No full textIl capitolo 5, Ecologia politica e sviluppo, è scritto da Maura Benegiamo. Esso introduce i principali elementi della critica allo sviluppo e dell’ideologia della crescita sulla base dei concetti e degli strumenti analitici dell’ecologia politica e degli studi critici sullo sviluppo: in particolare, neomarxismo, ecofemminismo, poststrutturalismo, economia ecologica, pensiero decoloniale. Il paragrafo 1 ripercorre l’evoluzione di paradigmi e dibattito sullo sviluppo in relazione alla questione ambientale, dalla definizione postbellica dell’idea di «sviluppo» alle ricette della crescita verde. Il paragrafo 2 introduce il dibattito dell’ecologia politica riguardo alla questione dello sviluppo, attraverso la discussione di alcuni testi chiave. Il paragrafo 3 analizza la relazione tra sviluppo, povertà e ambiente confrontando la prospettiva della modernizzazione ecologica con quella dell’ecologia politica. No full textQue cela implique-t-il d’analyser l’urgence sanitaire actuelle à travers le prisme de l’écologie politique, et quel en est l’intérêt ? Selon Maura Benegiamo, qui prolonge ici une réflexion qu’elle avait commencée lors du premier confinement au printemps 2020 [1], la réponse à cette double question tourne autour de la notion de crise, de la manière dont l’écologie politique a appréhendé les crises du capital et de la critique anti-systémique spécifique qui en est issue. Les corrélations entre crises sanitaires et dégradations écosystémiques fournissent un complément à l’analyse qui dessine une autre correspondance, plus générale et propre au néolibéralisme, celle qui associe la « normalité » de la crise capitaliste à la prise en compte ordinaire du risque et de l’urgence de plus en plus banalisée

Through this landmark case, the book shows how European energy and global food security policies are reshaping rural spaces, expanding agrarian extractivism in sub-Saharan Africa.
By shedding light on how contemporary capital–nature relationships perpetuate socio-ecological crises and colonial models, the book highlights the enduring forms of opposition to these processes. At the heart of these struggles lies a crucial question: how can we understand today’s crises while reclaiming alternative ways of living, producing and inhabiting the land

André Gorz’s Labour-Based Political Ecology and Its Legacy for the Twenty-First Century
No full textThis chapter critically reviews André Gorz’s thinking, in particular his labour-based political ecology, to argue that it belongs within environmental labour studies as a cutting-edge field of inquiry. Based on Gorz’s theoretical toolkit, it discusses the historical transformation of the link between capitalist development, natural environment and working-class struggles. In particular, the chapter focuses on Gorz's analysis of the ecological crisis as a crisis of capitalist reproduction, whose implications are relevant for a critical understanding of the post-Fordist mode of accumulation. To grasp the ecological dimension of contemporary valorisation – that is, to analyse how physical limits to growth are turned from obstacles to drivers of accumulation – the conclusion connects Gorz’s insights with recent debates on biocapitalism, drawing especially on Melinda Cooper’s contributions.

dibattito politico, nonostante sia il risultato naturale dell’affermazione
dei recenti movimenti antisistemici, delle lotte per il superamento
dell’eredità coloniale e del patriarcato, della rielaborazione del pensiero
marxista, di quello socialista e di quello libertario. Negli ultimi
decenni, in particolare, la critica allo sviluppo si è rivelata l’ambito
principale in cui si è potuto pensare un’alternativa ai grandi progetti
sociali della modernità, incluse le grandi esperienze di gestione collettivista
dell’economia. Ciò ha comportato anche una diversa lettura
della storia più recente e il ripensamento delle principali utopie

No full textThe paper delves on the meaning of the notion of Pluriverse, in the context of the failure of the Growth paradigm and of the worldwide spread of neoliberal rule. It considers the manifold perspectives by which the Pluriverse is conceived and addressed throughout the book - a radical diversity that does not prevent minimal bases of reciprocal understanding and joint action, according to Michael Walzer's notion of reiterative universalism. It focuses as well on some key issues. One is the squestion of work: that is, whether it is only an issue of rethinking work outside capitalist relations or of rethinking it entirely, as an ontological category. Another is technology and its socio-ecological impacts, and namely whether one should think in a reformist key or in a radically transformative one, whereby not only the means but also the goals are rethought. Yet another issue is that of hybridization and ontological fluidity as an allegedly emancipative theoretical and social movement move or process, or as one exposed to high risks of capture. A final topic is whether one is to follow the experimental catastrophism of some cutting-edge scholarship vis-à-vis the (re)emergent forces of Nature (i.e. 'geopower') or rather pursue a politics of friendship with the human and the nonhuman, recovering some intuitions of Benjamin and Adorno
