Comparison of ovarian cycles of Hungarian riverine fish species representing different spawning strategies
Investigations on the ovarian cycle of fish species that inhabit Hungarian rivers are necessitated by both environmental and economic reasons. The objective of our research was to explore new fundamental knowledge concerning the ovarian cycle of the white bream (Blicca bjoerkna, Linnaeus, 1758), barbel (Barbus barbus, Linnaeus, 1758), orfe (Leuciscus idus, Linnaeus, 1758) and nase (Chondrostoma nasus, Linnaeus, 1758). Histological investigation of ovaries and determination of proportions of oocytes in different stages of development is an appropriate method for the description of spawning characteristics of these species. Our results show that the GSI value for all four investigated species starts to increase at the end of summer and reaches its maximum before spawning. In the barbel and white bream, the presence of oocytes in the stage of cortical alveoli and the heterogeneous size of oocytes in the stage of vitellogenesis in the pre-spawning period indicate that barbel and white bream are multiple spawners. In contrast, in the orfe and nase, the absence of oocytes in the stage of cortical alveoli and the homogeneous size of cells in the stage of vitellogenesis indicate that orfe and nase are single spawners

The soul in the mediaeval Psalter
The soul in the mediaeval Psalter
The paper is an attempt to examine what lies at the heart and soul of the mediaeval Psalter in the contemporaneous approach(es) to its vernacularisations. In particular, the paper investigates the applications of the mediaeval translation theory in relation to a 12th-century Anglo-Norman, a 15th-century Middle French and four 14th-century Middle English prose Psalter renditions, with a view to locate them within the spirit of the attitude to biblical translations current in the Middle Ages and against the backdrop of the position of the Psalter in the period. In practical terms, the analysis is conducted on the basis of the equivalent selection strategies for rendering four Latin nouns central to the Psalter: anima, animae ‘soul,’ cor, cordis ‘heart’ and, perhaps surprisingly, ren, renis ‘kidney’ and lumbus, lumbi ‘loins’. All cases of variation in this respect are studied closely from intra- as well as extra-textual perspectives in order to establish the possible reasons behind the divergences, as these constitute exceptions rather than the rule, even in apparently heterodox renditions.
Dusza w średniowiecznym Psałterzu
Artykuł stanowi próbę bliższego przyjrzenia się podstawowym zasadom średniowiecznego podejścia do tłumaczenia psałterza na języki wernakularne. Przedstawiono w nim analizę zastosowania mediewalnej teorii tłumaczeń w odniesieniu do dwunastowiecznego Psałterza anglo-normandzkiego, piętnastowiecznego Psałterza średniofrancuskiego i czterech czternastowiecznych tłumaczeń Księgi Psalmów na średnioangielski.
Richard Rolle’s Psalter Rendition: The Work of a Language Purist?
Richard Rolle’s Psalter rendition, as any of the medieval English Psalter translations, is thickly enveloped in a set of assertions, originating in the nineteenth century, whose validity has been accepted unquestioned. It is the purpose of the present paper to investigate one such claim concerning the vocabulary selection, according to which Rolle’s rendition would employ almost exclusively lexical items of native origin, except for the instances where no proper item with native etymology presents itself in a particular context and Rolle is forced to use a Latin-derived word. The assertion generates at least two problematic issues. Firstly, it identifies Rolle’s translation as most exceptional in relation to the remaining 14th-century English Psalter translations: the Wycliffite Bibles and the Middle English Glossed Prose Psalter of which the former are asserted to be overtly influenced by the Latin text they render and the latter deeply indebted both syntactically and, more importantly, lexically to a ‘French source’. Secondly, it ascribes Richard Rolle the ideas nowadays covered by the term linguistic purism. Therefore, it seems necessary to analyse the lexical layer of the text in search of evidence, or lack thereof, which sets Rolle’s translation lexically apart from other renditions and sheds some light on the issue of Rolle’s supposed linguistic purism. Such a study is conducted on the basis of the nominal layer of the first fifty Psalms of the four relevant texts analysed in relation to their common Latin source text as only the juxtaposition of all of these enables one to (dis)prove the claim cited above. To provide a wider context from which to view them, the findings will be presented in relation to an overview of the contemporary theory of translation and set against a broadly sketched linguistic map of contemporary England
Is there a method in this… madness? On variance between two manuscript copies of a Middle English Psalter
The objective of the paper is to determine the extent and the possible sources of the intertextual lexical variation between two manuscript copies of a single Middle English Psalter known, among other names, as the Middle English Glossed Prose Psalter. The purpose of the paper can be understood only if one approaches the variance from a medieval perspective on text with respect for the inherent features of manuscript culture and an understanding of the exceptional character of the text analysed in the study, which topics are briefly discussed within the paper. The extent of the variance is measured in relation to the nominal choices attested in the two copies of the text, the rationale behind the variation being sought separately in each case, taking into account the contextual intricacies of all the occurrences of the nouns under analysis

Kinga Wernicka - doktor nauk prawnych, Katedra Prawa Unii Europejskiej Wydziału Prawa i Administracji Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej; rzecznik patentowy. This article aims to outline the nature of infringement action based on an
unregistered community design. The author indicates the principles of this kind of
action. The article consists of 4 parts (excluding introduction and final remarks).
In the first part, the author indicates the rights conferred by Community designs
based on art. 19.1 of the Council Regulation (EC) No 6/2002 of 12 December 2001
on Community designs, and endeavours to define the scope of protection of an
unregistered design. The second part concerns the limitation of rights conferred by
an unregistered community design, while the third provides analysis on the issue
of the presumption of validity of unregistered community design based on art. 85.2
(1) of regulation 6/2002, in which the author enumerates the proof that should be
produced by the rights holder. The final part of the article presents some remarks on
the procedural aspects of proceedings relating to infringement of an unregistered
design. All aspects concerning the subject of the article are based on judgements of
the Court of Justice of the European Union and the literature on the topic.Uniwersytet Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej243-25
Wielkie poruszenie
The post-war displacement of populations, the origin of which is commonly associated with the Yalta Conference, included around six million people on the Polish side alone (in a soulless approximation), which, at the time, constituted nearly a third of the entire population of the country. These figures speak for themselves: it is one of the largest collective experiences of Polish society after World War II and, as such, it should be ascribed a foundational character. In this book, Kinga Siewior assigns herself the task of verifying whether it is also one of the most significant post-war experiences of Polish society and whether it was/is/could be considered in the light of this foundationality. The author is interested in the issue of how post-war migrations of Polish population to the West were represented in recent decades, and how they are portrayed today, as well as what their place and role in the construction of Polish collective identity was considered to be in the past, and how it is seen nowadays. To word it differently: in this book, the author poses the question of whether Polish society can be regarded as a (post)migrational society
Genealogies of Kinga and Other Saintly Female Rulers in the Middle Ages. A Hagiographic Study
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest określenie celu, jakiemu służyły genealogie w żywotach świętych władczyń. W centrum analizy znajduje się Żywot św. Kingi, córki króla Węgier Beli IV i żony księcia krakowskiego Bolesława Wstydliwego, zmarłej w 1292 r. Autor korzysta także z innych źródeł hagiograficznych pochodzących z całego średniowiecza i z różnych krajów Europy. Genealogie te służyły wykazaniu, że zadatki na świętość bohaterka utworu odziedziczyła po przodkach. The present article seeks to define the purpose of the genealogies included in the lives of saintly female rulers. The analysis centres around the Life of Saint Kinga, who died in 1292; she was the daughter of King Bela IV of Hungary and wife of Prince Bolesław V the Chaste of Cracow. The author also uses other hagiographic sources from the entire period of the Middle Ages and various parts of Europe. These genealogies were to demonstrate that the protagonist of the text inherited her potential to be a saint from her ancestors
Wielkie poruszenie
The post-war displacement of populations, the origin of which is commonly associated with the Yalta Conference, included around six million people on the Polish side alone (in a soulless approximation), which, at the time, constituted nearly a third of the entire population of the country.
