed to design, fabricate, and evaluate a hydraulically powered coconut milk extraction machine to address challenges related to labor intensity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in small-scale coconut processing. The machine was developed using locally available materials and technology, focusing on enhancing extraction efficiency, recovery, and capacity while ensuring accessibility for a broader user base, including women and people with disabilities. The research involved a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five different pressure settings (1300 to 1700 psi) to assess the machine's performance. The evaluation parameters included extraction efficiency, recovery, and capacity. Results indicated that the machine achieved peak extraction efficiency of 92.51% and a maximum extraction capacity of 50.98 kg/hr at 1600 psi. However, higher pressures did not significantly impact extraction efficiency and recovery, suggesting that while pressure plays a role, its effect is limited within the tested range. The machine outperformed traditional hydraulic jack-type and screw-type extractors in terms of efficiency, recovery, and capacity. Financial analysis showed that the machine has a low operating cost of Php 144,183.60 per year, with an annual revenue of Php 403,930.80, resulting in a net income of Php 259,747.20. The break-even point was calculated at 15,435.26 kg of grated coconut meat, with a payback period of approximately 0.35 years and a high rate of return of 180%. The results demonstrate that the hydraulic-powered coconut milk extractor is a cost-effective and efficient solution for small-scale coconut processing, offering substantial improvements over existing methods and contributing to the profitability and sustainability of coconut-based enterprises. The Return of Federalism and Constitutional Politics: Analyzing the Role of the Supreme Court as an Arbiter in Contemporary Political Society

    No full text
Since the ascendancy of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as the centrepiece of a new constitutional order in Canada, there has been a distinctive decline of federal discourse in the courts and within the political sphere. Traditional cases pertaining to the division of powers at the Supreme Court have been eclipsed by the novelty of rights jurisprudence that has consumed the court in the past three decades1. Moreover, constitutional issues have been considered an anathema since the failure of the negotiations at Meech Lake and Charlottetown, exacerbated by the near-death experience for federalism in the 1995 referendum in Québec. In recent years, however, the changing nature of Canada’s political dynamics has signalled a return of federalism and constitutional politics [...

Creation and management of a professional association\u27s Facebook page to increase online visibility and awareness

This action research addressed the issue of low online visibility and awareness of a professional association, especially in the geoscience community. The main issue was collaboratively determined by several stakeholders, including its members, committee heads, and some Board of Trustees officers, utilizing various inquiry tools. A fishbone analysis revealed possible causes of the primary issue, including restricted online visibility due to a seldomly updated website, no deliberate efforts and definite guidelines to publicize the organization, a lack of workforce to promote the association, and the absence of an official social media platform. Using Guo & Saxton’s (2018) framework on the factors affecting the level of attention on social media, for the first cycle, the researcher, together with his collaborators, laid out the groundwork and launched an official Facebook Page for the association. The focus was on expanding the network size by gaining page likes, followers, and engagement in our posts to spur visibility and awareness. While the first cycle\u27s results were generally satisfactory, the number of followers still has to catch up, as should the posts\u27 reach, engagement, and engagement rate. To address concerns emerging from the first cycle, the second cycle focused on enhancing the Facebook Page’s communication strategy by redefining the target audience to better connect with them, fine-tuning the timing and pacing of postings, and improving the visual attractiveness of content. Additionally, the existing framework was enhanced to include other techniques such as goal setting and page branding. Although the number of additional followers fell short of the target, there was an exponential increase in reach and engagement and a drastic improvement in engagement rate

Yogyakarta.

    No full text
Although most would consider music to be a large part of their lives, one could maintain that music is a crucial element to actively pursue and use throughout the human lifespan. From infancy through childhood and the teenage years, adulthood, and finally, old age, the impact and the possibilities music has in each individual life is almost immeasurable. From early connections between a baby and its parents to the rehabilitation of an Alzheimer’s patient, music has proven itself to work wonders on and in the human brain. In this essay I will consider some of the important factors and research done in this field of study and examine the biological effects which take place in the human brain when exposed to music. Various diseases, both mental and physical ailments, and people’s intellect, can and have been influenced by music. Music is stored in such a way that the brain can access it by bypassing seemingly lost connections. The benefits of music education will also be discussed
