Overcoming challenges in data collection: Gender in fish feed value chains in Bangladesh

    No full text
Mohammad Mamun-Ur-Rashid is a member of a research team that has tried to come up with a methodology to get information from women in Bangladesh. It’s not easy for women to speak up about unequal conditions or sexual harassment. It’s important to create an environment in which they are comfortable to talk. For example, it’s not easy to get the information from the big fish-millers, which are men. You need to engage with the right people to get the information. By creating more equal relations in the value chains, everyone will benefit. Interview with Mohammad Mamun-Ur-Rashid (WorldFish) for the book "A different kettle of fish? Gender integration in livestock and fish research". http://hdl.handle.net/10568/7668

The heritage of Harun al-Rashid. The Civil War between al-Amin and al-Mamun. Personalities, Incidents and Intrigues.

The caliph Harun al-Rashid was in deep concern about the future of the Abbasid Empire and what might happen between his sons after his death. In 802, while being in Mecca, he therefore proclaimed the following regulations: Al-Amin should be the first heir to the throne and al-Mamun should succeed him to the throne. Al-Rashid appointed al-Mamun governor of the Eastern part of the Empire and gave him the right to rule there as a caliph. That is, he divided the caliphate. Directly after Haruns death in 809 the conflict between his two sons started. After two years of negotiations, war broke out between the brothers – instigated by their ministers al-Fadl b. al-Rabi´ and al-Fadl b. Sahl. Al-Mamuns army won the war and conquered the Empire’s capital Bagdad by killing the caliph al-Amin in 813. However, the Empire remained instable. In 817, Al-Mamun, who had stayed in Chorassan, appointed the Alid Ali Al-Rida to his heir of throne. This enraged the Abbasid family. They deposed al-Mamun and a new period of fighting and negotiations began. This work treats Harun al-Rashid’s caliphate with regard to the regulations of the succession plan and the reasons as well as the incidents of the civil war between his sons. A large important part of the work is dedicated to descriptions of the main personalities involved and the use of numismatics as source

In 2019 RASHID International examined public spaces in Iraq and their role in the promotion and protection of cultural rights. The report reiterates a key definition of ‘public space’ and analyzes public spaces in connection with their political role, their accessibility to women, families and disabled persons, cultural facilities as public spaces, as well as social media and the wider internet, the ‘virtual public space’. Submitted to the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, it formed part of a study to inform the UN General Assembly in autumn 2019. This report is a publication of the non-profit organization RASHID International e.V.
