Introduzione. Georg Simmel e la questione della libertà

    No full text

The last decades of the 20th century saw a re-organisation of social structures based on the global techno-economic system. In this context, freedom becomes equal to the indefinite increase in possibilities and the self-determination of the individual, a one-sided decoupling in line with the idea of an absolute freedom. The current crisis we find ourselves in demonstrates the necessity for solutions, not only of a technological nature, but that are able to take into account the different aspects of social life and create a balance. Thus, the challenge is to attempt to rethink freedom from its internal relational matrix. This article aims to offer a contribution to the ongoing debate on freedom and explores freedom in the context of a new model for human coexistence and social development. It suggests shifting the vision of freedom based on quantitative growth and consumption to a more advanced perspective of social organisation, in which “generative” freedom reflects a relational anthropological vision

Il potenziale della relazione sociale di prossimità. Il caso delle comunità di famiglie

The concept of community has known a wide spread use in sociology. However, although, it might seem simple to define community as one of the best known associative forms of human cohabitation, such a definition presents also some empirical problems. In the first place, because community has been often defined as something that dissolves itself with the coming of the modern world. Secondly, because recently such a concept has been used in sociological analysis with problematic meanings. This article attempts to explore such a concept in empirical terms and to offer a contribution to its redefinition referring to a field investigation which involved some communities of families. Starting from this, a definition of community is hypothesized in the form of a social relationship strongly anchored to the moment of intersubjectivity and capable of generating mutations in contratendency to the contemporary culture

The Dual Nature of Authority and Its Generative Capacity

    No full text
Authority is a controversial and complex term. It refers to a social process that shapes intersubjective and institutional relationships. This article aims to discuss „authority‟ starting from the meaning of the term and its controversial history, and then to identify the characteristics of its dual nature. This duality is inherent in authority itself and can be seen as the relation between the instituted forms of society and the innovative, creative forces that drive change through human social actions and interactions. This may help us to reconsider authority and its contribution to social life from a perspective of generating change

Istantanee simmeliane. La vita sub specie relationis

    No full text
In these pages we aim to take some ‘snapshots’ of Georg Simmel's thought regarding a phenomenon of fundamental importance in his work: the relationship. Even before what appears on the surface of social life, relationship concerns a very deep level where it happens according to a particular modality capable of safeguarding otherness. In fact, the topic ‘relationship’ in Simmel implies considering what is the condition of the relationship itself, that is, life, on which the first snapshot focuses. The second one focuses on an aspect of human existence outlined by the Berlin thinker as 'vital-spiritual existence': relationship between organic matter and awareness, interiority, culture. The last snapshot concerns the individual that Simmel outlines as a 'whole man', constitutively relational in his identity and individuality

Note sugli autori e sui testi fondatori del concetto
