Perceptions of Health Sciences Students of an Introductory Interprofessional Education Course
Abstract
Date Presented 4/1/2017
Interprofessional education allows for effective collaborative practice by educating health care professionals to work together to produce patient-centered care. As health care moves to a team approach, it is important for higher education to prepare students before they enter the clinical environment.

Tesi

Assessing the Socio-economic Impact of Rural Road Projects in Nicaragua: A Study of the Road Integration Program II
This thesis focuses on rural roads in Nicaragua, specifically examining the socio-economic impact of the Road Integration Program II between 2017 and 2022. In addition to contributing to the suggested areas for research in the literature on rural roads, this study complements the existing evaluation of the program, which primarily focused on short-term economic indicators. The research approach employed in this thesis includes a case study of the Road Integration Program II, utilizing secondary data sources and analyzing it using a before-and-after and with-and-without approach between intervened and nonintervened municipalities. The findings from this research provide evidence that the program has had a positive impact on formal employment. However, the impact on health is only evident on one of the two roads, while there is no significant impact on school enrollment rates, with a decrease observed in the ratio of girls to boys in secondary school on one of the roads. Consequently, the main conclusions drawn from this study highlight that rural roads, while offering substantial socio-economic benefits, require additional policies to be effective. The author presents policy recommendations regarding the promotion of the transport sector, tourism, and agriculture, investments in human capital, gender mainstreaming, and improvements in data collection
Design of a Collapsible Instrument for Studying Grasp of Breakable Objects
abstract: Research on human grasp typically involves the grasp of objects designed for the study of fingertip forces. Instrumented objects for such studies have often been designed for the simulation of functional tasks, such as feeding oneself, or for rigidity such that the objects do not deform when grasped. The goal of this thesis was to design a collapsible, instrumented object to study grasp of breakable objects. Such an object would enable experiments on human grip responses to unexpected finger-object events as well as anticipatory mechanisms once object fragility has been observed. The collapsible object was designed to be modular to allow for properties such as friction and breaking force to be altered. The instrumented object could be used to study both human and artificial grasp
La Filosofía Protestante Fundacional de Estados Unidos
Traditional understandings of the genesis of the separation of church and state rest on assumptions about “Enlightenment and the republican ethos o f citizenship. The author does not seek to dislodge that interpretation but to augment and enrich it by recovering its cultural and discursive religious contexts, specifically the discourse of Protestant dissent. He argues that commitments by certain dissenting Protestants to the right of private judgment in matters of biblical interpretation, an outgrowth of the doctrine of the priesthood of all believers, helped promote religious disestablishment in the early modern West
Data-driven improvement of flight training safety at Purdue University
The School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University utilizes a wide range of resources to train aspiring pilots, technicians, and managers. Aircraft operate in one of four practice areas located within a 30 nautical mile radius of the Purdue University Airport. Due to factors such as poor weather conditions, inexperience of student pilots, and proximity misjudgment, one aircraft could operate in close proximity to another in the same practice area, compromising the safety of both aircraft and causing a Near Midair Collision (NMAC) event due to miscommunication, misinterpretation, or failure to act on the part of the pilots involved. The objective of the research reported herein is to develop a diverse student team to evaluate and address flight training safety at Purdue University. The team comprises the research arm of the Purdue Flight Operations Center, aggregating data from sources such as weather monitoring systems, aircraft maintenance systems, ADS-B transponders, real-time dispatch systems, and air traffic systems. The collected data will be used to target common operational errors and study their frequency and nature, and to measure aircraft separation in order to develop and improve parameters for the identification and reporting of NMAC events. Techniques developed by this team will be used by the Purdue safety team to analyze each instance where an NMAC event has occurred and develop strategies to mitigate these events. The research team will, in addition, develop data dashboards and provide suggestions to help improve the overall safety of the Purdue flight program
A PAX-8-Positive Female Urethral Adenocarcinoma, Intestinal-Type: A Case Report with Diagnostic Challenges and a Review of the Literature
Female urethral adenocarcinoma (FUA) is extremely rare. It is an aggressive malignancy, and clear cell and columnar/mucinous ( intestinal ) represent the two primary histologic subtypes. Diagnosis is often delayed in patients because of their vague symptomatology; hence, they present with an advanced disease and a poor prognosis. The rarity of FUA brings challenges when determining treatment and management, and treatment guidelines for various stages are lacking. We report an intestinal-type FUA that developed from inflammation-related metaplasia in urethral diverticulum with positive paired box 8 (PAX-8) staining. In addition to intestinal-type FUA being extremely rare, this particular entity exhibiting PAX-8 positivity has not been previously described, to the author\u27s best knowledge. The present report highlights the importance of clinical and radiological assessment as well as histomorphologic and immunophenotypic features for an accurate diagnosis of this rare and aggressive malignancy
Planning and Suitability Assessment of Large-scale Nature-based Solutions for Flood-risk Reduction
Adverse effects of climate change are increasing around the world and the floods are posing significant challenges for water managers. With climate projections showing increased risks of storms and extreme precipitation, the use of traditional measures alone is no longer an option. Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) offer a suitable alternative to reduce the risk of flooding and provide multiple benefits. However, planning such interventions requires careful consideration of various factors and local contexts. The present paper provides contribution in this direction and it proposes a methodology for allocation of large-scale NBS using suitability mapping. The methodology was implemented within the toolboxes of ESRI ArcMap software in order to map suitability for four types of NBS interventions: floodplain restoration, detention basins, retention ponds, and river widening. The toolboxes developed were applied to the case study area in Serbia, i.e., the Tamnava River basin. Flood maps were used to determine the volume of floodwater that needs to be stored for reducing flood risk in the basin and subsequent downstream areas. The suitability maps produced indicate the potential of the new methodology and its application as a decision-support tool for selection and allocation of large-scale NBS.</p
