Rich, Sturmian, and trapezoidal words
In this paper we explore various interconnections between rich words, Sturmian words, and trapezoidal words. Rich words, first introduced by the second and third authors together with J. Justin and S. Widmer, constitute a new class of finite and infinite words characterized by having the maximal number of palindromic factors. Every finite Sturmian word is rich, but not conversely. Trapezoidal words were first introduced by the first author in studying the behavior of the subword complexity of finite Sturmian words. Unfortunately this property does not characterize finite Sturmian words. In this note we show that the only trapezoidal palindromes are Sturmian. More generally we show that Sturmian palindromes can be characterized either in terms of their subword complexity (the trapezoidal property) or in terms of their palindromic complexity. We also obtain a similar characterization of rich palindromes in terms of a relation between palindromic complexity and subword complexity

Sounds, voices and codes from the twentieth century. The critical editing of music at Mirage
The traditional history of sound is the history of musical instruments, the anatomy of vocal and hearing systems, musical gestures, well‐established theories in treatises and its written notation codes. Can we safely say that more than 140 years of sound recording have managed to transform this historical background? And to what extent did sound recording influence the future of music? The invention of the phonograph led to the creation of a history of sound events as well, which is examined in this book from a specific perspective: how is musical publishing effected when sound becomes a document, when it enters into public or private archives, becomes part of a catalog and it can be preserved, analyzed and re‐edited. But there’s more. This book also looks at the history of music. The latter has also changed because recording has affected performers and composers, creating new audiences and new repertories. This book contains contributions from researchers and Ph.D. students who conducted their research at MIRAGE

A relativistic positioning system exploiting pulsating sources for navigation across the Solar System and beyond
We introduce an operational approach to the use of pulsating sources, located at spatial infinity, for defining a relativistic positioning and navigation system, based on the use of null four-vectors in a flatMinkowskian spacetime. We describe our approach and discuss the validity of it and of the other approximations we have considered in actual physical situations. As a prototypical case, we show how pulsars can be used to define such a positioning system: the reception of the pulses for a set of different sources whose positions in the sky and periods are assumed to be known allows the determination of the user's coordinates and spacetime trajectory, in the reference frame where the sources are at rest. In order to confirm the viability of the method, we consider an application example reconstructing the world-line of an idealized Earth in the reference frame of distant pulsars: in particular we have simulated the arrival times of the signals fromfour pulsars at the location of the Parkes radiotelescope in Australia. After pointing out the simplifications we have made, we discuss the accuracy of the method. Eventually, we suggest that the method could actually be used for navigation across the Solar System and be based on artificial sources, rather than pulsar
The regeneration of the electronic part of Jour, Contre‐jour by Gérard Grisey
When MIRAGE was asked to restore the electronic part of Jour, Contre‐jour by Gérard Grisey this composition had virtually disappeared from the scenes. Due to the mixed nature of the composition during our work we were faced with two issues: the first associated with the very bad preservation state of the two magnetic tapes owned by the publisher: chemical‐physical corruption processes had jeopardized readability and quality of the recorded signal. The second issue pertains to the interpretation of the tape/score relationships. e presence of misalignments in respect of the score made all the 4‐track copies available unsuitable for publishing purposes.
Grisey had completed an extraordinary synthesis whose re‐editing required a long and complex path, considering first of all the genesis of this work. The work completed on Jour, Contre‐jour highlighted the importance of the music analysis not only in order to better understand and perform the work, but also as a guide for critical editing; it also restated the role of audio restoration as analytical tool

The history of the Romano famili and "Angelo, tyran de Padoue" by Victor Hugo.
Victor Hugo, in his play Angelo, tyran de Padue, embroiders three different historical epochs: the first decades of the 19th century, contemporary with him; the middle of the 16th century, chosen for the unfolding of the dramatic action; and the late Middle Ages evoked by the main characters in the story. However, the historical and purely romantic interest in the medieval period takes on primary importance in this work. Of the many northern Italian lineages named by the author in the work, one in particular seems to be truly symbolic. It was particularly interesting to understand how the history of the da Romano family forms the core of the dramaturgical construction. Ezzelino III and Cunizza da Romano are elevated to emblems of romantic poetics and become functional to the author's political and social message
