The Author’s Modality and Sctratificational Structure of a Literary Text in Modern English

No full text
Any literary text irrespective of its genre or trend represents a unique and aesthetic image of the world, created by the author according to his communicative intention and his subjective modality. Hence, the subjective is the organizing axis of a literary work, for, in expressing his vision of the world, the author represents reality in the way that he considers to be most fitting. The interaction and co-existence of subjective and objective factors find their realization in the stratificational structure of the text, i.e. in its multi-layered constitution. The interdisciplinary methodology of research, employed in the article involves some essential data of the theory of literature, linguo-stylistics, text interpretation and linguo-pragmatics.

The article is devoted to the critical analysis of some weak methodological points in (contrastive) linguo-culturology in the context of expanding linguo-profanation, linguo-epigonism, linguo-narcissism and linguo-nationalism in modem post-Soviet linguistics. The author gives some counterarguments to alleged primitive methodology in linguo-cultural studies, and highlights some of the reasons why epigonism and linguo-narcissism vs linguo-nationalism are spreading in the field of linguistics

Linguo-Axiological Speech-Genre Model and Its Actualization in English Drama Discourse

No full text
The linguo-axiological specificity of the English-language dramatic discourse is revealed through the prism of the speechgenre organization of the dialogue. The relevance of the work is due to the appeal to the problems of discursive-communicative linguoaxiology as a scientific direction, which is at the stage of formation of an independent research platform. The reasons for the linguo-axiological loading of the dramatic discourse are revealed, and the author's development of a linguo-axiological model of speech genres implemented within the limits of the British and American dramaturgical dialogue of the 20th and 21st centuries is proposed. The author dwells on five systemic parameters that form the linguo-axiological speech-genre model and substantiates the variants of their communicative manifestation. A sample of the matrix actualization of the proposed model is demonstrated on the example of a specific speech genre “small talk” when it is included in the format of a stylized dialogic interaction. The results of a comparative linguo-axiological analysis of textual realizations of the indicated speech genre are presented on the basis of four spatio-temporal fragments of the English dramatic discourse. The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that for the first time it applied the provisions of the theory of speech genres in the linguo-axiological interpretation of a stylized dialogue. It is concluded that the developed linguo-axiological model provides an opportunity to trace both the poly-aspect dynamics of the linguo-axiological indicators of the speech genre along the time axis, and its nationally marked specificity when updated within the dramaturgical dialogue

No full text
The article examines modern theoretical approaches to studying word formation, understanding its mechanisms helps to develop a holistic conception of the structure of a language. One of the effective scientific paradigms developed with a view to investigate morphology (both word formation and word transformation) is a formal-morphological. On the basis of the findings of a formal-morphological analysis of a corpus of Persian vocabulary the author formulates some linguo-statistical and morphological regularities of Persian word formation

No full text
The author analyses lingua-cognitive and linguo-cultural essence of the verbs compiling the scenario of spiritual processes peculiar to the conduct of the Uzbeks. Here, the verbs compiling this scenario, based on systematic peculiarities in paradigmatic relations, go into syntagmatic relations, in expressing the very reality. The author also says that this condition creates instantaneous condition and this condition put them in order of a new system. In this order, the basis of verbs is stable lingua-cultural value. Linguo-Pragmatic Peculiarities of Non-standard Compatibility in English Fiction

No full text
The article is devoted to the linguo-pragmatic peculiarities of non-standard compatibility of language units in English fiction by L. Carroll. As a result of the linguo-pragmatic analysis at the phonetic, lexical and semantic levels, the following peculiarities were revealed: cryptography method, based on the encryption of the information from the reader in order to involve him in a game of decoding the meaning; the creation of an atmosphere of “mystery”; the realistic description ofcharacter images; comicality of the character images; the effect of failed expectations; the change of communicative spheres: (everyday speech / etiquette) and nonsense. At the phonetic level of the language, the non-standard compatibility of language units in the works of L. Carroll is built on such techniques, as anagrams, alliterations, onomatopoeias, and various semantic convergences of words. At the lexical level, the non-standard compatibility is shown, usually through the language game, created by such derivational means as affixation, contamination, abbreviation and shortening. At the semantic level, the non-standard compatibility of language units is implemented through the play on meanings of polysemantic lexical units: zeugma, oxymoron, tautology and breaking the figurativeness of words through the creation of unusual phrases and turns of speech. Thus, non-standard compatibility techniques help the author to create specific images, which reveal the ideological content of the work and have an emotional influence upon the reader

No full text
Since lexical creativity relies not merely on artistic and aesthetic principles, but rather on complex cognitive processes, the article highlights cognitive nature of nonce formation as an integral component of a complex unity, being metacontext, cognition, language and speech. The interpretation of nonce words is based on the shared knowledge phenomenon that is tangency points of interlocutors’ sociocultural background knowledge and sets of their associations and values. In order to reveal the nonce compounds’ informational load the author suggests to employ the following method: cognitive procedure → cognitive operation → cognitive mechanism that enabled to the model of linguo-cognitive meaning construction of the relevant compound nonce words

No full text
Context and relevance. The relevance of the research problem is determined by the necessity of analyzing the author’s term as the sign, realizing language potential in standard semiotic tools, as well as in neology and unique conceptualization in the metalanguage of science. The issue of author’s semiosis is examined in the framework of modern semiotics of language and translation, revealing its significance in popularization of scientific knowledge and overcoming complexities in translation to ensure correct reception of the author’s sign in inter-cultural community. Objective. It is necessary to determine linguo-semiotic characteristics of the author's sign, which determine its interpretation and designing efficient strategies and technique of translation. Hypothesis. Elements of the terms in the analyzed microsystem display complex semantic-syntactic correlations, revealing basic conceptual properties of the analyzed notions of the sign. Methods and materials. The core of the research is lingo-semiotic approach, with application of semantic analysis of the terminological signs, analysis of author’s definitions and descriptions, semantic-syntactic analysis of multi-component attributive terminological structures, comparative analysis of correlated terminological units in the source language and target language. Results. Classifying and partitive relations of terminological signs in the analyzed microsystem reveal oppositive links of contrastive pair in the cluster intrapersonal и interpersonal intelligences. Semantic analysis specifies differential features in their complex correlation with the basic concept of multiple intelligences, i.e. concepts of activities, reflections, interaction, perception, empathy. Conclusions. Interpretation and translation of author’s terminological signs is performed with regard to their linguo-semiotic characteristics with application of structural-semantic and functional analysis of the sign, analysis of its deep syntactic multi-component structure, providing for disclosing essentials of the represented concepts.</p
