    The fate of the vulval cells in Caenorhabditis elegans is specified, at least in part, through a highly conserved RTK/Ras mediated signaling cascade that negatively regulates the activity of the ETS-like transcription factor LIN-1. The Hox gene lin-39 functions downstream of both, the LIN-3/RTK/Ras pathway and LIN-1 and plays a pivotal role in controlling vulva cell competence and induction. Here we show that LET-418, a C. elegans ortholog of the human NuRD component Mi-2, negatively modulates the activity of lin-39. LET-418 interacts in vivo with specific regions in the promoter of lin-39 and this interaction depends on LIN-1. Our data provide evidence for a model in which LIN-1 recruits LET-418/Mi-2 as co-repressor to the promoter of lin-39, thereby restricting its activity to the basal levels required in the vulva precursor cells (VPCs) for normal vulval development. Thus, our data suggest that the interaction between LIN-1 and LET-418/Mi-2 may link RTK/Ras signaling with chromatin remodeling and gene expression

    Immunological Characterization of Anti-Mi(a), a Red Blood Cell Alloantibody, in Taiwan

    Background and Objectives The red blood cell Mi III phenotype is prevalent in Asia, and its corresponding alloantibody, anti-Mi(a) , has been reported to cause haemolytic transfusion reactions and haemolytic disease of the newborn. However, a complete picture of the immunological characteristics of anti-Mi(a) is still lacking . We therefore conducted a systematic study to evaluate the potential clinical significance of this antibody.Materials and Methods From April 1999 to March 2000, we identified 60 sera containing anti-Mi(a) among pretransfusion samples at a teaching hospital in Taiwan. These antibodies were tested for immunoglobulin class, thermal range and activity in a monocyte monolayer assay.Results Thirty-four (57%) of the antibodies were immunoglobulin M ( IgM), and 15 retained their activity at 37 degreesC. Of those that were immunoglobulin G (IgG), 96% were of subclasses IgG1 and/or IgG3. Monocyte monolayer assay studies showed that 69% (18/ 26) of the IgG anti-Mi(a) sera were reactive.Conclusions Our study justifies the implementation of anti-Mi(a) screening in Taiwan

    Di Indonesia, hampir 75 % sampah merupakan sampah organik yang jika tidak ditangani de-ngan baik akan menimbulkan bau tidak sedap dan menjadi tempat berkembang-biaknya bakteri yang berpotensi mengganggu kesehatan masyarakat. Industri Jenang Mirah di Desa Josari, Jetis, Ponorogo, Jawa Timur menghasilkan ±1,2 kuintal sampah organik berupa ampas kelapa (Cocos nucifera Lin) yang belum ditangani secara maksimal. Kandungan serat kasar pada am-pas kelapa dapat dimanfaatkan menjadi tepung sebagai substitusi tepung terigu dalam bahan pembuatan makanan, salah satunya mi basah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan uji organoleptik dan masa simpan mi basah yang dihasilkan dari empat formulasi campuran dengan melakukan eksperimen semu menggunakan desain post-test only with con-trol group. Formulasi yang digunakan adalah: Formulasi I, 300 gr tepung ampas kelapa dan 200 gr tepung terigu; Formulasi II, 250 gr tepung ampas kelapa dan 250 gr tepung terigu; For-mulasi III, 200 gr tepung ampas kelapa dan 300 gr tepung terigu; dan Formulasi IV atau kontrol, 500 tepung terigu tanpa tepung ampas kelapa. Dengan panelis sebanyak lima orang dan diuji dengan Kruskall-Wallis pada derajat kebermaknaan 5 %, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Formulasi III adalah yang paling diterima oleh konsumen (rerata skor 3,98 dengan kategori pe-nilaian “suka”). Formulasi tersebut juga menghasilkan mi basah dengan masa simpan dalam kemasan plastik yang paling lama, yaitu 12 jam

    Question: A 46-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with a 1-day history of sudden onset colicky central abdominal pain. She had been passing flatus until that morning and her last bowel motion was the day before. She had been tolerating diet without any nausea or vomiting. She had no significant medical history and had otherwise been previously fit and well throughout her life. She had no previous surgery and no previous endoscopic procedures. She was an active smoker. Her vital signs were normal on surgical review. Initially she appeared comfortable however on serial observations she appeared to develop waves of colicky and severe cramping pain. There was no abdominal distension noted. Her abdomen was generally tender maximally in the epigastrium with localized guarding. Her white cell count was 12.9 × 109/L and her C-reactive protein was 2.0 mg/L. Her serum electrolytes, renal function, liver function tests, and lipase were all normal.Full Tex

    Examining consumers’ behavioral intention in O2O commerce from a relational perspective: an exploratory study

    Online-to-offline (O2O) commerce is a new e-business model that is popular among consumers and profitable for e-vendors. However, limited studies have been conducted to understand consumer behavior in this context. Based on commitment–trust theory and trust transfer theory, we conducted an exploratory study to explore consumers’ repurchase intention and sharing intention in the O2O commerce context from the relational viewpoint. Two studies were conducted using a web-based survey and Partial Least Squares were used to analyze the data. In Study 1, the results indicated that various targets of trust and commitment have significant effects on repurchase intention and sharing intention. Trust can be transferred both inter-channel and intra-channel in O2O commerce. Moreover, the effect of trust in O2O platforms on commitment is mediated by trust in user community and trust in merchants. To demonstrate the generalizability and external robustness of the results, we replicated the research model in Study 2 using data from a more representative sample. The replicated study produced similar results. This research provides an initial understanding of consumer behavior in the O2O commerce context and contributes to trust transfer theory and commitment–trust theory. Further, this research benefits companies undertaking O2O business by enabling them to better understand how to improve consumer repurchasing intention and sharing intention to succeed in the e-business industry

    Marknadsföring av kurser inom fria bildningen : Utvecklande av en hemsida för sykurser i Pedersöre MI

    Föreliggande examensarbete omfattar utarbetande av en hemsida som marknadsföringskanal för sykurser i Pedersöre MI. Syftet var att denna kanal skulle ge flera kursdeltagare samt behålla de tidigare kursdeltagarna. Som uppdragsgivare fungerade Åsa Nyberg-Sundqvist, rektor på Pedersöre MI. Som teoridelar i arbetet gjordes definition och beskrivning av marknadsföring och traditionella och digitala marknadsföringskanaler, samt av skillnaderna mellan dessa. Fria bildningen och medborgarinstitutens verksamhet generellt, samt skapande av en hemsida, beskrevs som teoridelar i detta arbete. Skapande av en hemsida beskrevs som bakgrund till det praktiska arbetet, utvecklandet av en hemsida. Som metod användes intervju med intervjuguide för beskrivning av marknadsföring med betoning på marknadsföringskanaler inom Pedersöre MI 2002 – 2021. Som bakgrund och forskningsmetoder till teoridelarna samt utvecklande av hemsidan låg litteraturstudier, nätstudier via webbsökning samt egen fortbildning i digital kompetens för undervisning inom fria bildningen. Vid utvecklandet av hemsidan testades och jämfördes två olika digitala verktyg för att erhålla den optimala hemsidans utseende och användning för sykurser i Pedersöre MI. Det praktiska skapandet av hemsidan beskrevs och resultatet diskuterades samt förslag gavs för uppdragsgivaren om hemsidan som en digital marknadsföringskanal för sykurser i Pedersöre MI.This thesis includes developing a website as a digital marketing channel for the sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre. The aim was to get more participants to the sewing courses and encourage the current participants to continue participating. Åsa Nyberg–Sundqvist, principal of Pedersöre Adult Education Centre, was acting as the supervisor. A description of marketing and traditional and digital marketing channels and the distinction between those were included in the theoretical part. A description of the liberal adult education and Adult Education Centre in general as well as developing of website were presented as theoretical parts in this thesis. The marketing of Pedersöre Adult Education Centre during 2002-2021 was described by two interviews. The theory on creating websites worked as a background to the practical part and the development of the website for the commissioner. As research method on the marketing of Pedersöre Adult Education Centre an interview with interview guide were made. As background and research methods for the developing of the website were used different literature studies, web searches and the author´s continuing education in digital competences for teaching in liberal adult education. During the developing of the website two different digital website programs and tools were tested and compared, to get the most optimized look and use for sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre. The thesis resulted in a website for sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre. The process of developing the website and the result were discussed and suggestions for future marketing were given to the commissioner
