From Albania to Brazil: Ismail Kadaré's Broken april and its filmic adaptation, Walter Salles' Abril despedaçado
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente, Florianópolis, 2007The aim of the present study is to analyse how issues of Albanian national identity are portrayed in Ismail Kadaré's novel Broken April (Prilli i Thyer), and how such features have been appropriated and translated onto the screen into a Northeastern Brazilian context. I depart from the premise that, even though Brazilian elements are indeed shown in the film, the non existence of the Kanun in Brazil, and the use of narrative techniques different from the ones employed in the novel render the story of the blood feuds in the film more universal than the genuinely Albanian reality depicted in the novel. In sum, the appropriation transcends the Albanian reality into a universal context, showing, at the same time, elements which are typical of the Brazilian culture.O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar como questões sobre a identidade nacional Albanesa são retratadas no romance Abril Despedaçado (Prilli i Thyer), de Ismail Kadaré, e como tais questões foram apropriadas e traduzidas para a tela num contexto Nordestino-Brasileiro. O estudo parte do princípio que, embora elementos tipicamente Brasileiros sejam mostrados no filme, a não existência do Kanun no Brasil, e o uso de técnicas narrativas diferentes das empregadas no romance ajudam a deixar a história das brigas de família no filme com um aspecto mais universal do que a realidade genuinamente Albanesa representada na romance. Em suma, a apropriação transcende a realidade Albanesa para um contexto mais universal, sem deixar de mostrar também elementos típicos da cultura Brasileira
L'avventura editoriale della letteratura albanese in Italia: il caso di Ismail Kadare
The paper reconstructs the arduous journey made by Ismail Kadare's fiction from the early 1970s to the present day, focusing attention on various quest-ions that regard the translation of Kadare's work into over 40 languages. The analysis focuses in particular on the mediation of French in translations of his work and on Kadare's reception in Italy. In addition to providing a detailed account of the works translated so far, the author traces the possible path for future translations, highlighting the gaps in Italian versions of his works and the complexity of the latest authorial versions. Association between angiotensin-converting enzyme insertion-deletion genetic polymorphism and hypertension in a sample of Lebanese patients
Background-Aim: Several studies have looked at the potential link between angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) insertion-deletion (I-D) polymorphism and the risk of hypertension and have shown that the DD polymorphism may be associated with a higher prevalence of hypertension. Our objective was to assess for possible association between ACE variants and hypertension in a sample of Lebanese patients. Methods: One hundred ninety-two Lebanese subjects were included. DNA was isolated and amplified by polymerase chain reaction. The products were identified by gel electrophoresis according to their size. Results: One hundred fifteen (59.9percent) patients were hypertensive and 77 (40.1percent) were nonhypertensive with the following genotype frequencies: 43.4percent DD, 45.2percent ID, and 11.4percent II compared with 35.2percent DD, 51.9percent ID, and 12.9percent II, respectively. Age was found to be the most significant risk factor for hypertension. This was more prominent when accounting for ACE genotype; for instance, the DD genotype with age had a significantly higher odds ratio (OR=11.852; p=0.001) than the ID genotype with age (OR=4.599; p=0.006), II genotype with age (OR=1.866; p=0.519), and age alone (OR=5.558; p=0.006). Intern experience at Honeywell, Inc., Large Information Systems Division: an internship report

Inc. - Large Information Systems Division from January, 1982 through August, 1982. The purpose
of the assignment was to fulfill the internship requirements of the Doctor of Engineering
Program. During the internship, the author held the position of VLSI design engineer, where he
worked on a predefined project. The project's objective was to evaluate how circuit designs
based on an advanced CMOS process, can be applied to hardware products at LISD. The internship
allowed the author to successfully apply the MOS circuit design training, which ws developed
at Texas A&M, to an industrial project. In addition, involvement in different activities
and exposure to the various problems not encountered in academia, made this internship an
invaluable experience
Placental Weight And Foetal Weight In Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension
This is a descriptive prospective study carried out in three main
maternity units in period from 15th September 2002 to 15th March 2003.
Informations were collected from patients presented to the labour ward,
and follow this patients till delivery in Khartoum Teaching Hospital,
Omdurman Maternity Hospital and Soba University Hospital using a
questionnaire.
A sum of 119 patients were studied for the effect of PIH in placental
weight and foetal weight. In these patients, 100 ladies were delivered
and 19 ladies were excluded from the study.
Most of the study population were in the age group 30 – 34 years (37%)
and more than half (58%) from rural area, 58% were parous women and
14% were primigravida.
Correlation was done between placental weight and foetal weight, there
was a significant association between foetal weight and gestational age
(P < 0.021), induction of labour (P. < 0.02), C/S (P < 0.01). There was also
significant association between PIH and birth weight <4kg. The majority
of babies between 1.5 – 2.5 kg. There was no association between PIH
and weight more than 4 kg.

There was a significant association between PIH and age, residence,
education, socioeconomic status of the patient and the past history of
the disease and placental weight.
There was no association between PIH and calcification of the placenta.
The study conducted that PIH is a risk factor for maternal outcome,
operative delivery and neonatal outcome.
Good antenatal care during pregnancy and good nursery facilities were
recommended
Lignoselluloosa- ja selluloosamateriaalien kehittyneet kuvantamismenetelmät
AbstractLignocelluloses and their structural components are the most abundant biopolymeric materials. They are a renewable and biodegradable source for several applications (e.g., paper, packaging, and functional materials). Potential innovations related to lignocelluloses are foreseen both in the traditional product sectors such as packaging, hygiene, and tissue paper products, and multiple new areas, ranging from electronics to biomedicine. These innovations are based on novel forms of sustainable materials, such as nano- and microscale celluloses. For instance, nanocellulose films are tough, durable, and biodegradable. Their properties (e.g., mechanical strength and optical properties) can be altered when combined with functional fillers. Understanding the composition of lignocellulosic biomass and the structure of its different material designs is crucial for its efficient use. However, the material analysis of lignocelluloses is not straightforward; thus, easy-to-use analytical techniques are needed. Advanced imaging techniques offer appealing possibilities in lignocellulose analysis. This thesis aimed to investigate and understand various lignocellulose and cellulose materials, i.e., delignified wood fibers (thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibers), tissue paper, and nanocellulose films, using advanced imaging techniques. The objective was to harness new techniques that can provide detailed information on the spatial distribution of material constituents and the structure and dynamics of physicochemical phenomena of materials derived from lignocelluloses. Fluorescence lifetime imaging tracked the delignification process based on a eutectic mixture and its effect on the TMP fiber characteristics, where it was found that cellulose poses fluorescent characteristics, and that lignin starts dissipating from the outer most layer of the fibers. The topography of tissue paper was tracked using noninvasive laser confocal microscopy, and measured the affect of the production on tissue paper’s softness. The morphology and chemical composition of hybrid nanocellulose films was measured in tandem using scanning transmission soft X-ray microscopy. The structure correlated to the mechanical properties, showing that agglomeration affects the mechanical behavior of the hybrid films at a certain point. Finally, the color change of thermochromic nanocellulose films was studied using optical microscopy and UV-vis spectroscopy, showing that the color change happens gradually in relation to temperature and humidity.Original papersOriginal papers are not included in the electronic version of the dissertation.Ismail, M. Biomassat ja niiden johdannaiset, erityisesti selluloosa, ligniini ja hemiselluloosa (lignoselluloosat) ovat luonnon yleisimpiä biopolymeerejä, joita voidaan käyttää uusiutuvina ja biohajoavina raaka-aineina useissa sovelluksissa (esim. paperi-, ja pakkausmateriaaleissa ja funktionaalisissa kemikaaleissa). Fossiilisiin raaka-aineisiin liittyvien ympäristöongelmien vuoksi on tärkeää löytää uusiutuvia materiaaleja ja lisätä biopohjaisten vaihtoehtojen käyttöä. Lignoselluloosamateriaalien tutkimus ja niihin liittyvät innovaatiot ovat olennaisessa osassa ympäristön kannalta kestävien tuotteiden kehityksessä. Erilaiset kuvantamis- ja karakterisointimenetelmät ovat keskeisiä näiden materiaalien tutkimuksessa. Konsep Tauhid Ismail Raji’ Al Faruqi dalam Islamisasi Ilmu
The development of science for decades has been influenced by Western and Eastern philosophers, resulting in science that is considered too rationalistic and wastes humanity. This has a huge impact on Muslims, because the development of science causes a decline in morals and ethics that are not based on Islam. Therefore, the purpose of writing this article is to find out Ismail Raji' Al Faruqi's views on the Islamization of knowledge through the concept of monotheism. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature review method. Where the author collects factual data and information and explores sources contained in journals and scientific articles, encyclopedias, documents and other relevant data sources. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the main thought of Ismail Raji' Al Faruqi was the concept of integrating Islamic education and science, namely combining two scientific fields to become interrelated and inseparable, so that science can develop harmoniously and there is no dichotomy. Islamization is not just the activity of naming Islamic verses or sciences, but rather the process of building an appropriate methodology based on Islamic concepts, ensuring that the sciences applied follow existing Islamic law

FALSAFAH PANCASILA SEBAGAI LANDASAN PENDIDIKAN DALAM LAYANAN BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING DI INDONSESIA
This research aims to find a conceptual explanation regarding Pencasila as a philosophical system and as a basis for education in the implementation of guidance and counseling in Indonesia. The method used is library research which refers to four steps, namely; selecting concepts to be reviewed, reading and analyzing (synthesizing) literature, and writing articles. The results of the conceptual analysis of this study explain that the Pancasila philosophy is closely related to guidance and counseling, because it is by its main essence, namely always prioritizing the principles of comfort and prosperity in living together among fellow humans. Apart from that, Pancasila is also a foundation of education and a basic foundation and framework for guidance and counseling teachers/school counselors in implementing guidance and counseling services in Indonesia. Currently and in the future, guidance and counseling teachers/school counselors and other guidance and counseling practitioners can implement two major issues, namely religious counseling and multicultural counseling which are in line with the essence of the Pancasila philosophy in Indonesia.Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui penjelasan secara konseptual mengenai Pencasila sebagai suatu sistem falsafah dan menjadi landasan pendidikan dalam pelaksanaan bimbingan dan konseling (BK) di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan ialah penelitian kepustakaan (library research) yang mengacu pada empat langkah, yaitu; memilih konsep yang akan diulas, membaca, dan menganalisis (sintesa) literatur, dan menulis artikel. Hasil telaah konseptual dari studi ini menjelaskan bahwa falsafah Pancasila sangat memiliki kaitan erat dengan bimbingan dan konseling, karena sesuai dengan hakikat utamanya yaitu senantiasa mengutamakan pada asas kenyamanan dan kesejahteraan hidup bersama antar sesama manusia. Selain itu, Pancasila juga merupakan suatu landasan pendidikan dan sebagai dasar pijakan serta kerangka kerja bagi guru BK/konselor sekolah dalam melaksanakan layanan BK di Indonesia. The Work of Hafız İsmail Müşfik Efendy Named Müşfik-Name (Analysis-Text)
Bu çalışmada hicri 1270 (M. 1854) yılında Cerîde-i Havadis Matbaasında taş baskı usulüyle basılan Müşfiknâme adlı eser ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın temel amacı, Hafız İsmail Müşfik Efendinin günümüze ulaşan tek eserini bilim dünyasına kazandırmaktır.
İlk 39 sayfasında mektuplar, 40-67. sayfaları arasında şiirler bulunan, içerisinde Arapça bir mektup ve Arapça bir lugazın da yer aldığı bu eser, Cerîde-i Havadise yazılar yazan şair ve münşi Hâfız İsmail Müşfik Efendi’ye aittir.
Üç bölüm halinde hazırlanan çalışmanın ilk bölümü eserin müellifi ile münşeat geleneğine ayrılmıştır. Bu bölümde Hafız İsmail Müşfik Efendi’nin hayatı ve edebî kişiliğine yer verilmiş, münşeat geleneğinden özet olarak söz edilmiştir.
İkinci bölümde Müşfiknâme şekil ve muhteva unsurları bakımından incelenmiştir. Şekil ve muhteva hususiyetlerinde mektuplar ve şiirler incelenirken muhtevada küçük de olsa bir tahlil çalışması yapılmıştır. Metinde yer alan mektupların muhtevası, türleri; şiirlerin muhtevası, türleri ve nazım şekilleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Çalışmanın son bölümünde eserin transkripsiyonlu metni verilmiştir. Tezin sonuna matbu nüshanın tıpkıbasımı eklenmiştir.The work named Müşfiknâme is analyzed in this study. The process of lithography was used in creating this special work, Müşfiknâme. The work was prepared in Cerîde-i Havâdis Printing House in Hijri 1270 (1854). The basic purpose of this study is to make this single remaining work by Müşfik Efendy known in the world of literature.
The first 39 pages of the work consist letters, while the pages between 40 and 67 consist poems. There is an Arabic letter and an Arabic dictionary in this work, which was written by Hâfız İsmail Müşfik Efendy, who wrote articles in Cerîde-İ Havâdis.
The study is prepared in three different sections. The first section is about the author and the tradition of münşeat. In this section, the life and literary personality of Hâfız İsmail Müşfik Efendy is presented. On the other hand, the tradition of münşeat is presented as a summary.
In the second section, Müşfiknâme is analyzed in terms of its shape and content. Letters and poems are carefully analyzed in terms of their shape and content while a small-scaled detailed analysis is carried about the composition. Information about the types and contents of letters in the text is presented. Types of poems and verse structures are analyzed and presented to readers. In the last section of the study, transcription text of the work is included. A facsimile of the printed copy is added at the end of the thesis
