Zacharias Topeliuksen Fältskärns berättelser oli alkanut ilmestyä jatkokertomuksena Helsingfors Tidningarissa vuonna 1851. Viisiosainen teos julkaistiin kirjoina vuosina 1853-1867. Tämä suosittu romaanisarja kertoo Suomen ja Ruotsin historiasta Kustaa II Aadolfin ajoista Kustaa III:n aikoihin asti. Vaiherikkaissa tarinoissa suuret historialliset tapahtumat ja aikakaudet elävöityvät yksilöiden elämänkohtaloiden kautta. Suomen osuus Ruotsin valtakunnan historiassa nousee tärkeään asemaan. Kyseinen VÄLSKÄRIN KERTOMUKSIA on Juhani Ahon suomennos seitsemännestä ruotsinkielisestä painoksesta.

Omaksuttu metodi nojaa vahvimmin aatehistorian tutkimusperinteeseen. Lähtökohtana on Konkan toiminnan ja ajattelun tarkasteleminen toistensa konteksteina. Tutkielman merkittävimmän lähdeaineiston muodostavat laajan alkuperäismateriaalin ohella Konkan kirjoittamat omaelämäkerralliset romaanit, joiden hyödyntäminen historian tutkimusaineistona on edellyttänyt huomion kiinnittämistä metodologisiin valintoihin ja teosten kirjalliseen luonteeseen. Konkan romaanit vahvistavat tutkielman henkilöhistoriallista ulottuvuutta ja tarjoavat alkuperäismateriaalin rinnalla tarkasteltuina ainutlaatuisen ikkunan lukuisiin historiallisiin tapahtumiin ja teosten laatijan kokemuksiin. Konkan rooli Ruudun yhteistyökumppanina osoitetaan aiempia tulkintoja itsenäisemmäksi ja monipuolisemmaksi. Hänen henkilöönsä liitetyt merkitykset Ruudun poliittisena avustajana paljastetaan yksinkertaistetuiksi. Erityisesti vuosina 1932 1933 kaksikon välit olivat kireät ja Konkka toimi oppi-isänsä edustaman poliittisen linjan kiivaana opponenttina. Hänen toimintansa osoitetaan lisäksi keskittyneen käytännön politiikan ympärille, siinä missä Ruutu vastasi asioiden teoreettisesta puolesta. Asettamalla tarkastelun kohteeksi käytännön toimintaan keskittynyt Konkka usein teoreettisuuden perikuvana pidetyn Ruudun sijaan on myös kokonaiskuva ruutulaisten poliittisesta toiminnasta muodostunut uudenlaiseksi.

Internationalization prospects of Finnish language technology SMEs in rural India

    No full text
Rural India is an emerging business area with a population of over 800 million people. Despite the strong two-decade long economic growth, most of these people have to cope with a poor selection of both private and public services due to consumer limitations and deficiencies in service infrastructure. Mobile services are rapidly becoming one important exception. Mobile phones are enabling access to various services from banking to agriculture and from healthcare to education for the rural people, and this consequently creates large scale business opportunities for international mobile service developers. In multilingual India, services have to be scaled to various languages and they have to overcome the obstacle of illiteracy in order to reach entire rural audience. The utilization of language technology is one possibility to deal with both issues cost-effectively. This thesis takes a novel approach on internationalization research by examining the prospects that Finnish language technology companies have in the commercial development of multilingual mobile services in rural India through a case study of six SMEs. The results suggest that the prospects are characterized by the internationalization orientation and knowledge orientation of the company, and that Finnish language technology companies are prone to reactive internationalization at best when it comes to developing areas

Being the contemporary architecture described by Juhani Pallasmaa as the one which is "born as a consequence of the neglect of the body and the senses, as well as an imbalance of our sensory system"1, the purpose of this dissertation is simultaneously to reflect on the current state of architecture and introduce the writings of the Finnish architect as determinants of a better understanding of the relationship between the individual with his shelter, the world. For this, the present dissertation introduces two discourses that intend to introduce the thoughts of the architect Juhani Pallasmaa on one hand and on the other the personal daydreams of the author of this dissertation. The ideas of the Finnish architect are considered as the notions of a "bedside author"2 who follows and leads the reflections made throughout the entire work. These reflections derived from these raised notions and are exposed in a "cabinet of curiosities"3 that aims to introduce scientific facts, personal daydreams and even architectural examples that try to illustrate each collection. The writings of the architect are introduced as an opening to the different Paces that aim to reflect on specific themes selected by the author of the present dissertation considered imperative in the current condition of architectural practice. The approach to this object of study is divided into five parts/chapters that correspond roughly to the different phases of the work. The first chapter introduces the "bedside author" and examines Juhani Pallasmaa's written and constructed work, making an approach to his notion of architecture of the senses and the imaginary present in his reflections, closing the chapter with a chronology of his work. The second chapter proposes a first Pace that aims to explore the virtues of animal kingdom constructions for the practice of an architecture that is simpler, ecological and rooted in its condition of belonging to the natural world. The third chapter introduces a second Pace that is crucial for the understanding of Pallasmaa's architecture, exploring the capabilities of sensory modalities in understanding the relation between the body and the individual with the world and the space. The fourth chapter suggests a third Pace that is constituted by the imaginary understanding of the space of the house as a determinant of our existence in the homeless and unprotected world of the space and the time. And finally, the fifth and last chapter, as a return to the origin of some of the concerns that drove the construction of each of the Paces proposed in this dissertation, presents a conclusion for each one of these by suggesting a posture and conscience that integrates the notions mentioned throughout this dissertation

Publisher Copyright: © 2022 The Author(s)Objective: Medication adherence is essential for effective stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to assess whether adherence to direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in AF patients is affected by the presence of mental health conditions (MHCs). Methods: The nationwide FinACAF cohort covered 74,222 AF patients from all levels of care receiving DOACs during 2011–2018 in Finland. Medication possession ratio (MPR) was used to quantify adherence. Patients with MPR ≥0.90 were defined adherent. MHCs of interest were depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder and schizophrenia. Results: The patients' (mean age 75.4 ± 9.5 years, 50.8% female) mean MPR was 0.84 (SD 0.22), and 59.5% had MPR ≥0.90. Compared to patients without MHC, the adjusted ORs (95% CI) for adherent DOAC use emerged slightly lower in patients with depression (0.92 (0.84–0.99)) and bipolar disorder (0.77 (0.61–0.97)) and unsignificant in patients with anxiety disorder (1.08 (0.96–1.21)) and schizophrenia (1.13 (0.90–1.43)). However, when only persistent DOAC therapy was analyzed, no MHC was associated with poor adherence, and instead anxiety disorder was associated with adherent DOAC use (1.18 (1.04–1.34)). Conclusion: Adherence to DOACs in AF patients in Finland was relatively high, and no meaningful differences between patients with and without MHCs were observed.Peer reviewe
