Doctor Ivan Lutsenko: myths and facts
Based on the data from the archives, which the author is first to introduce to the scientific circulation, and a critical analysis of the literature, we observe the life’s journey of a medical doctor Ivan Mitrofanovich Lutsenko (1864–1919), whom history presents as an active figure in the epoch of the civil war in Ukraine. The author polemicizes with the historians, who see Lutsenko as a hero, “a new kind of Ukrainian”, and substantiates a point of view according to which, I. M. Lutsenko is an ultranationalist, Russophobe and an anti-Semite

Higher Education is both oppressive and oppressed in its current state! During the last decade, in the increasing frequency of my academic travels and in the events of my own professional trajectory, I have been facing those negative aspects of the academic life, over and over again. In different countries, I have met PhD students oppressed by the pressure to strictly follow the methodological and theoretical framework of analysis of their supervisors. I have witnessed their passionate striving for the intellectual right of exploring new ways of doing research. I have seen them systematically downsized by the rigid system of rules in place almost everywhere in order to have their dissertations accepted. The same form of oppression is in place when one wants to have her articles published. The existing monological and evidence-based way to define what is “scientifically relevant” is the major oppressive force against the knowledge construction
Cossack idea in activities of leader of the Ukrainian national movement Ivan Lutsenko
The purpose of this article is to study the activities of Ivan Mitrofanovich Lutsenko (1863–1919) about his activities, which were aimed at popularizing the history of the Ukrainian Cossacks, the struggle for the spread of the Cossack worldview and spiritual values. I seek to deepen the study of this issue, based on previous research. The corresponding image of I. Lutsenko was reflected in the first essays-memoirs about him, the authors of which were his friends. G. Zlenko, T. Vintskovsky, V. Lobodaev and others wrote about I. Lutsenko as an adherent of the Cossack idea. I. Lutsenko was born in Poltava region in a family that probably had Cossack roots. In 1908, the first Cossack text by I. Lutsenko was published in the Kyiv newspaper Rada, which had not yet been taken into account by his biographers, including us. The Odessa doctor's note was devoted to the issue of P. Polubotko's treasures, which was relevant in Ukraine in the early twentieth century and then in the 1990s. The thesis about the purpose of these treasures caused doubts in I. Lutsenko, but instead he denied the opinion of D. Yavornytsky that this story is a fabrication. The apogee of the realization of these ideas precisely because of the idea of the revival of the Cossack ethos fell on the period of the Great War and the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921. Many sources and memoirs reflect the contribution of I. Lutsenko during the Ukrainian revolution in the formation of detachments of free Cossacks. I. Lutsenko zealously undertook to implement the decision of the General Cossack Council on the organization of free Cossacks, especially in the regions that still "breathed" the Cossack history and traditions: Katerynoslav, Poltava, Kherson. I. Lutsenko founded and headed the section of free Cossacks at the Odesa Ukrainian Military Council. I. Lutsenko's efforts aimed at forming the neo-Cossack idea and movement were also embodied in his writing of a number of articles on relevant topics, which were published in the Odesa editions of 1917–1918. The basis of the conceptual vision of the doctor of the Ukrainian Cossacks was antiquity and longevity, confidence that historical traditions are the foundation of modernity. He traces the origins of the Cossacks to the times of Russia, the prince's wife and the viche tradition. I. Lutsenko portrayed the social system of the Zaporizhzhya Sich in absolutely ideal tones as the embodiment of the socialist and democratic ideals that humanity dreams of. I. Lutsenko's belief in the success of the revival of the Cossacks was based on his belief in the organic nature of this idea for the Ukrainian people and its immortality. I. Lutsenko considered the hope of external support instead of belief in the strength of his own people to be a tragic historical mistake of Ukrainians. Thus, we can conclude that in general I. Lutsenko's activity was the development of populist traditions of perception of the Cossacks, but in the extreme conditions of the revolution he was one of the few people in the south of Ukraine who modernized this tradition, laid the foundation for the future state vision of the Cossack phenomenon

On the issue of building an effective organizational structure of Russian corporations
In modern conditions under the influence of difficult factors of the external environment the behaviour of the Russian corporations changes that in turn demands the change of their organizational structure. The structure of corporation has to be flexible and adaptive, quickly be reconstructed and adapt to requirements of both the external and internal environment. In the economic practice of the Russian corporations' other situation which is caused by various reasons which aren’t allowing to consider changes in the external environment and as appropriate to change organizational structure is traced. Many domestic scientists investigated features of organizational structures of the Russian companies, applying the system approach allowing to consider the behaviour of corporations in general as the system in the researchers. Therefore in this article practical questions of the creation of organizational structures of the Russian corporations as the schematical display of organizational structure of any vertically integrated oil company gives information on the system of submission and a taxonomy and also on the place of key divisions and services in a structure of corporation are considered. Besides such scheme doesn’t reflect the real situation in the corporation, her administrative processes and the real relations of submission and a taxonomy. In this regard in article shortcomings of organizational structures on the example of the vertically integrated oil companies which are bulky and not rational, and, therefore, not flexible in corporate management, excessive bureaucratization and concentration on control functions that leads to duplication of production and marketing structures are revealed. A specific place in the article is held by the development of the strategy of corporation depending on its structure. Not the flexible and irrational structure of the Russian corporations doesn’t allow them to realize strategy and plans as they are hostages of the structure

Detection and recognition of consumer goods in images based on convolutional neural networks
Software Engineering Chair
Scientific supervisor: prof. Andrey Terekhov
In this work we study the problem of detection and recognition of goods (specifically drinks) in photos of shop counters. We propose a hybrid approach to beverage detection combining histograms of oriented gradients and convolutional neural networks. Benefiting from specifics of the problem, the algorithm outperforms known general purpose methods in terms of accuracy.
Neural networks that recognize certain types of beverages were designed and trained.

Vertical Structure of the Milky Way Disk with Gaia DR3
Using a complete sample of about 330,000 dwarf stars, well measured by Gaia DR3, limited to the galactic north and south solid angles (Formula presented.) and up to a vertical distance of 2 kpc, we analyze the vertical structure of the Milky Way stellar disks, based on projected tangential velocities. From selected subsamples dominated by their corresponding population, we obtain the thin and thick disk scale heights as (Formula presented.) pc and (Formula presented.) pc, respectively. Then from the simultaneous fitting of the sum of two populations over the whole sample, assuming these scale heights, we estimate the thick-to-thin disk number density ratio at the galactic plane to be (Formula presented.), which is consistent with a previous result by the authors: in the galactic plane there is a significant number of thick disk stars, possibly as many as thin disk ones, which also points to the existence of more thick disk stars than generally thought. The overall fit does not closely follow the data for (Formula presented.) pc and points to the presence of more stars beyond the thin disk that cannot be accounted for by the two-disk model
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
