Improved decision support for bridge safety assessment and maintenance by probabilistic methods
When assessing the safety of existing bridges, uncertainties, information, and consequences are different compared to the design stage. Higher-level verification formats, such as probabilistic and risk-based methods, may help overcome these challenges but are rarely used in practice. With this thesis, the implementation of these methods into practice is accelerated by i) demonstration of information integration by probabilistic methods on realistic assessment situations, ii) application of Bayesian decision-making to bridge maintenance to find optimal intervention strategies and iii) improvement of the design value method by tailored alpha values. This PhD project thereby improves the basis for safely keeping existing bridges in service to a greater extent, instead of building new ones
Chick Lit in Historical Settings by Frida Skybäck
Chick lit is mostly contemporary portrayals of single women in cities. The Swedish author Frida Skybäck writes “chick lit in corsets”, that is, chick lit in a historical setting, and she writes primarily for teenage girls. Her two novels Charlotte Hassel (2011) and Den vita frun (2012) balance between chick lit jr. and romance. They can also be read as historical novels, and in my article I highlight how Skybäck has consciously played with the different genres to convey a feminist message and to strengthen young readers

Frida Kahlo -näytelmän puvustusprosessi
Opinnäytetyön aiheena on Kuopion kaupungin teatterissa vuonna 2016 keväällä ensi-iltansa saanut Frida Kahlo -
näytelmän puvustusprosessi. Opinnäytetyössä prosessia tarkasteltiin J. Michael Gilletten teatterituotantoon tarkoitetun suunnittelu-ja ongemanratkaisumallin avulla.
Tekijä toimi opinnäytetyö-ja työharjoittelujakson aikana skenografi Marie Antikaisen assistenttina ja puvustusprosessin havainnoijana Frida Kahlo -näytelmässä. Tekijä suunnitteli näytelmän tanssikohtauksiin viidelle tanssijalle puvut. Havainnoinnin lisäksi opinnäytetyöhön haastateltiin koko näytelmän puvustuksen suunnitellutta skenografi Marie Antikaista sekä puvustonhoitaja Pirkko Jokelaa, joilta saatiin arvokasta tietoa siitä, miten näytelmän puvustus syntyi tällaiseen taidepainotteiseen näytelmään.
Havainnointiaineistoa hankittiin näytelmään ensisijaisesti näytelmän käsikirjoituksesta, elokuvasta, elämäkerroista, pukuhistoriasta, ajankuvasta sekä näytelmän harjoituksista, kyselemällä ja kuuntelemalla ohjaajaa ja muita teatteriproduktion työntekijöitä.
Opinnäytetyön tuloksena syntyi raportti, jossa opittiin käytännössä soveltamaan J. Michael Gilletten ongelmanratkaisumallia. Raportissa sovellettiin myös muita esille tuotuja luovan prosessin työkaluja lopputuloksen saavuttamiseksi. The subject of the final thesis is clothing of the play of Frida Kahlo. The premiere was played in spring 2016. The clothing design process was considerd by the method of J.Michael Gillette, which is meant to be theatre production workers. The final thesis and training were connected to the same process.
During the training period the author worked as an assistant and observer in the play of Frida Kahlo. The author had also designed a dancing costume for five people in the Frida Kahlo play’s dancing scene. The whole play’s costumes designer, scenographer and costumier Marie Antikainen and also wardrobekeeper Pirkko Jokela were interviewed for this work. They gave important information on how to create this kind of costumes and how they choose these clothes to this kind of oriented play.
The observation material was collected this play from the place in plays script, movies, biography, the history of fashion, the plays scenes, asking and listenig to the director and other theatre production members.
As a result of final thesis is this report where I learned in practice to apply J. Michael Gillette’s method. I used in the report also other creative methods
Assessment of Existing Bridges in Norway
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration maintains the road network in Norway. The administration has its own guidelines for the inspection and capacity assessment of bridges, of which maintenance decisions are based on. With a large portfolio of ageing and deteriorating bridges, an efficient and systematic way for deciding on optimal methods and timing for the maintenance of bridges is very valuable for bridge managers.
The objective of this thesis is to explore and illustrate the potential that a decision making framework concerning assessments of existing bridges in Norway would bring. In the study, an emphasis was put on reinforced concrete structures subject to deterioration due to carbonation induced corrosion and chloride induced corrosion. Common condition assessment and repair and rehabilitation methods were reviewed. An example was established to illustrate the process of determining the optimal inspection and repair strategy using Bayesian decision analysis. Current inspection practices at the administration were identified and an interview was conducted with an employee to get further insight into their methods. Service life modelling was introduced as a tool that can be used to predict damage development and to plan maintenance measures. Recent inspection and capacity assessments of an existing bridge performed by the administration were presented. Finally, an example illustrating the application of the service life modelling approach for an existing bridge was established.
The study shows that the Bayesian decision method is effective to find an optimal solution in a consistent way. The inspection practices currently used by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration can be improved by implementing probabilistic methods. Risk and vulnerability analyses should be a standardised routine linked to the inspection of every bridge in the system. Predictive deterioration models have the potential to guide decision making in bridge management. The models can be updated by incorporating inspection data, resulting in better accuracy. Same goes for the capacity assessment method used at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, which can be improved by using probabilistic methods with updating of parameters through inspection results. The probabilistic models can be adapted to include deterioration

Frida Framework Implementation for Workflow Manipulation in Android Applications: Implementasi Frida Framework untuk Manipulasi Alur Kerja pada Aplikasi Android
Enhancing security on Android devices has posed challenges for security researchers. Root bypass is a commonly employed method to evade detection by security mechanisms. In this research, the author explains the utilization of Frida, a dynamic instrumentation framework, for performing root bypass on Android devices. By leveraging Frida's capabilities for runtime code interception and modification, the author can alter the behavior of applications attempting to detect root presence. A series of experiments were conducted using Frida, successfully by passing common root detection mechanisms. The results demonstrate Frida's potential as an effective tool for root bypass and security testing on Android devices. This research provides further insights into the use of Frida in the context of Android device securit
Framework for semi-probabilistic assessment of existing concrete structures, with and without the effect of chloride-induced corrosion
Reinforced concrete has been the most used construction material for several decades. Many concrete structures have reached or will soon reach their intended service life. Followingly, there is an increasing need for methods to ensure that old concrete structures are safe. There exist several approaches for assessing existing structures. However, a framework with the perfect balance between usability and accuracy in terms of structural reliability does not exist. This thesis tries to propose improved assessment frameworks based on the partial factor method and Fib's updated partial factor methods.
The first part of the thesis focuses on improving the available methods for non-deteriorated existing structures. This is done by substituting the traditional standardized sensitivity factors used to estimate partial safety factors, with problem-specific approximated sensitivity factors. The approximation method estimates the sensitivity factors for different variables based on standard deviation, as if the limit state was a linear combination of non-dependent normal distributed variables. It is shown that this approximation improves the updated safety factor methods significantly in terms of creating a semi-probabilistic control that corresponds to the prescribed reliability limit. Following this work, further investigation to validate the approximation for a broader spectrum of structures, creation of easy-to-use practical guidelines for the framework, and investigations on how the approximation can be performed simultaneously for several similar cases are recommended.
The second part of the thesis proposes a framework to include the effect of chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion in a semi-probabilistic assessment. This is done by outlining how a capacity reduction parameter can be calibrated for corrosion-exposed concrete structures. Based on the calibration, this parameter can be easily estimated for the specific structure at view. Furthermore, it is suggested to ensure structural reliability by calculating the design value of this parameter and include this in a semi-probabilistic verification. This work gives an overview of the suggested framework and provides some preliminary calculations indicating that the framework works as intended. However, the results provided in this report do not seem sufficient for practical use, and more specific attention to the calibration process, creation of guidelines for practical use, and validation of the outcome of the method is needed

The author remembers the great interest that Mexican painter Frida Kahlo\u27s (1907-1954) life and work have been generating among academics and artists in the last few years, but the reader of this work may notice that its main objective does not center on the myths that, based on the artist\u27s tragic existence and on the evident dramatic particularities in her work, were created and have had warm reception in the consumption society. Without understating these values, what the author intends, following a poetic perspective, is to evidence aspects of the plastic expressively resulting from the relation of Frida Kahlo\u27s pictorial texts with the Mexican pre-Columbian iconographies
