Sweet Lilly
Oh, Lilly, sweet Lilly, oh Lilly fare you well,
I'm sorry to leave you, I love you so well.
Your parents don't like me, they say I am too poor, They say I'm not worthy to enter your door.
Some say I drink whiskey, my money is my own,
And those that don't like me can just let me alone.
My foot's in my stirrup, my bridle's in my hand, I'll go court another in a far distant land.
Oh Lilly, sweet Lilly, oh Lilly fare you well,
I'm sorry to leave you I love you so well.

Environments of the zCOSMOS galaxies
zCOSMOS is a large redshift survey (0<z<3) undertaken in the COSMOS field. We use the current sample of 10000 zCOSMOS spectra of sources selected at IAB <= 22.5, combined with the ZADE modified photometric redshift probability distributions of objects not yet observed spectroscopically, to define the density field out to z 1. The reconstructed overdensity field consists of cluster-like patterns surrounded by void-like regions up to the highest redshift probed. The relations between galaxy's properties (colour and morphology) and the environment in which they reside are already at place at redshift z 1, having red and early type galaxies populating denser environments than blue and late type galaxies. Once the stellar mass of galaxies is fixed, the observed trends between galaxy properties and environment weaken. We interpret this as a natural consequence of the dependence of the stellar mass function on environment
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Survival of Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes and indicator bacteria on cooked uncured turkey loaf stored under vacuum at 3°C
Sterile slices of cooked uncured turkey loaf were inoculated with 106 CFU of either Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Citrobacter freundii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Enterobacter cloacae. Inoculated samples were vacuum‐packaged and stored at 3 ± 1°C. Microorganisms were enumerated at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 days on nonselective media. K. pneumoniae exhibited the least cold‐tolerance with a log10 1.70 decrease in numbers. The coliforms E. cloacae, E. coli, and C. freundii had a survival pattern similar to that of S. typhimurium, with population decreases of log10 0.65, 0.82, 1.13, and 0.79, respectively. E. faecalis and L. monocytogenes were significantly more cold‐resistant, with a decrease of log10 0.20 and no significant change in numbers, respectively. Survival of E. faecalis was not significantly (p < 0.01) different than that of L. monocytogenes, suggesting the use of enterococci as indicators of L. monocytogenes contamination of processed meats.Peer reviewedfinal article publishe
Welfare Impacts of Property Rights in the Seed Industry
The paper examines the welfare impact of different intellectual property right (IPR) regimes in private sector seed research. The model takes into account the period after expiration of IPR protection, and requires a simultaneous equilibrium in the markets for R&D, seeds, and final product (grain). Simulation results show that with the exception of R&D productivity, the optimal level of IPR protection is remarkably insensitive to parameters of the model. There is a range of IPR appropriability levels where the interests of consumers and producers (taken together) are complementary to the interests of R&D firms, and another range of appropriability levels where the welfare of producers and consumers can be increased only at the expense of the welfare R&D firms. These results may explain some of the acrimony in the debate about plant gene patenting and genetic use-restriction technologies (GURTs). Results suggest that the optimum IPR appropriability level is greater than that which exists in the North American seed corn market, but lower than would exist if GURTs were to become widely used. The optimal appropriability level is much higher than that which is achieved in situations where crops are open pollinated or where IPR protection is limited, and this may help explain and justify the relevance of public research in these situations.Crop Production/Industries,
