No full textThe aim of this paper is to give a variational motivation to an earlier work by M. Biroli and S. Marchi, in which the Authors proved the weak convergence of the solutions of relaxed Dirichlet problems with potentials described by a suitable non-negative measure.
In this paper we prove the Γ-convergence of the strongly local Dirichlet functional associated to the above relaxed Dirichlet problem and the convergence of the related minima.
We apply the same methods of Γ-convergence of functionals of the calculus of variations as Dal Maso and Mosco did in an earlier work of theirs

No full textLa «vigorosa riaffermazione della moralità della coscienza etica e civile» incrocia, nel racconto giovanile di Emilio De Marchi Un condannato a morte, uno dei problemi sociali più scottanti delle società moderne: la condanna e l’esecuzione della pena.
Il dibattito di fine Ottocento tra la scuola positivistica e quella classica sul «delinquente nato» opposto alla centralità individuale del libero arbitrio, investe una problematica attuale che De Marchi sviluppa non solo nel racconto carcerario ma, implicitamente, in altri luoghi della sua ispirazione, riconoscendo una componente morale e spirituale nell’agire umano, sepolta dall’avidità, da una visione economica e materialista dell’esistenza.
Nei decenni in cui nasce e si afferma l’antropologia criminale di Cesare Lombroso, a De Marchi non interessa conoscere la fisiognomica dell’”uomo delinquente”, piuttosto il meccanismo per il quale una persona onesta ceda al crimine, quasi sempre per necessità economica,.
Emerge, nel più generale amore per gli umili, una attenzione alla condizione di emarginazione dei malati, anche quelli che oggi sarebbero definiti diversamente abili, parallelamente ad un impegno serio e attivo nella vita pratica a favore delle Associazione dei Rachitici. Storie umane di «ogni colore», ignorate e segrete, che conservano «un soffio, un sapore d’anima».

Stable discontinuous mapped bases: the Gibbs–Runge-Avoiding Stable Polynomial Approximation (GRASPA) method
No full textThe mapped bases or Fake Nodes Approach (FNA), introduced in De Marchi et al. (J Comput Appl Math 364:112347, 2020c), allows to change the set of nodes without the need of resampling the function. Such scheme has been successfully applied for mitigating the Runge’s phenomenon, using the S-Runge map, or the Gibbs phenomenon, with the S-Gibbs map. However, the original S-Gibbs suffers of a subtle instability when the interpolant is constructed at equidistant nodes, due to the Runge’sphenomenon. Here, we propose a novel approach, termed Gibbs–Runge-Avoiding Stable Polynomial Approximation (GRASPA), where both Runge’s and Gibbs phenomena are mitigated simultaneously. After providing a theoretical analysis of the Lebesgue constant associated with the mapped nodes, we test the new approach by performing various numerical experiments which confirm the theoretical findings

No full textThe algebraic polynomial interpolation on n+1 uniformly distributed nodes can be affected by the Runge phenomenon, also when the function f to be interpolated is analytic. Among all techniques that have been proposed to defeat this phenomenon, there is the mock-Chebyshev interpolation which produces a polynomial P that interpolates f on a subset of m+1 of the given nodes whose elements mimic as well as possible the Chebyshev-Lobatto points of order m. In this work we use the simultaneous approximation theory to produce a polynomial P^ of degree r, greater than m, which still interpolates f on the m+1 mock-Chebyshev nodes minimizing, at the same time, the approximation error in a least-squares sense on the other points of the sampling grid. We give indications on how to select the degree r in order to obtain polynomial approximant good in the uniform norm. Furthermore, we provide a sufficient condition under which the accuracy of the mock-Chebyshev interpolation in the uniform norm is improved. Numerical results are provided

No full textIl contributo affronta le questioni legate alla registrabilità dei marchi sonori, ai requisiti ed alla capacità distintiva, analizzando un caso giurisprudenziale risolto dalla Corte di Giustizia delle Comunità Europee. Le questioni affrontate si propongono di risolvere anche i conflitti legati all'uso dei marchi. Viene in particolare affrontato anche il tema relativo alla registrabilità dei marchi sonori in forma digitale, ricorrendo all'uso di tecnologie informatiche, al fine di rendere inequivoco il segno distinto oggetto di protezione e ridurre le ipotesi di conflitto
Optimizing single-photon-source heralding efficiency and detection efficiency metrology at 1550 nm using periodically poled lithium niobate
No full textJohnson noise thermometers (JNT) measure the equilibrium electrical noise, proportional to thermodynamic temperature, of a sensing resistor. In the correlation method, the same resistor is connected to two amplifiers and a correlation of their outputs is performed, in order to reject amplifiers' noise. Such rejection is not perfect: the residual correlation gives a systematic error in the JNT reading. In order to set an upper limit, or to achieve a correction, for such error, a careful electrical modelling of the amplifiers and connections must be performed. Standard numerical simulation tools are inadequate for such modelling. In the literature, evaluations have been performed by the painstaking solving of analytical modelling. We propose an evaluation procedure for the JNT error due to residual correlations which blends analytical and numerical approaches, with the benefits of both: a rigorous and accurate circuit noise modelling, and a fast and flexible evaluation with a user-friendly commercial tool. The method is applied to a simple but very effective ultralow-noise amplifier employed in a working JN
