Konfrontacje JHWH z Dagonem na podstawie 1 Sm 5,1–5
1 Samuel 4 details two battles at Eben-Haezer, both of which resulted in defeat for the Israelites. The Ark of God, seized as a war trophy, was taken by the Philistines and placed in the temple of Dagon in Ashdod. These events did not indicate YHWH’s powerlessness; rather, they were a manifestation of His sovereign will. Through these occurrences, YHWH aimed to admonish the Israelites, demonstrate His supremacy over Dagon, and test the Philistines. This article examines 1 Samuel 5:1–5, a passage intended to remind the Israelites of their God’s power and encourage faithfulness to YHWH, while also providing solace during challenging times. Employing the historical-critical method, the author analyses the structure of the pericope and the multi-stage process of Dagon’s humiliation. This research addresses whether the desecration of the Philistine idol was accidental and explores the gradation of the effects resulting from the confrontation between YHWH and Dagon.1 Sm 4 opisuje dwie bitwy, do których doszło pod Eben-Haezer.
Favoritism of God? שָׁעָה in Genesis 4:1-16 and its implications for Cain’s status and offerings
This article aims to analyze the meaning of the word שָׁעָה based on Genesis 4:1-16 and explain its implications for the status of Cain and his offering. The research method used by the author in writing this is a qualitative research method based on hermeneutic principles. The results of this study indicate that the word שָׁעָה has the meaning of respect. God honoured Abel and his sacrifice. At the same time, God does not respect Cain and his gift. God knows what Cain's plot was before he killed Abel. The implication of Cain's status and sacrifice is that Cain's evil personality hindered him and his sacrifice before God. His person stands in the way of his gift to reach God
