    No full text
In his March 2015 interview with Harv Thompson et al, Mark Lefebvre reflects on his long involvement with the arts in Wisconsin, and specifically Robert Gard's contribution to his development and Wisconsin rural arts. He discussed his youth in northeastern Wisconsin and the influence UW-Extension and his undergraduate career at UW-Madison had in his development as an author and publisher. He related his work with Gard and shared reminiscences about a number of major figures in UW's arts heritage. Finally, he discussed his more recent work with medical education. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program and the Gard Foundation's UW-Madison and WI Community Arts History Project

Mean first passage times of two-dimensional processes with jumps

In this paper, we incorporate a jump component into the model based on a two-dimensional degenerate diffusion process for the remaining lifetime of machines in the recent paper [Lefebvre, M., 2010. Mean first-passage time to zero for wear processes. Stochastic Models 26, 46-53] by the second author. We calculate explicitly the expected value of first passage times associated to the two-dimensional process when the jump component is taken to be a compound Poisson process with exponential jumps and random proportion of jumps.Remaining lifetime of machines Wear First passage times Compound Poisson process

    Henri Lefebvre, Space and Folklore

The complex spatial thinking of Henri Lefebvre and its implications for folkloristics are explored in the context of a fictitious conversation between him and the author as they walk around a small farm in southeastern British Columbia. Aspects of Lefebvre’s position are explored and illustrated using examples from this setting, such as fences and campfire pits. Lefebvre’s tripartite schema for conceptualizing space is articulated during this conversation, foregrounding the importance of the oft-occluded espace vécu (lived space). Viewing this as a dialogic, embodied, open-ended domain of space is shown to be a highly generative and potentially transformative approach to understanding space — an approach which has numerous implications for the study of cultural tradition

    No full text
Maryvonne Kendergi (1915-2011) was of Armenian origin, born in Turkey; she lived in France and became a Canadian citizen in 1960. She played a major role in the development of contemporary music in Quebec, as a teacher, communicator and organizer. Her contributions to Quebec culture are closely linked to the history of the Faculty of Music at the Université de Montréal, to Radio-Canada, and organizations such as the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (scmq) and the Association de recherche en musique du Québec (armuq, which later became the sqrm). This survey, carried out in 2022, brings together the personal testimonies of four people who were close to her: Marie-Thérèse Lefebvre, Françoise Davoine, Louise Bail and Mario Gauthier. Together they form a plural portrait of this multi-faceted pioneer, looking at her role as an educator, her contributions as a communicator (particularly on the radio), the publication of her biography, and the organization of her archives
