Model for democratisation of the contents hosted in MOOCs
Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) have emerged as a new educational tool in higher education, based on gratuity, massiveness and ubiquity. Essentially they suggest an evolution of the Open Learning Movement based on principles of reusing, revising, remixing and redistributing open educational resources (OER). However, in contrast with the content of OERs, content hosed in MOOCs tends to be paywalled and copyrighted, which restricts its reuse. Philosophically, the main problem with MOOCs is the inaccessibility and inadaptability of their resources, challenging democratic open access to knowledge. A number of authors and organisations consider it an ultimate necessity to open up MOOC resources. Therefore in this paper three strategies to open up MOOC contents are proposed: to deposit the materials in repositories of OER (ROER) as individual objects, to archive them in ROER in data packages as learning units or to convert them into OpenCourseWare (OCW) as self-taught courses

Cultural references constitute one of the main arguments to support untranslatability. However, the prize of the Cervantes Institute for Literary Translation awarded to Ewa Zalewska for translation of Soldados de Salamina proved translation skeptics wrong again. The story by Javier Cercas is deeply set in the social and historical context of Spain; therefore, it could be an example of a very demanding book with regard to the translation of cultural references. The author’s strong attachment to the historical memory requires making endless decisions concerning faithfulness to the author and/or to a potential reader of the translation from the translator. The article analyzes translation techniques used by Ewa Zalewska, with the special consideration of cultural references specific for the Spanish Civil Wa
Opening teaching landscapes: The importance of quality assurance in the delivery of open educational resources
Scholars are increasingly being asked to share teaching materials, publish in open access journals, network in social media, and reuse open educational resources (OER). The theoretical benefits of Open Educational Practices (OEP) have become understood in the academic community but thus far, the use of OER has not been rapidly adopted. We aim to understand the challenges academics face with in attempting to adopt OEP, and identify whether these are related to or stem from the functionalities afforded by current repositories of OER (ROER). By understanding what academics and experts consider good practices, we can develop guidelines for quality in the development of ROER. In this article we present the findings from a study surveying academics using OER and experts who develop and/or work with ROER. We conclude by suggesting a framework to enhance the development and quality of ROER
Physico-mechanical properties of chitosan films with carvacrol and grape seed extract
The physico-mechanical properties of 3 films composed by carvacrol, grape seed extract (GSE) and chitosan in different proportions were studied. The films, prepared by solvent casting technique with the following compositions of the casting solutions in carvacrol, GSE and chitosan: film-1: 9.6 ppm–684 ppm–1.25% w/v, film-2: 60 ppm–400 ppm–1.2% w/v and film-3: 90 ppm–160 ppm–1.24% w/v and were compared to a control (1.25% w/v chitosan) film. Mechanical, structural, barrier and colour properties of the films were evaluated. Film-3 presented the lowest water vapour and carbon dioxide permeabilities (WVP and CO2P) and tensile strength (TS) values and the highest oxygen permeability (O2P), whereas film-1 presented the highest water content and the lowest crystallinity, CO2P, TS and luminosity. These results suggest that in the range studied, carvacrol and GSE affect the film structure and its mechanicalproperties due to hydrophilic (GSE) and hydrophobic (carvacrol) compounds. This work will help the development of edible films, based on physico-mechanicalproperties, contributing to food preservation and shelf-life extension. The author Javiera F. Non-ohmic tissue conduction in cardiac electrophysiology: Upscaling the non-linear voltage-dependent conductance of gap junctions
Gap junctions are key mediators of intercellular communication in cardiac tissue, and their function is vital to sustaining normal cardiac electrical activity. Conduction through gap junctions strongly depends on the hemichannel arrangement and transjunctional voltage, rendering the intercellular conductance highly non-Ohmic, particularly under steady-state regimes of conduction. Despite this marked non-linear behavior, current tissue-level models of cardiac conduction are rooted in the assumption that gap-junctions conductance is constant (Ohmic), which results in inaccurate predictions of electrical propagation, particularly in the low junctional-coupling regime observed under pathological conditions. In this work, we present a novel non-Ohmic homogenization model (NOHM) of cardiac conduction that is suitable to tissue-scale simulations. Using non-linear homogenization theory, we develop a conductivity model that seamlessly upscales the voltage-dependent conductance of gap junctions, without the need of explicitly modeling gap junctions. The NOHM model allows for the simulation of electrical propagation in tissue-level cardiac domains that accurately resemble that of cell-based microscopic models for a wide range of junctional coupling scenarios, recovering key conduction features at a fraction of the computational complexity. A unique feature of the NOHM model is the possibility of upscaling the response of non-symmetric gap-junction conductance distributions, which result in conduction velocities that strongly depend on the direction of propagation, thus allowing to model the normal and retrograde conduction observed in certain regions of the heart. We envision that the NOHM model will enable organ-level simulations that are informed by sub- and inter-cellular mechanisms, delivering an accurate and predictive in-silico tool for understanding the heart function.

Abstract:
This aims of this article is to analize the play Clase (2008) by Guillermo Calderón, based on the pedagogical enunciation work that the dramaturgy performs in order to establish a generational dialogue between teacher and student. The author proposes a methodology focused on a proposal of vocal naturalization that puts the word as the protagonist of the scene, when addressing the student revolts of 2006 in Chile. From this fact, Calderón will carry out a memorial review exercise that puts postdictatorial nostalgia in tension with the current material consumption conditions.

Headway variability in public transport: A review of metrics, determinants, effects for quality of service and control strategies
The most relevant issues related to headway variability in public transport planning, operations and quality of service are reviewed in this paper. We discuss the causes and consequences of headway variability, the alternative metrics that have been proposed to measure it, the preventive and reactive strategies to control headway variability in both research and practice, including the role of drivers and of present and future technology, and how service provision contracts might deal with headway variability through metrics and financial incentives. The most influential elements that explain headway variability along a route are the irregularity at which vehicles are dispatched, the scheduled frequency, the distance travelled or route length, the passenger demand and associated dwell times, and the number of stops. We conclude that there is a large gap between the state-of-the-art and the state-of-practice in terms of identification of headway variability issues, as well as in the development of mitigation and control measures. It is therefore paramount that future research will contribute to closing this gap by addressing organisational, contractual and technological barriers in the implementation of measures aimed at mitigating headway variability in public transport services.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Transport and Plannin
A tale of two mistletoes: phenology and fauna associated with two sympatric species
Mistletoes are parasitic plants that largely rely on animals for pollination and seed dispersal but establish complex interactions with their host plants. Mistletoes are considered keystone species in forest ecosystems as they facilitate several interactions. We studied the fauna associated with two sympatric mistletoe species (Tristerix corymbosus and Desmaria mutabilis) from the temperate rainforests of southern Chile. We set 40 camera traps from November 2021 to May 2022 to monitor the main pollinator (the hummingbird Sephanoides sephaniodes), the main seed disperser (the arboreal marsupial Dromiciops bozinovici), and other animals (birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects). We compared fauna associated with T. corymbosus between spring and summer-fall periods and between T. corymbosus and D. mutabilis during summer-fall. Species composition associated with T. corymbosus showed a significant temporal variation, mainly explained by S. sephaniodes and D. bozinovici, which are more abundant in the summer-fall period. We found that animal species composition differences between mistletoe species were mainly explained by S. sephaniodes, D. bozinovici, and insects. While T. corymbosus was mainly pollinated by hummingbirds, insects frequently visited D. mutabilis flowers. Although both mistletoes have many similarities, they also have some phenology differences that affect their associations with animals, potentially influencing ecological processes. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. The image of post-modern society in Javier María's novel
The aim of this thesis is to explore what postmodern features can be found in the work of Javier Marías, using his three novels, All Souls, A Hearth So White, Tomorrow in the Battle Think on Me. Specifically, it analyses the narrator and the main characters. Then, it examines the most important themes the author deals with in his novels, such as interpersonal relationships, criticism of statesmen, and the theme of truth and knowledge.Cílem této práce je zkoumat, jaké postmoderní rysy můžeme najít v tvorbě Javiera Maríase, a to za pomoci jeho tří románů, Všechny duše, Srdce tak bílé, a Vzpomínej na mě zítra při bitvě. Konkrétně analyzuje vypravěče a hlavní postavy. Poté zkoumá nejdůležitější témata, jakými se autor ve svých románech zabývá, jako jsou mezilidské vztahy, kritika státníků a téma pravdy a vědění.Ústav románských studiíInstitute of Romance StudiesFaculty of ArtsFilozofická fakult
