Empirical fragility curves for settlement-affected buildings: Analysis of different intensity parameters for seven hundred masonry buildings in The Netherlands
The analysis and prediction of damage to buildings resting on highly compressible fine-grained ‘‘soft soils” containing (organic) clay
and peat are key issues to be addressed for a proper management of subsidence-affected urban areas. Among the probabilistic approaches suggested in literature, those oriented to the generation of empirical fragility curves are particularly promising provided that a comprehensive dataset for both the subsidence-related intensity (SRI) parameters and the corresponding damage severity to buildings is available. Following this line of thought, in the present paper, a rich sample of more than seven hundred monitored (by remote sensing) and surveyed masonry buildings – mainly resting with their (shallow or piled) foundations on soft soils – is analysed in four urban areas of The Netherlands. Probabilistic functions in the form of fragility curves for building damage are retrieved for three different SRI parameters (i.e., differential settlement, rotation and deflection ratio) derived from the processing of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images by way of a differential interferometric (DInSAR) technique in combination with the severity levels of the damage recorded from the visual inspection of over 700 masonry buildings. As a novelty with respect to earlier similar studies, the work points out the methodological steps to be followed in order to identify the most appropriate SRI parameter among the selected ones. Thus, the objective of the paper is to improve the existing geotechnical forecasting tools for subsidence-affected urban areas, in order to target areas that require more detailed investigations/analyses and/or to select/prioritize foundation repairing/replacing measures
The symbols in the poetry of ruben dario
In this thesis we explore definitions of symbols and the life of the author in the book of Ruben Dario. Dario is an author who emphasized the importance of the use of symbols though out his books. Therefore we might consider him as a master specialized in writing with symbols.
We divide the thesis into three chapters. In the first chapter, we give details to the definition of the symbols. According to scholars like Urban, Frye, Todorov and Cirlot, we are able to understand symbols in forms of signs, images and words. The concept of the symbols is relatively comprehensive, taking into consideration that a symbol is not always a sign; in fact, it is much more than a sign.
In the second chapter, we describe Ruben Dario about his life, literary works and the times when he lived. His life was interesting, colorful and varied. He was not only a poet but a public figure, having been an ambassador of Nicaragua in Spain. Dario wrote many pieces and each was important to him. Based on his narration, there are three books that can represent Ruben Dario, Azul, Prosas profanas and Cantos de vida y esperanza.
Dario was the master of Modernism, mainly because of the great influence of Latin America. Not only did Ruben Dario influence the poets of Modernism but was influenced by other poets in the same period.
In the last chapter we examine the symbols in the poetry of Dario and we divided the symbols into three parts: the colors, birds and precious stones. The first part, we examine the colors. There are blue, green, and black. In the second part, we deal with the symbols of birds, including swans, pigeons, peacocks and eagles. And in the last part, we talk about precious stones. We analyze the symbols of agate, ruby, diamond, crystal and gold. Finally, we end up with the conclusions and bibliography.INTRODUCCION 1

’The Prison and the Factory’ Revisited (2017): Penality and the Critique of Political Economy Between Marx and Foucault
An assessment of the "fortune" of the book by Dario Melossi and Massimo Pavarini, The Prison and the Factory, 40 years after the original publication. In particular, the author deals with the relationship with the work by Michel Foucault and the linkages of both to the Marxist tradition
Quantitative analysis of the risk to road networks exposed to slow-moving landslides: a case study in the Campania region (southern Italy)
This paper shows the results of a study aimed at quantitatively estimating—in terms of direct (repair) costs, at large
scale (1:5000)—the slow-moving landslide risk to a road network assumed as undamaged as well as the consequences to the same network in damaged conditions. The newly conceived methodological approaches address some challenging tasks concerning (i) the hazard analysis, which is expressed in terms of probability of occurrence of slow-moving landslides with a given intensity level that, in turn, is established based on empirical fragility curves, and
(ii) the consequence analysis, which brings to the generation of time-dependent vulnerability curves. Their applicability is successfully tested in a case study in the Campania region (southern Italy) for which both very high-resolution DInSAR data and information gathered from in situ surveys on the severity of damage sustained by the selected road sections are available. Benefits associated with the use of the obtained results in informed decision-making processes are finally discussed

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping emergency medicine by optimizing processes and enhancing decision-making in highpressure environments. Emergency rooms often face challenges such as overcrowding and resource constraints, where AIpowered tools provide innovative solutions. Digital tools, such as multilingual interactive kiosks, enhance communication, reduce errors, and streamline patient triage processes. Projects like the "Digital Triage at the Emergency Room" within the Italian ANTHEM initiative exemplify the potential of AI to improve emergency room efficiency and patient outcomes. By integrating advanced analytics into care pathways, these technologies aim to reduce wait times, improve decision-making, and enhance the overall patient experience, paving the way for a more responsive and inclusive healthcare system.
However, appropriate regulatory frameworks must be established to ensure these tools can effectively support healthcare professionals while safeguarding patient safety and trus

Portraits of the jester as an author : Dario Fo or the representations of a theatre-man
Dario Fo is a theatre-man whose work ceaselessly redefines the author as an actor and the actor as an author, in a process that claims his dual position on stage and in public life. He thus creates an approach to theatre that, though not radically new, distinguishes itself in the theatrical landscape of his time, by encroaching on other fields of activity and competency, earning him a global recognition as an actor and intellectual. The first part of this study analyzes the creative process and shows how Dario Fo stages himself as an author through writing, acting and directing. The second part considers how the authorial figure is presented to the public : as part of a larger network of references that lends coherence to his work as a whole, in the fixation of this work through publishing, audio and video-recording and archiving, and through the circulation of his productions in Italy and the world, with or without his presence. The third part analyzes the construction of his intellectual authority, his promotion to the status of political spokesman and mentor
