Marica Stanković. Woman of joyful holiness and uncompromising morality

    No full text
The process for the beatification of Marica Stankovic, a prolific writer and prominent Croatian Catholic activist, was launched in Zagreb in 2006. In order to present Marica’s character and work primarily to the Catholic public in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the author of this article first discusses the most important stages and events of her life. The greatness of Marica’s character came to the fore especially as a result of the secular institute „The Community of the Associates of Christ the King“, which she founded. In the second part of the article, the author focuses on the concept of holiness which Marica envisaged for the Community. It is the holiness of those who are totally dedicated to God but who live and work among the laity and in so doing, although exposed to trials and crosses, radiate joy among the people they live with. This is precisely the holiness that Marica advocates. The third part of the article describes this holiness, interwoven with a rigorous morality. This section is devoted to the moral formation of young Catholic women that Marica performed with love. The conclusion stresses that Marica Stankovic lived holiness consistently and that her concept of holiness is very much needed in our time

Inselperspektiven von historischem Boden. Marica Bodrožić' Erzählband "Der Windsammler" // Island Perspectives on Historical Ground – Marica Bodrožić's Short Story Collection "Der Windsammler"

    No full text
In her short story collection "Der Windsammler" (2007) Marica Bodrožić, a German-language author of Croatian origin, casts a glance at the world of Croatian islands. The article performs an analysis of three stories from this collection in order to reveal the overlapping between the history of certain islands (such as Brijuni or Goli Otok) on the one hand and the narrative production of characters on the other hand. In the stories, it is often one village or town that serves as the starting point for questioning one's relationship to individual and collective history

Reinventing Wastescapes in port cities: A resilient and regenerative approach to plan Naples at the time of logistics

Port cities and metropolitan port territories are experiencing a profound transition as a consequence of radical spatial and governance changes mainly led by logistics’ dynamics. Contemporary spaces between ports and cities have often become a collage of wastescapes: marginal territories resulting from the current uneven growth of port cities. This contribution developes a new methodological approach by stating that neglected spaces represent a precious resource to initiate circular and resilient regenerations of port cities through metabolic transformation processes. The article points out the wastescapes of the port of Naples as network of resources that allows decision-makers and urban planners to combine the logistical strategies and the enhancement of the port cultural heritage through synergistic interventionsHistory, Form & AestheticsEnvironmental Technology and Desig

Grotesque Elements in Narratives of Bruno Schulz

Purpose of this work is reading through the collection of narratives by Bruno Schulz Dućani cimetne boje (Cinnamon Shops; Sklepy Cynamonowe) and to detect grotesque elements and their function when figurating/shaping the piece. We will be watching grotesque throughout three elements: figure (father), time and space. Central figure of the collection is father Jakub who is not represented by mimetic instruments, but the author uses fantasy which is argumented and verified because, at first sight, it is about child optics of observation. But, problem complicates in moment when the writer disintegrates realistic time and space and on a stage, which is freed from logic and laws of reality, he sets his characters who in those moments become and they are grotesque creations of imagination

Gut microbiota in the pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches of diabetes

    No full text
The gut-liver axis plays a prominent role in the pathogenesis and therapy of metabolic diseases such as diabetes. The intestinal specific origin of several hormones that guide both inter-and post-prandial metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids, drives the attention of scientists and clinicians on the gut as a major site to intervene with novel diagnostic or prognostic markers. The role of intestinal ecology in the metabolic syndrome was postulated when gut microbiota was directly connected with inflammation, hyperinsulinemia, and diabetes. There have been several discoveries with the role of gut microbiota and gut-liver axis in diabetes. Also, there are several trials ongoing on the therapeutic efficacy of probiotic administration in diabetes and its complications. Here we point to the metabolic action of microbiota and discuss the actual state of the art on gut microbiota as a novel prognostic biomarker with a putative therapeutic role in diabetes.

    No full text
This article deals with the context of repression and murders of the queers in the 1980s in Argentina. The essay Matan a una marica, written by Néstor Perlongher for the magazine Fin de Siglo in Buenos Aires, october 1988, is taken as a starting point. An isolating and binding text analysis is proposed, from the text to the context, based on the consideration that the text itself corresponds to the enunciative and militant place of the language of the queer, allowing to unveil a historical context characterized by the repression and murders of the queers, against which the author opposes with his madman resistance.

The paper presents the discovering of an oral archive. Anna Maria Bruzzone’s book Ci chiamavano matti. Voci da un ospedale psichiatrico (Einaudi, Torino 1979) contains the testimonies of thirty-seven patients of the Arezzo psychiatric hospital collected in 1977. The book testimonies the patients’ miserable lives inside and outside the hospital and sheds light on the atrocity of their everyday condition by letting them speak for themselves. The author wrote it after a two-month stay in Arezzo, when she spent almost every day in the hospital, attending the general meetings and participating to the lives of the inpatients, in a continuous dialogue of which only a part is collected in the published interviews. The oral recordings on which the book is based were believed to be lost forever. After long and strenuous search I have been able to locate the original tapes. Such discovery is of great magnitude, because the digitisation and cataloguing of this archive would produce the first digital oral archive related to an Italian psychiatric hospital – which was located in the same buildings of my Department (Department of Educational Sciences, Human Sciences and Intercultural Communication of the University of Siena – Arezzo) where also the Historical Archive of the Arezzo psychiatric hospital is hosted

This paper presents and analyzes the third publication of Argentine writer Nicolás Colfer, the queer novel La reina del Paraguay (2024), with the aim of postulating its relevance to the corpus of Argentine utopian/dystopian literature located in the delta already studied by Pérez Gras (2023). The presence in this work of both utopian desires in the characters and utopias realized with different results is highlighted. Based on personal communications from the author, a comparison is made between the ending that the novel had in its first version and the ending chosen for the present edition. This allows us to consider the relevance of utopian thought today and the contributions that can be made to it from queer literature.
