Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Lima Barreto: rupturas

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

It is the key pest of peanuts in South America and is strictly host specific, restricted to Arachis spp. (Lima et al. 2022). It has been recorded in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay and is newly recorded here in Peru. This species was misidentified as E. flavens until 2022 (Lima et al. 2022). Contrary to E. flavens, E. enigmaticus has the body uniformly brown (Fig. 4), metanotal reticles without internal markings (Fig. 39), and lines of sculpture on mesonotum and lateral thirds of abdominal tergites spaced further apart. It is also unique among Enneothrips in having brachypterous males (Fig. 5). While similar to E. flaviceps, it can be distinguished by the characters in the key provided above.

Material studied. Female holotype: Brazil. S„o Paulo: Jaboticabal, UNESP-FCAV, on Arachis hypogaea, 12.vii.2016 (J.R. The persistent water problems of Lima, Peru:Neoliberalism, institutional failures and social inequalities

No full text
The contingent relation between water governance and nature neoliberalization has defined most interventions in the water sector around the world in recent years. In the case of the Peruvian capital Lima, the provision of water and sanitation services in the last two decades has been the object of investments and institutional reforms strongly influenced by economic neoliberalism. This essay examines the evolution of these neoliberalizing tendencies, noting the internal disputes, necessary adjustments and underlying problems of water sufficiency in the metropolitan region. The empirical results suggest that, rather than a straightforward process, the neoliberalization of water in Lima has advanced according to political opportunities and technico-operational constraints. The water reforms implemented in the 1990s - when the goal of privatization met political opposition - can be contrasted with the more recent phase in the 2000s, when more flexible mechanisms, such as public-private partnerships, have facilitated public acceptance. Despite the renovation of the infrastructure, the modernization of the water sector has failed to address persistent water management problems, namely the discriminatory treatment of low income residents, the chaotic expansion of the metropolitan area and the risk of future water shortages

Abstract : We pretend to analyse Walter Benjamin´s theses in "Sobre o conceito de história" (On the concept of history) in the literary representation of Lima Barreto, highlighting some important concepts: memory/remembrance, racial discrimination, progress, oppressors/oppressed, exploiters/exploited, discourse/politics and others. We will start with Lima Barreto´s initial idea, that is, of describing the history of the black slavery in Brazil through what he calls "negrismo" in Brazilian literature, while maintaining that this project should not be considered unsuccessful since it can be found in most of his works. If Lima Barreto did not write the intended history, his fiction is drenched with thoughts of a project close to his heart and which, to a certain extent, strongly parallels the theses of Walter Benjamin, especially in regard to human suffering under oppressive and dictatorial political regimes. Therefore, we tried to understand, in the light of the theses developed by Walter Benjamin, to what extent the writer Lima Barreto analyses and understands that phase of the history of Brazil called Rio de Janeiro´s "belle époque", transforming his project into fictional narratives, be they completed or unfinished

No full text
The aim of this contribution is the presentation of the political conflicts between the Archbishop of Lima, Toribio Alfonso de Mogrovejo (1538-1606), together with his faithful collaborator the parish priest Alonso de Huerta, and the cathedral chapter. Though the chapter was a sort of senate or permanent council of the diocese clergy, it by no means acted as an institution involved in the missionary commitments of Archbishop Mogrovejo. On the contrary, its members rallied around against what they considered to be a violation of their economic privileges, and on several instances they denounced the Archbishop, as well as the parish priest Alonso de Huerta, arguing that they intruded in the internal rules of the chapter.Publicad

Behavioral modeling of GaN-based power amplifiers: impact of electrothermal feedback on the model accuracy and identification

No full text
In this article, we discuss the accuracy of behavioral models in simulating the intermodulation distortion (IMD) of microwave GaN-based high-power amplifiers in the presence of strong electrothermal (ET) feedback. Exploiting an accurate self-consistent ET model derived from measurements and thermal finite-element method simulations, we show that behavioral models are able to yield accurate results, provided that the model identification is carried out with signals with wide bandwidth and large dynamics
