TCC(graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Centro de Ciências Biológicas. Biologia.

Capacitismo.ABSTRACT: This interview sought to bring understandings about the term disability based on the experiences of Prof. Luciana Ferrari as a researcher on the connections between disability, language and decoloniality and as mother of Lívia, a teenager with cerebral palsy. The questions raised by Prof. Lívia Fortes, professor and researcher in the field of Applied Linguistics, more specifically on teacher education, started from her own process of constructing meanings about disability, intertwined with her personal relationship with Lívia and Luciana, of whom she is a close friend. We hope that the ideas presented and discussed here can lead to processes of interrupting the ableism that is so common in our society. KEYWORDS: Disability. Applied Linguistics. Ableism

Environmentally Friendly Lycopene Purification from Tomato Peel Waste: Enzymatic Assisted Aqueous Extraction.

The antioxidant and anticancer properties of lycopene make it an ideal component for daily food supplements. For this reason this study investigated the possibility of extracting lycopene from tomato waste peels using a green chemistry protocol devoid of organic solvent. Cells are lysed thanks to a combination of pH changes and hydrolytic enzyme treatments. The lycopene-containing chromoplasts are then precipitated by lowering the pH and isolated through a centrifugation step. At this stage the lycopene content of the isolated chromoplasts shows a 10-fold increase (3−5% w/w, dry basis) with respect to untreated tomato peels. A further improvement in lycopene concentration is obtained by a second enzymatic treatment using a protease cocktail. This catalytic step eliminates unwanted proteins, bound to the chromoplasts, but not essential for their stability. The final product shows a lycopene content around 8−10% (w/w, dry basis), which represents a 30-fold increase with respect to the lycopene concentration of the untreated peels

Thermal stability improvement of duble colorant C-phycocyanin from Spirulina platensis for food industry applications.

C-Phycocyanin (C-PC) is a blue pigment in cyanobacteria, rhodophytes and cryptophytes with potential use as a value-added food colorant. Its stability was studied by examining the thermal degradation reactions in a range of temperature (25-80 C) before and after the addition of selected edible preservatives. The natural protein crosslinker methylglyoxal does not stabilize significantly C-PC whereas addition of honey or high concentration of sugars greatly diminish the blue color degradation occurring when C-PC is exposed to high temperature. Data show that the sugar preservative effect on the C-PC blue color is related to the final concentration of sugar added rather than the type of sugar. For this reason the best preservative was found to be fructose, which is the most soluble sugar among those tested, at saturation concentration. Exploratory sterilization studies have been carried out with six blue/green fructose syrups made by mixing C-PC with the natural yellow pigment Carthamus tinctorius. Both after a "low temperature" and a "high temperature" sterilization procedure the syrups remain clear and maintain their bright color with only partial blue color degradation. After the sterilization process, the syrups were monitored for two months, in such observation period the loss of blue color is minimal

Author-X is a Java-based system that addresses the security issues of access control and policy design for XML document administration. Author-X supports the specification of policies at varying granularity levels and the specification of user credentials as a way to enforce access control. Access control is available according to both push and pull document distribution policies, and document updates are distributed through a combination of hash functions and digital signature techniques. The Author-X approach to distributed updates allows a user to verify a document's integrity without contacting the document server

Le lettere di Francesco Paolo Como a Ettore Ferrari.

In 1923 the sculptor Francesco Paolo Como (Taranto, 1888-Rome, 1973) wins the contest for the Monumento ai caduti in Taranto. As known, the realization of this work suffers many delays because of tension between the author and the various committees. Only in 1953, the last group, the Aquilifero, can be set up. The article analyses the sequence of events related to the monument through a series of missives between Como and his mentor Ettore Ferrari (Rome, 1845-1929). Through this correspondence is possible to write a clearer history of the monument and his author, explaining the reasons of Como’s anxiety, his relationship with Ferrari and his social role into the ‘fascistissima’ Taranto

Luigi Villari’s book Fire and Sword in the Caucasus, published in London in 1906, is widely quoted by the scholars who study the history of South Caucasus at the time of the first Russian Revolution in 1905. After a short introduction about the interest- ing figure of this author, the first part of the article will take into consideration Villari’s peculiar attitude toward the Armenians. The larger part of the article will consider his first-hand description of the massacres perpetrated by the Azeris (Tartars) in the region of Nakhichevan. As a matter of fact, Luigi Villari’s testimony of the tragic events of 1905 is more interesting than ever to understand the origins of a contrast that continues— even if in a deeply different situation—to stain with blood the relationship between Armenians and the South Caucasian Turks
