Heat Transfer Analysis and Modeling for a Coaxial Solar Collector in a Domestic Cogeneration System

    No full text
The need for an efficient energy system in domestic houses push the research toward innovative cogeneration system, which can meets the needs for electricity, heating and cooling power. A good electrical conversion is achieved from an energy source when its temperature is over 250 °C. Both conventional and renewable sources can be used to run a domestic cogenerative system; they can be in the form of fossil fuels, biomass and solar energy. For the system here analysed a concentrating solar collectors provide hot diathermic at 300 °C, which is then employed to run a cogenerative Stirling engine. The engine generates electricity and hot water for heating and sanitary purpose, by exploiting the cooling power from the engine’s cold heat exchanger. The overall energy efficiency for this system can be up to 70%

Endogenous selection into single and coauthorships by surname initials in economics and management

    No full text
Many prior studies suggest that alphabetic ordering confers professional advantages on authors with earlier surname initials. However, these studies assume that authors select into coauthorships without regard to the incentives identified. We consider the alternative and develop a model of endogenous selection into single and coauthorships for economics, which uses alphabetical ordering. We then tested it with authorship data from economics, with management (which does not use alphabetical ordering) as a benchmark. We predicted that lower "quality" authors with earlier surnames would be less desirable as coauthors, while higher quality authors with later surnames would have a lower desire to coauthor. Both types of authors are therefore more likely to single- author. Furthermore, higher quality authors with earlier surnames should have more and better coauthoring options. Consistent with our predictions, we found citation ranks were increasing on surnames for single-authored works and decreasing for coauthored in economics, both absolutely and compared to management. Also as predicted, this effect is driven by lower-tier journals in which there is likely a thinner market for coauthors. Furthermore, comparing citation ranks of first-authors of alphabetical and nonalphabetical papers shows that the "larger share" effect of being first is dominated by the "smaller pie" effect of selection from second authors who will accept a smaller share

Facts or Ideology: What Determines the Results of Econometric Estimates of the Deterrence Effect of Death Penalty?

Provided that the literature on th e deterrent effect of capital punishment is overall inconclu- sive, the fact that individual au thors persistently claim to have found solid evidence in one or the other direction raises two questions. Firstly, what are the causes for these different results? Do different data samples, estimation methods or time periods lead to different results or do the outcomes merely reflect prior convictions of the authors? Secondly, to what extent is it possible to derive such diverg ing results by slightly changing the specification of the test equations without violating scient ific standards? After a survey of the over forty reviews of this literature available so far, we perform a meta-analysis of 102 deterrence studies published between 1975 and 2011. The profession of the author turns out to be the only statistically sig- nificant explanatory variable: Economists claim significantly more often to have found a sig- nificant deterrence effect than members of law or other social scienc e departments. Further- more, using a panel data set of U.S. states, we show how easy it is to derive contradictory results by employing alternative specifications. T hus, our results reinforce the claim that the empirical evidence presented to date is by far too fragile in order to base political decisions on it

Damages Related to Profit Distribution in Café Crema Operational Cooperation Agreement Between Businesses & Business Partners (Study in Medan City)

    No full text
Agreements or contracts are growing rapidly today as a logical consequence of the development of business cooperation between business actors. Even in business practice, there is a growing understanding that business cooperation must be carried out in writing. A written contract or agreement is the basis for the parties' business actors to conduct a prosecution if one of the parties does not carry out what has been agreed in a contract or agreement. There are problems when one party does not carry out the obligations as agreed in the agreement which brings both material and immaterial losses to the other party. The research method used by the author is library and field research. The author in this research uses primary data in the form of interviews and secondary data in the form of books, journals, documents, and tertiary data in the form of encyclopedias and dictionaries. In addition, it uses legal materials in the form of laws and regulations. Based on the results of the research, the Café Crema Operational cooperation agreement in Medan City is underhand, but can actually bind the parties and have legal certainty if it fulfills the conditions as stipulated in the Civil Code. Problem solving if one of the parties defaults and the other party is harmed can be resolved either in non-litigation (outside the court) or litigation (in court) to obtain legal certainty, but the problem solving for this default the parties agreed to choose a negotiated way for the operational costs of Café Crema in Medan City choosing a family way peacefully.97 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

From run-time reconfigurable coarse-grain arrays to application-specific accelerator design

    No full text
This Thesis focuses on the acceleration of different applications using a run-time reconfigurable array. In the cases under study, the author analyzes the main causes of performance degradation, which are classified as external and internal causes. The author proposes different solutions to reduce the impact of external causes. The adoption of mechanisms to reduce the external overheads give improvements of 10X in average. The logic to reduce the communication overhead occupies 0.6% of the total area but gives a speed-up of 15X for the transfer speed and 3X reduction of the overall cost of the transfers. The new reconfiguration infrastructure gives an 8% improvement for the maximum working frequency. The dynamic reconfiguration allows to hide the cost of reconfiguration behind the CREMA processing activity. The same consideration applies for the control operations. In addition the author considers the internal causes of performance degradation and proposes a new model that can be easily adapted to a chosen application. For this purpose the author presents a template called CREMA, that can be tailored to the application requirements, but keeps the possibility to share its internal resources using run-time reconfiguration. This new model can be used as a method to realize application-specific accelerators. The new design presents an application-specific accelerator that is 3X-4.5X smaller than the previous general-purpose device and 1.5X-5X faster. Mapping of SDR kernels shows figures that approach the real-time specifications

Analisis Pengkondisian Fitur log-f0 CWT Emosi Netral ke Marah dan Sedih Menggunakan Metode Convolutional Autoencoder dan Seq2Seq

    No full text
================================================================================================================================= In this thesis, the author designs a specific deep learning architecture to condition angry and sad intonations from neutral emotions. To train the architecture, the author uses the Emotional Speech Database, which provides raw data in the form of labeled voice recordings that are specifically required by the author. Using the available data, the author then performs feature extraction of log-f0 using Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) as an intonation representation. The extracted features are then viewed as either sequence-based data or image-based data if modifications are applied. Based on the nature of this data, the author proposes Seq2Seq and Convolutional Autoencoder architectures for training. Additionally, the author develops a Speech Emotion Recognition tool to measure the performance of emotion conditioning. All trained architectures are then tested on three datasets: ESD,RAVDESS, and CREMA-D, to evaluate the performance and generalization capability of the architectures. The test results demonstrate that, in terms of performance and generalization, the Seq2Seq architecture outperforms the Convolutional Autoencoder

    Calixtlahuaca: Estado de México

    No full text
