The Life and Letters of William Sharp and "Fiona Macleod"
"William Sharp (1855-1905) conducted one of the most audacious literary deceptions of his or any time. Sharp was a Scottish poet, novelist, biographer and editor who in 1893 began to write critically and commercially successful books under the name Fiona Macleod. This was far more than just a pseudonym: he corresponded as Macleod, enlisting his sister to provide the handwriting and address, and for more than a decade ""Fiona Macleod"" duped not only the general public but such literary luminaries as William Butler Yeats and, in America, E. C. Stedman.
Sharp wrote ""I feel another self within me now more than ever; it is as if I were possessed by a spirit who must speak out"". This three-volume collection brings together Sharp’s own correspondence – a fascinating trove in its own right, by a Victorian man of letters who was on intimate terms with writers including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Walter Pater, and George Meredith – and the Fiona Macleod letters, which bring to life Sharp’s intriguing ""second self"".
With an introduction and detailed notes by William F. Halloran, this richly rewarding collection offers a wonderful insight into the literary landscape of the time, while also investigating a strange and underappreciated phenomenon of late-nineteenth-century English literature. Clinical Presentation and Outcome of COVID-19 in a Latin American Versus Spanish Population: Matched Case-Control Study

The objective is to compare the clinical characteristics and outcome of Latin American and Spanish populations in a cohort of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 during the first year of the pandemic. Methods: We retrospectively analysed all the Latin American patients (born in South or Central America) hospitalized in our centre from February 2020 to February 2021 and compared them with an age- and gender-matched group of Spanish subjects. Variables included were demographics, co-morbidities, clinical and analytical parameters at admission and treatment received. The primary outcomes were ICU admission and mortality at 60 days. A conditional regression analysis was performed to evaluate the independent baseline predictors of both outcomes. Results: From the 3216 patients in the whole cohort, 216 pairs of case-controls (Latin American and Spanish patients, respectively) with same age and gender were analysed. COPD was more frequent in the Spanish group, while HIV was more prevalent in the Latin American group. Other co-morbidities showed no significant difference. Both groups presented with similar numbers of days from symptom onset, but the Latin American population had a higher respiratory rate (21 vs. 20 bpm, P = 0.041), CRP (9.13 vs. 6.22 mg/dl, P = 0.001), ferritin (571 vs. 383 ng/ml, P = 0.012) and procalcitonin (0.10 vs. 0.07 ng/ml, P = 0.020) at admission and lower cycle threshold of PCR (27 vs. 28.8, P = 0.045). While ICU admission and IVM were higher in the Latin American group (17.1% vs. 13% and 9.7% vs. 5.1%, respectively), this was not statistically significant. Latin American patients received remdesivir and anti-inflammatory therapies more often, and no difference in the 60-day mortality rate was found (3.2% for both groups). Conclusion: Latin American patients with COVID-19 have more severe disease than Spanish patients, requiring ICU admission, antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapies more frequently. Plan de acción para implementar endobranding como estrategia de posicionamiento del punto designado de contacto (dpoc) en el cliente interno de Merck Sharp and Dohme, Colombia (MSD)
El trabajo que se realizó consistió en la implementación de una campaña de branding interno con el propósito de posicionar en la mente del cliente interno la marca DPOC, que corresponde a un área de la empresa MSD. La anterior oportunidad de mejora se detectó luego de un exhaustivo diagnóstico del área de campo y se desarrolló luego de un trabajo de comunicación y de diseño idóneo. El presente trabajo de grado arroja como resultado final, la implementación de endobranding logró el posicionamiento del Punto Designado de Contacto (DPOC) en el cliente interno de Merck Sharp and Dohme, Colombia (MSD). Además se concluyó que para su ejecución fue necesario el desarrollo de un plan de acción organizado, estructurado y aliado con el Departamento de Comunicaciones, con el fin de establecer las bases necesarias para mitigar los problemas encontrados y alcanzar los resultados deseados.The work performed consisted in implementing internal branding campaign with the purpose of positioning the brand DPOC in the internal customer mind. It corresponds to an area of the company MSD. The improvement opportunity mentioned is detected after a thorough diagnosis of the field area and then developed a communication work and suitable design. This paper throws as a final result, implementation of endobranding achieved the positioning of the Designated Point of Contact (COPD) in the internal client from Merck Sharp and Dohme, Colombia (MSD). In addition, it was concluded that it was necessary for execution developing an action plan organized, structured and allied with the Department of Communications. It was in order to establish the foundation needed to alleviate the problems found and achieve the desired results
Integration of metallic source/drain (MSD) contacts in nanoscaled CMOS technology
An overview of metallic source/drain (MSD) contacts in nanoscaled MOSFET technology is provided in this paper. MSD contacts offer several benefits for nanoscaled CMOS, i.e., extremely low S/D parasitic resistance, abruptly sharp junctions between S/D and channel and preferably low temperature processing. In order to achieve high performance MSD MOSFETs, many design parameters such as Schottky barrier height (SBH), S/D to gate underlap, top Si layer thickness, oxide thickness and so on should be optimized. Recently, a lot of efforts have been invested in MSD MOSFETs based on Pt- and Ni-silicide implementation and several promising results have been reported in literature. The experimental work as well as the results of Monte Carlo simulations by this research team and by other research teams is discussed in this paper. It will be shown that the present results place MSD MOSFETs as a competitive candidate for future generations of CMOS technology.</p

The profile of variation in natural logarithm of the ratio of ensemble-averaged MSD to time,log (〈r2〉/t), with respect to the natural logarithm of time, log (t), is referred here as the log-log profile for simplicity. (A-G) Each plot demonstrates the log-log profiles of MSD across the increasing CRO density for a given condition of self-crowding. Perfectly normal diffusion is characterized by a flat or horizontal log-log profile across the entire duration of MSD measurement. However, profiles exhibiting sharp linear decrease at longer time characterize strongly anomalous sub-diffusion or confined diffusion and indicate the original dependence of MSD on time raised to a fractional power (power-law relation). There are profiles too which show transition from anomalous to normal diffusion. Evidently, tracer diffusion is observed to be confined and strongly anomalous at higher densities of CROs and DTs.</p
