The Influence of Educational Infrastructure in Agricultural Learning Environment on Students\u27 Interest and Program Selection
No full textThere is a growing global concern in agricultural education due to past findings on students’ lack of interest in studying and considering a career in agriculture. In spite of this, past local studies have shown an agricultural-related careers are getting more interest from students due to the practical learning environment provided by the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Agricultural Science Foundation (ASPer UPM) but there is no thorough explanation regarding the elements of practical learning environment that affects students\u27 interest. This qualitative study was to provide additional insight into the learning infrastructure as a component of the agricultural subjects’ practical learning environment by examining how infrastructure in agricultural practical learning environment influences students’ interest and selection of agriculture as a field of study. Furthermore, it attempts to identify students\u27 perceptions of practical learning infrastructure as part of the ASPer UPM learning environment. This qualitative study collected data through the focus group interview using an interview questions instrument. The study found that students perceive the provision of infrastructure and equipment as not uniform, and the technology adopted is inadequate and only sufficient to help with basic work. The students also perceive the instructors’ expertise and specialisation as helping them understand the course content and the specialised locations are aligned with the learning content. The study found that students\u27 interest could be increased by changing the learning location and content, providing adequate, usable and conducive infrastructure and implementing clear teaching and practical learning procedures. At the same time, infrastructure can generate curiosity, provide early exposure to agriculture and change negative perceptions and interests to influence students to select agriculture as a field of study. Lastly, this study found an apparent relationship between Faculty of Agriculture cluster students\u27 selection of fields of study and their foundation course CGPA. These results can be utilised as guidance for agricultural education institutions to design a high-quality practical learning environment via enhanced infrastructure

Awareness and Acceptance Of Genetic Modified Food (GMF) Among The Malaysian Consumers
No full textThe halal industry is growing vigorously to cater the Muslim consumers in Malaysia. The acceptance, awareness and perception towards the genetic modified food (GMF) is still insufficient to fulfil the Malaysian market and expectantly plays a major role in a long period. The purpose of this paper is to fill the knowledge gap to the study of GMF conducted in Malaysia. Qualitative data were collected via open-ended interview with four participants from various background namely Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) researcher, P3, P4 and P1 by using single case and different site. All interviews were audio recorded, transcribed and analysed. Almost all participants familiar with the term genetic modified organism (GMO) or genetic modified food (GMF) which are two different entities but similar in biotechnology scope. Almost all participants were familiar with the term of genetic modified food. Since most of the participants came out with the science and biotechnology background, they perceived the GMF product but some of them did not trust of these products for various reasons. The participants agreed on the need for more information from a trusted and credible source that can easily access by the consumers. This study provides an in-depth insight into consumer’ awareness, perception and evaluation concerning the halalan toyyiban status of genetic modified food in Malaysia. The novelty of these finding could provide information for the biotechnology food industry to expand its market and develop its profitability and reliability to promo sustainable food production and consumption in the population
De delegado a romancista : representações da violência e figura policial nos romances de Joaquim Nogueira
No full textEste trabalho se debruça sobre o tema das representações sociais da violência e em torno da figura policial, com o objetivo de compreender como é formulada a representação da violência nos romances de Joaquim Nogueira, ex-delegado de polícia, de modo a identificar os nexos entre o modelo ficcional de policial e as representações acerca da violência por parte do autor. Os principais conceitos teóricos mobilizados foram representações da violência, identidade policial e mimese e, na composição do modelo teórico metodológico, que combinou análise dialética e análise interpretativa, foram utilizadas também as noções de figuração, para Auerbach, e de poder, para Foucault. O corpus de investigação foram os romances Informações sobre a Vítima (2002) e Vida Pregressa (2003), ambos analisados enquanto romances da violência, a partir dos elementos textuais presentes nos textos relacionando-os com a representação da realidade, da violência e a figura policial desenvolvidas pelo autor. Considerando a análise textual, bem como a análise das relações de violência (e de poder) apresentadas nos textos, juntamente com a construção individual e profissional de Venício, o narrador protagonista, percebeu-se que a figura policial estabelecida pelo autor é multifacetada, que não é nem a vivida pelo autor enquanto delegado de polícia, nem mera ficção. A figura policial desenvolvida por Nogueira, especialmente em Venício, é dual, posto que ora representa a instituição policial e, por isso, pode ser vista como universal; ora figura a instituição policial, pois transcende a realidade e motiva a reflexão do leitor para pensar a situação da instituição a partir de um cenário imaginário passível de veracidade.This paper focuses on the theme of social representations of violence and the police figure, with the aim of understanding how the representation of violence is formulated in the novels of Joaquim Nogueira, a former police chief, to identify the links between the fictional model of the police officer and the representations of violence proposed by the author. The main theoretical concepts mobilized were representations of violence, police identity and mimesis. In the composition of the theoretical methodological model, which combined dialectical analysis and interpretative analysis, also used the notions of figuration, for Auerbach, and power, for Foucault. The research corpus was the novels Informações sobre a Vítima (2002) and Vida Pregressa (2003), both analyzed as novels of violence, based on the textual elements present in the texts relating them to the representation of reality, representation of violence and the police figure developed by the author. Considering the textual analysis, as well as the analysis of the relations of violence (and power) presented in the texts, together with the individual and professional construction of Venício, the protagonist narrator, it was noticed that the police figure established by the author is multifaceted, it’s neither the one experienced by the author as a police delegate, nor mere fiction. The police figure developed by Nogueira, especially in Venício, is dual, sometimes it represents the police institution and, therefore, can be seen as universal; sometimes it figures the police institution, since it transcends reality and motivates the reader to reflect about the institution based on an imaginary scenario that can be seen as true
Ontologia e revelação: a filosofia no sistema teológico de Paul Tillich

Programa de Pós-graduação em FilosofiaEsta dissertação aborda a ontologia e a concepção de revelação do pensamento de Paul Johannes Oskar Tillich. O ponto de partida é o seu trabalho sistemático onde são focais as questões, Razão, Revelação, Ser e Deus. Segundo o autor, há duas questões fundamentais que envolvem o ser humano e a fé: o estado de existência e a revelação incondicional de Deus. Trata-se de articular as perguntas que surgem da situação de existência e da reposta divina que está dada de modo incondicional na revelação. O autor, para articular existência e revelação, estabelece o que ele denomina método de correlação, com o qual pretende tratar o problema existência e essência de um modo diferente das concepções filosóficas naturalistas e sobrenaturalistas de nossa tradição teísta. A ontologia ocupa um papel preponderante em seu sistema teológico ao atribuir a Deus a noção Ser-em-Si como questão implícita do Ser, e a noção Novo Ser ou Logos Encarnado, ao Cristo. Ser existente é estar limitado pelo Não-Ser, embora sabendo-se partícipe do Ser. Participar do Ser de forma essencial, segundo o autor investigado, importa perceber que santidade, fé, divino, demoníaco, queda, salvação são expressões que demandam uma ontologia e não somente questões morais como elas foram interpretadas pela perspectiva secular. A ontologia de seu sistema pretende traduzir a profundidade e o sentido da revelação ao crente moderno em uma época em que a fé foi "domesticada" e já não representa existencialmente uma questão última e incondicional para o ser humano. This dissertation approaches the ontology and the conception of the disclosure concept of the thought of Paul Johannes Oskar Tillich. The start point is his systematic work where are focused the Questions, Reason, Revelation, Being, and God. According to the author, there are two fundamental questions that compreehend the human being and the faith: the state of existence and the unconditional disclosure of God. It is dealt of articulating the questions that appear of the existence situation and the divine response that is given in an unconditional way in the disclosure. The author, to articulate existence and disclosure, establishes what he denominates method of correlation, with what he intends to treat the problem of existence and essence in a different way of the naturalists and sobrenaturalists phylosophic conceptions of our theist tradition. The ontology ocupies a preponderant role in its teological system in assigning to God the notion Be in Itself like an implicit question of being, and the notion New Be or Incarnate Logus, to the Christ. Being existent is to be limited by the not-being, although knowing itself participant of Being. Participate of the being in an essential way, according to the investigated author it is important to perceive that holiness, faith, divine, demoniac, fall, salvation are expressions that demand an ontology and not only moral questions like the ones compreehended by the secular perspective. The ontology of its system intend to translate the depth and the sense of disclosure of the modern believer in an epoch in what the faith was "domesticated" and yet does not represents existencially a last matter and unconditional to the human being
Development overview of Ro-Ro ships
No full textRazvoj Ro-Ro brodova traje u kontinuitetu već više od 180 godina. Svoj povijesni razvoj započinje u Škotskoj gdje se pojavio prvi trajekt koji prevozi Ro-Ro teret, u ovom slučaju željezničke vagone. Ro-Ro brodovi razvijaju se usporedno s integralnim i multimodalnim prijevozom jer su i oni sami dio ovog tipa transporta. U 60-im godinama prošlog stoljeća dolazi do uspostavljanja velikog broja kratkih linija na području Sjevernog i Baltičkog mora, koje se danas nastoji ponovno oživjeti. Prednosti Ro-Ro brodova u početku su bile vidljive na kraćim relacijama no naknadno ih pokazuju i dugim relacijama. Najniža visina troškova po jedinici tereta u usporedbi sa drugim sustavima kao prvenstvena prednost Ro-Ro tehnologije omogućena je dobrim prekrcajnim normama te se danas uspješno kombinira sa drugim tehnologijama. Isključiva namjena Ro-Ro brodova je prijevoz tereta na kotačima. U uvodnom dijelu rada autor analizira i interpretira te opisuje razvoj Ro-Ro brodova kroz pojedina povijesna razdoblja, a zatim opisuje suvremeni Ro-Ro brod i njegove osnovne karakteristike. U drugom dijelu rada autor provodi analizu prometa Ro-Ro brodova na Jadranu u posljednjih 5 godina. Vezano uz to autor nudi pojedine zaključke i prijedloge. U posljednjem dijelu rada (Zaključak) dana su zaključna razmatranja o temi.The development of Ro-Ro ships has been going on continuously for more than 180 years. Its historical development begun in Scotland where the first ferry carrying Ro-Ro cargo is primarily applied, and in this case railway wagons. Ro-Ro ships are being developed parallel with integrated and multimodal transport because they themselves are part of this type of transportation. In the 1960s, a large number of short lines were established in the North and Baltic Seas, which are now being revived. The advantages of Ro-Ro boats were initially visible on shorter distances, but later they also showed them on long distances. The lowest cost per unit of cargo compared to other systems as a primary advantage of ro - ro technology is provided by good transhipment standards and today is successfully combined with other technologies. The exclusive purpose of Ro-Ro boats is to transport cargo on wheels. In the introductory part of the paper, the author analyzes and interprets and describes the development of Ro-Ro boats through certain historical periods, and then describes the modern Ro-Ro ship and its basic characteristics. In the second part of the paper, the author analyzes the traffic of Ro-Ro boats in the Adriatic sea in the last 5 years. In this regard, the author offers some conclusions and suggestions.

Gilberto Freyre, uma perspectiva de processo civilizador brasileiro?
No full textPropomos neste trabalho uma aproximação teórico-metodológica entre Norbert Elias, por meio de sua sociologia configuracional e Gilberto Freyre tomando como objeto de análise o ensaio Casa Grande & Senzala (1933), onde por meio de uma pesquisa bibliográfica realizamos uma aproximação entre suas teorias sociais visando aprimorar fundamentos teóricos e condições explicativas da realidade social exposta no ensaio para demonstrar que Freyre nos apresenta e revela em Casa Grande & Senzala as configurações sociais que nos ajudam a pensar uma perspectiva de processo civilizador brasileiro, demonstrando as relações de interdependência entre europeus, ameríndios e negros africanos escravizados no contexto social da colônia brasileira. A partir dessa compreensão, nosso problema de pesquisa consistiu em aproximar a teoria sociológica de Gilberto Freyre sobre a formação do Brasil com a teoria do processo civilizador de Norbert Elias no intuito de mostrar que é possível “utilizar”, “ler” ou “traduzir” Casa-grande & Senzala por meio de uma abordagem civilizadora do país, propondo, assim, a possibilidade de pensar o ensaio freyreano a partir de um novo enfoque, aproximando seu relato da formação social e cultural do Brasil da teoria dos processos civilizadores elaborada pelo sociólogo alemão Norbert Elias, que buscou por meio da sociologia configuracional superar as dicotomias para alcançar uma multidisciplinaridade na observação dos fenômenos sociais de modo global, não ignorando, mas sim destacando as redes de interdependências recíprocas entre os indivíduos e suas sociedades. Por fim, procuramos destacar a influência alemã na obra de Gilberto Freyre que ao nosso ver contribuiu grandemente para suas formulações teóricas e metodológicas, que embora indiretas, nos ajudam a entender como suas obras possuem características destacadas de intelectuais alemães.We propose in this work a theoretical-methodological approach between Norbert Elias, through his figurational sociology, and Gilberto Freyre, through his essay Master and Slaves (1933). With a bibliographical research, we carried out an approximation between their social theories, aiming to improve theoretical grounds and explanatory conditions of the social reality exposed in Freyre’s essay, in order to demonstrate that, by considering the interdependence relations between Europeans, Amerindians and black Africans enslaved in the social context of the Brazilian colony, the author revels social figurations that help us to understand perspectives of the Brazilian civilizing process. Therefore, our research problem consisted in bringing together Gilberto Freyre's sociological theory about Brazil’s formation with Norbert Elias's theory of the civilizing process, in order to show that it is possible to "use", "read" or "translate" Master and Slaves through a civilizing approach to the country and proposing the possibility of thinking the Freyrean essay from a new understanding, bringing his narrative of the social and cultural formation of Brazil closer to the theory of civilizing processes developed by the German sociologist Norbert Elias. This author aimed through figurational sociology to overcome dichotomies and achieve multidisciplinarity in the observation of social phenomena in a global way, not ignoring, but rather highlighting, the networks of reciprocal interdependencies between individuals and their societies. Finally, we seek to highlight the German influence on the work of Gilberto Freyre, which, in our view, greatly contributed to his theoretical and methodological formulations, and, although in an indirect way, help us to understand how his works have characteristics of German intellectuals
Um estudo sobre erotismo e pornografia a partir da recepção crítica de O império dos sentidos no Brasil
No full textEsta monografia centra-se na recepção especializada do filme franco-japonês O Império dos Sentidos (1976), de Nagisa Oshima, no Brasil dos anos 80. Produzido durante a década de ouro do cinema pornográfico, O Império dos Sentidos foi o primeiro filme de arte da história do cinema a incorporar cenas de sexo explícitas e não simuladas. Ainda que compartilhando de elementos típicos da pornografia hardcore, foi imediatamente reconhecido como um filme de arte, e, portanto, erótico. A partir da análise de conteúdo de excertos críticos sobre o filme, extraídos de jornais e revistas de grande circulação nacional, a autora reflete sobre esta clássica dicotomia entre "erotismo" e "pornografia". Valendo-se da concepção de representação proposta por Stuart Hall, ao cabo desta monografia pretende-se demonstrar que, para além de possíveis diferenças em suas concepções estéticas, erotismo e pornografia são diferenciados entre si de acordo com critérios morais.This work focuses on the reception in Brazil in the 1980s of the franco-japanese film In the Realm of the Senses (1976), from Nagisa Oshima. Produced during the golden decade of pornographic cinema, In the Realm of the Senses was the first art film in cinema history which incorporated explicit and non-simulated sex scenes. While sharing typical elements of hardcore pornography, it was immediately recognized as an art film, and therefore, erotic. Based on the content analysis of critical excerpts about the film, extracted from newspapers and magazines of great national circulation, the author reflects on this classis dichotomy between “erotism” and “pornography”. Using the conception of representation proposed by Stuart Hall, this research intended to demonstrate that, in addition to possible differences in their aesthetic conceptions, eroticism and pornography are differentiated according to moral criteria
A geografia literária de Macunaíma : protocolos de leitura e a hegemonia do modernismo paulista (1922-1928)
No full textA construção da hegemonia do modernismo paulista deu-se pelo trabalho de consagração de intelectuais posteriores à Semana de 1922, o início oficial do movimento no Brasil; e graças ao empenho do grupo paulista, capitaneado por Mário de Andrade, em oficializar sua posição como a mais legítima representante do modernismo nacional. O exercício de autoconsagração foi necessário devido às fraturas que revelavam a existência de muitos movimentos modernistas no país envolvidos na disputa por um certificado de autenticidade. Em meio às dissidências, os vários grupos adotaram como estratégia de combate a formulação e a divulgação de protocolos de leitura que se revelaram eficazes no estabelecimento de convenções literárias em detrimento de outras. Dentre os protocolos destaco a importância do romance Macunaíma. Espaço de experimentações estilísticas, o livro serviu também como manifesto implícito das próprias posições estéticas e políticas do autor, arremate literário de um projeto intelectual elaborado ao longo dos anos.The construction of the São Paulo modernist hegemony was the result of the consecration work done by later intellectuals to the Week of 1922, the official start of the movement in Brazil; and thanks to the commitment of specific São Paulo group, led by Mario de Andrade, in his official position as the most legitimate representative of the national modernism. The exercise of self consecration was necessary due to fractures occurring within the movement itself, generating various groups involved in the dispute by a certificate of authenticity. Amid disagreements, various groups have adopted, as a strategy of combat, the formulation and dissemination of reading protocols that have proved effective to establish literary conventions over others. Among the protocols, I emphasize the importance of the novel Macunaíma: stylistic experimentation space, the book also served as implicit manifesto of aesthetic and political views of the author, literary final touch of an intellectual project developed over the years
