Errance, déracinement volontaire : Le cas de Akira Mizubayashi

    No full text
“It is this effort of voluntary absence, of voluntary uprooting, of active distancing compared to its environment which always appears natural, it is then the way to get away from oneself -even if for one moment or only temporarily-, to separate from the roots, the national and all of what is, more generally, fixed in a narrow identity, it is this and above all what I would call wandering” (Mizubayashi 107-108). This extract from Petit éloge de l’errance from Akira Mizubayashi, a Japanese writer of French expression, places us at the center of the interior nomadism theme, evoking his deliberate choice for wandering, of the Japanese society. Wandering which is understood as a decline in identity and questioning, but also as discovery of Western culture. In his writings, the author shows his affection, his attachment to the language, literature, and French culture but he also points out the complex multicultural and pluralist relationship which lies between nation, language and identity.

The politics of Atlanta’s public housing: race, planning, and inclusion, 1936-1975

    No full text
The purpose of this research is threefold: to theorize the political viability of the public housing development as a political opportunity structure; to understand the creation, marginalization, and demolition of this political opportunity structure in Atlanta; and to explicate the movements from within the public housing development that translated to a more empowered residential base, and more livable communities in Atlanta, GA between the 1936 and 1975. The literature on the positive productive functions of public housing is interspersed within the literature on the politics of public housing policies (at the national level), the politics of public housing developments (at the local level), the production of a racial geography in the City of Atlanta, and the productive functions of welfare institutions (including, but not limited to, public housing developments). Further, this project attempts to understand empirical benefits of political opportunity structures, particularly as it relates to low-income and minority housing movements in the city of Atlanta. Theoretically, political opportunity structures provide a neutral platform for low-income city dwellers that have historically been denied the legal means to challenge neighborhood change, and participate in formal urban political processes and institutions. In fact, low-income groups have routinely been uprooted from their neighborhoods, contained to specific areas of the city, while those of greater means invoke a litany of legal obstructions (from restrictive covenants to lot size requirements) to prevent the free movement of low-income residents. Thus, political opportunity structures that are permanently housed in low-income and minority neighborhoods are the theoretical response to the disparities in political opportunity and collective efficacy between socioeconomic groups in the city. Using the case study examples of University Homes, Perry Homes, and Grady Homes, this dissertation examines the uses of public housing developments in Atlanta as political opportunity structures for low-income and working-class African-Americans from 1936 to 1975. The research uses a historical methodology of data collection to create a grounded theory of racial politics in the city, as well as to analyze the production of equitable outcomes and processes in the urban planning process through public housing developments.Ph. Decoupled textures for broadband absorption enhancement beyond Lambertian light trapping limit in thin-film silicon-based solar cells

We present a modelling study of thin silicon based solar cells endowed with periodic and decoupled front/back textures. After careful optimization, the proposed device models exhibit absorption beyond the Lambertian light trapping limit for a wide range of light angles of incidence. The advanced light management scheme is applied to (nano)crystalline silicon solar cells, where the benefits of texturing the absorber rather than the supporting layers is clear and to barium (di)silicide solar cells, which could achieve an implied photocurrent densityof41.1 mA/cm2 for a thickness of only 2 \mum.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Photovoltaic Materials and DevicesElectrical Sustainable Energ

Cultural and linguistic foreignness experienced to Akira Mizubayashi: how to say? or Nanto ittara iika?

This contribution frst highlights the importance of mobility situations (exile, immigration, or voluntary travel) today, one of the consequences of which is the ability of individuals to forge a new ontological, cultural, and linguistic identity that switches between different realities (Kristeva 1991; Todorov 1996; Delbart 2005; Porra 2011; Klinkenberg 2015, Amroui, Abono Maurin, Laouidat 2020, among others). In this context, the essay entitled Une langue venue d’ailleurs (2011) by the writer of Japanese origin, Akira Mizubayashi, born in 1951, allows us to highlight the aspects in either French or Japanese that are related to language (phonetic, lexical, and syntactic point of view) testifying to the existential evolution of the author.
