Modeling Online User Behavior
A framework for online user behavior soft modeling is presented in this work. Behavior models of users in dynamic virtual environments has been described in the literature in terms of timed transition automata which can be compiled in a planning domain. The extended notion of soft timed transition automata is proposed in order to recognize a larger class of user histories. The notion of deviation from the user model allows to assess and evaluate in real time the dynamic behavior of users acting in virtual environments, such as e-learning and e-business platforms. The timed automata model allows to describe virtually infinite sequences of user actions subject to temporal constraints, while soft measures allows to assess recognition of behaviors by evaluating the amount of temporal deviation, additional or omitted actions contained in an observed behavior The proposed model allow the partial recognition of user history also when the observed actions only partially meets the given behavior model constraints. This approach is more realistic for real time user support systems, with respect to standard boolean model recognition, when more than one user model is potentially available the amount of deviation from the models can be used as guide to generate the system support by anticipation, projection and other known techniques. Experiments based on logs from an e-learning platforms and plan compilation of the soft timed automaton shows the expressivity of the proposed model
Does Women’s Participation in Politics Matter for Economic Development in OIC-15? An Islamic Perspective
This study aims to empirically determine and analyze the role of women\u27s participation in politics, female population growth, trade balance, and women\u27s labor force participation in promoting economic development across 15 OIC countries during the 2006-2017 period, both in short- and long-run from an Islamic perspective. Using the Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method, this study found that, in the short term, trade balance and women\u27s labor force participation have promoted Islamic economic development. In contrast, women\u27s participation has a negative effect on the economic development of OIC countries. In the long term, on the other hand, all variables have promoted Islamic economic development in OIC countries, except for the trade balance variable. These findings suggest that coordination and synergy for strengthening economic development among OIC countries need to be enhanced, focusing on women\u27s role in politics, labor force, quality of population, and economic dimensions.JEL Classification: C33, F16, J16, O11, P48Ramdayani, S., Majid, M. Comparative study between steel and timber roof trusses for medium span building / Che Suriani Che Said
Roof area is just a small part of the total surface. Roof must be strong and stable and these are provided by the structure of the roof itself and a major consideration in the design and choice of the structure which is the span. The roof must be sufficiently stiff to carry its own weight, together with loads resulting from the effects of wind and possible live load. The general form of the building as a whole and its function may have an important bearing on the choice of the type of roof structure. This research is conducted to identify what is the suitable material for roof trusses for medium span building, either steel or timber. Medium span are classified between 7.60m to 24.40m.The important factors that must be considered before choosing the types of materials are include many factors. The Comparative Study between Steel and Timber Roof Trusses for Medium Span building is highlighted on design, weight ratio, cost, assembly/installation, fabrication (IBS) fire requirement (UBBL) and jointing. The research is done through the distribution of 40 questionnaires to Roofing Contractors, Roofing Manufacturers, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, CIDB Officers and Quality Control Assistants. Besides that, the data and information were also gathered from interviews of persons with years of experience on roof trusses. Furthermore, the author also selected four case studies about steel and timber roof trusses to achieve the objectives of this research to identify which type of roof trusses suitable and effective for medium span buildings. Finally, the analysis data from the methodology research found that steel roof trusses is suitable for medium span building compared to with timber roof trusses because many advantages and benefits for construction industry today
The study of stemming algorithm on Malay words that begin with alphabets P, Q, Y, and Z from the translated Al-Quran / Suriani Mat
This thesis concerns a Malay language documents retrieval system. Stemming algorithm, Malay Quran translated documents and root dictionaries are used in order to complete this study. The performance of a Malay stemming algorithm is tested based on words beginning with letter 'p', 'q', 'y' and 'z', using 5 experiments. First experiment uses the original set of data collections. In second experiment, new words are added in the dictionary and the total value for i ' , 'm', 'p', 'q', 'y' and 'z' are modified in the header file "dcvarnew.h". Other than that, affixes rule format in file "rule.txt" are added and misspell words are corrected. Third, the locations of rules in file "rule.txt" are changed. For fourth experiment, words that have more than one root, old spelling words and spoken word are deleted from the dictionary. After the modification, the total value for 'k', 'm\ 'n' and 'p' in header file "dcvarnew.h" are corrected again. Otherwise, new code is added into module 'ubahejaan'. In fifth experiment, the spoken word is deleted from the dictionary and the total value for 'p' in file "dcvarnew.h" is corrected. Then alternative rule to solve the words pengawal, pengawalan and perangan is carried out. The objective of this project is achieved when the best order of the rules to use to stem the words that beginning with p', 'q', 'y' and 'z' is met. This involves the use of two combinations simultaneously such as the pair combination of 1234 as primary combinations and 3124 as the secondary. First, all the words used the 1234 combination, and if the program encountered that the words cannot be solved correctly, combination will be shifted to the secondary combination that is 3124 combination. These experiments can serves as a benchmark for future research in Malay language
Bayesian model selection using exact and approximated posterior probabilities with applications to Star Data
This research consists of two parts. The first part examines the posterior probability integrals for a family of linear models which arises from the work of Hart, Koen and Lombard (2003). Applying Laplace's method to these integrals is not entirely straightforward. One of the requirements is to analyze the asymptotic behavior of the information matrices as the sample size tends to infinity. This requires a number of analytic tricks, including viewing our covariance matrices as tending to differential operators. The use of differential operators and their Green's functions can provide a convenient and systematic method to asymptotically invert the covariance matrices. Once we have found the asymptotic behavior of the information matrices, we will see that in most cases BIC provides a reasonable approximation to the log of the posterior probability and Laplace's method gives more terms in the expansion and hence provides a slightly better approximation. In other cases, a number of pathologies will arise. We will see that in one case, BIC does not provide an asymptotically consistent estimate of the posterior probability; however, the more general Laplace's method will provide such an estimate. In another case, we will see that a naive application of Laplace's method will give a misleading answer and Laplace's method must be adapted to give the correct answer. The second part uses numerical methods to compute the "exact" posterior probabilities and compare them to the approximations arising from BIC and Laplace's method
RE-TREATMENT WITH INTERFERON-BETA OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS C VIRUS INFECTION
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of interferon-beta (IFN-beta) in the re-treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C who did not respond to IFN-alpha monotherapy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty patients (24 men and six women; mean age, 41 +/- 13 (SD) years; range, 23-62 years), with chronic hepatitis C that was non-responsive to a standard course of IFN-alpha therapy, were re-treated with recombinant human IFN-beta-1a. All patients received IFN-beta, 12 MIU subcutaneously, three times weekly for 3 months, after which time patients' responses were evaluated. Responders (normal alanine aminotransferase, and negative for serum hepatitis C virus RNA) continued to receive IFN-beta, 12 MIU, for a further 3 months. Non-responders had their dose increased to 18 MIU for the remaining 3 months of treatment. After 6 months of treatment, therapy was stopped and patients were followed-up for a further 6 months.
RESULTS: Overall, six (20%) of the 30 patients exhibited a response at the end of treatment. One patient (3.3%) maintained a sustained virological response at the end of post-treatment follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with recombinant IFN-beta, at doses of up to 18 MIU for 6 months, is safe and well tolerated. However, the results of the trial do not support the use of IFN-beta monotherapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C that is resistant to IFN-alpha
