FARM SAFETY NET: SUBSIDIZED SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR U.S. FARMERS
A subsidized savings accounts program is being considered by USDA's Risk Management Agency to provide an income safety net to farmers. We argue that savings accounts would complement federal crop insurance program and other private risk management strategies that farmers routinely adopt to minimize income risk and hence offer a better safety net.Agricultural Finance,

Uranium distribution and mobility in the weathering zone of the Nisa deposit, Portugal
The Nisa deposit is the largest known uranium reserve in the country, and is hosted by metasediments of the Beiras Group, in the Alto Alentejo region, central Portugal. After almost two decades without significant studies, the current trend to seek improved knowledge of raw materials motivated the application of different surface geophysical and geochemical characterization methods, which proved to be a valuable exploration approach for this type of deposit. Detailed mapping in the experimental open pit showed the structural aspects controlling the mineralization. A radiometric survey of the deposit was carried out, providing a map of the main sites of mineralization. The U mineralization is of secondary origin, formed exclusively by uranyl phosphates that were formed during the development of a weathering profile. The mineralization occurs along schistosity planes, quartz veinlets and alteration zones, along a general trend N60°–80°W (approximately the same as S0) in association with iron oxyhydroxides, as demonstrated by both petrographic and geochemical data. These hydroxides, in addition to the geochemical characteristics of the host rocks, were key factors in the precipitation and trapping of dissolved uranyl ions.Depto. de Mineralogía y PetrologíaFac. de Ciencias GeológicasTRUEpu
Geochemistry of Boron and Incompatible elements in the Nisa-Alburquerque Granite
In the Peraluminous Nisa-Alburquerque granite we have study the Boron and incompatible elements (Rb,
Li, Cs, Be, Sn, U) contents. Despite scatering, these elements show an increase from monzogranites towards leucogranites and aplites. Leucogranites and aplites with roughly the same differentiation index show very variable contents in B and incompatible elements. We propose that variability in monzogranites could be due to inherited compositional hetereogenities from the protolith, whereas the high variability in leucogranites and aplites could be due to late magmatic proceses such as hydrothermalis
Characterization of the Lactococcus lactis Nisin A Operon Genes nisP, Encoding a Subtilisin-Like Serine Protease Involved in Precursor Processing, and nisR, Encoding a Regulatory Protein Involved in Nisin Biosynthesis
Biosynthesis of the lantibiotic peptide nisin by Lactococcus lactis NIZO R5 relies on the presence of the conjugative transposon Tn5276 in the chromosome. A 12-kb DNA fragment of Tn5276 including the nisA gene and about 10 kb of downstream DNA was cloned in L. lactis, resulting in the production of an extracellular nisin precursor peptide. This peptide reacted with antibodies against either nisin A or the synthetic leader peptide, suggesting that it consisted of a fully modified nisin with the nisin leader sequence still attached to it. This structure was confirmed by N-terminal sequencing and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of the purified peptide. Deletion studies showed that the nisR gene is essential for the production of this intermediate. The deduced amino acid sequence of the nisR gene product indicated that the protein belongs to the family of two-component regulators. The deduced amino acid sequence of NisP, the putative product of the gene upstream of nisR, showed an N-terminal signal sequence, a catalytic domain with a high degree of similarity to those of subtilisin-like serine proteases, and a putative C-terminal membrane anchor. Cell extracts of Escherichia coli overexpressing nisP were able to cleave the nisin precursor peptide, producing active, mature nisin. A similar activation was obtained with whole cells but not with membrane-free extracts of L. lactis strains carrying Tn5276 in which the nisA gene had been inactivated. The results indicate that the penultimate step in nisin biosynthesis is secretion of precursor nisin without cleavage of the leader peptide, whereas the last step is the cleavage of the leader peptide sequence from the fully maturated nisin peptide.
Autoregulation of Nisin Biosynthesis in Lactococcus lactis by Signal Transduction
The post-translationally modified, antimicrobial peptide nisin is secreted by strains of Lactococcus lactis that contain the chromosomally located nisin biosynthetic gene cluster nisABTCIPRKFEG. When a 4-base pair deletion is introduced into the structural nisA gene (ΔnisA), transcription of ΔnisA is abolished. Transcription of the ΔnisA gene is restored by adding subinhibitory amounts of nisin, nisin mutants, or nisin analogs to the culture medium, but not by the unmodified precursor peptide or by several other antimicrobial peptides. Upon disruption of the nisK gene, which encodes a putative sensor protein that belongs to the class of two-component regulators, transcription of ΔnisA was no longer inducible by nisin. Fusion of a nisA promoter fragment to the promoterless reporter gene gusA resulted in expression of gusA in L. lactis NZ9800 (ΔnisA) only upon induction with nisin species. The expression level of gusA was directly related to the amount of inducer that was added extracellularly. These results provide insight into a new mechanism of autoregulation through signal transduction in prokaryotes and demonstrate that antimicrobial peptides can exert a second function as signaling molecules.
The evolution of cultural and economic activities in the DKMT Euroregion
The Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisa (DKMT) Euroregion has its roots back to 1992, when Timiş and Csongrád counties began the first discussions for a cross-border cooperation. Till 1997 the Euroregion needed to develop its institutions for greater effectiveness, so the period 1992-1997 could be considered a background of fruitful public and scientific discussions. The study is focused on three levels of developments: institutional-political, cultural and economical. It is a large reflection on the projects of which DKMT should profit in the future as well as on the economic potential of the Euroregion. The recent developments and the different stages of integration to the EU are also matters of discussions.Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisa Euroregion; institutional frame; economic development.

To prove it through the science of the Qur'an i.e. tikra ̅r, applying the rule of tikra ̅r to one of the repetition recitations in the letter an-Nisa ̅.′ i.e. the pronunciation “Lilla ̅hi ma ̅ fi ̅ as-sama ̅wa ̅ti wa ma ̅ fi ̅ al-arḍ”found six times in the categories tikra ̅r al-lafẓ wa al-ma’na and tikra ̅r bi al-ma’na du ̅na al-lafẓ. This research uses a type of library research, for data analysis the author uses content analysis and descriptive analytics and data collection techniques carried out mauḍ, u.'i,. The result was that this recitation was repetitioned six times in the letter an-Nisa ̅′. Judging from the rules of tikra ̅r, the pronunciations have different relationships, even the adjacent repetitions of the pronunciation do not have the same context, the slight differences in pronunciation give rise to different contexts as well. Mufassiri ̅n explained the specificity of absolute possession to Allah Almighty, whatever is hidden and visible, or objects or beings that are in every layer of heaven and earth. No allies and no dependence on any creature. So that with HIS power it is obligatory to submit and obey. The purpose of these repetitions is as a warning of the power of Allah SWT, affirmation or strengthening of the divine position that is doubted by the person who disobeys and the promise of Allah SWT will be reciprocated for all his deeds.
