No full textPresented on March 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Crosland Tower, 7th floor reading room.Jack McDevitt is a former English teacher, naval officer, Philadelphia taxi driver, customs officer and motivational trainer. His work has been on the final ballot for the Nebula Awards for 12 of the past 13 years, and he holds 16 nominations in total. His first novel, The Hercules Text, was published in the celebrated Ace Specials series and won the Philip K. Dick Special Award. In 1991, McDevitt won the first $10,000 UPC International Prize for his novella, "Ships in the Night." The Engines of God was a finalist for the Arthur C. From the ‘freedom of the streets’: a biographical study of culture and social change in the life and work of writer Jack Common (1903-1968)
Get PDFThe author assesses the life and work of the Newcastle upon Tyne born writer Jack Common in the light of the massive social, economic and cultural changes which have affected the North East of England and wider society through the period of Common's life and afterwards. He seeks to point out the relevance of Common to the present day in terms of his ideas about class, community and the individual and in the light of Common's sense of rebelliousness influenced by a process of grass-roots education and self-improvement. In addition, he draws upon his own extensive experience in community arts and education, looking, in particular, at the work he and others have carried out on Common over the last thirty years and assessing its value in the light of recent political changes. The author draws together the range of biographical and literary criticism carried out by a range of individuals over this period of time and brings into print hitherto unpublished material about Common's life and work by interviewing family members and associates, exploring the Common Archive at Newcastle University and other largely ignored sources, and studying Common's significant association with George Orwell in great detail. Through all of this, he seeks to argue that Common's life and ideas remain worthy of close attention in the present day

Dynamics of jack-up platforms in elevated condition
No full textThe main objective of this study is to get an insight into the dynamic behaviour of a jack-up platform with lattice legs, in elevated condition. The main parameters to be examined are: a. Water loads b. Deck motions c. Hydrodynamic damping These parameters will ba investigated for the excitation ot the platform by a regular wave as weIl as a stochastic sea state represented by a JONSWAP wave spectrum. An attempt will be made to tind statistical distribution functions tor the water loads and the platform motions for the case of aspectral reprentation of the waves at sea. A numerical approach to handle jack-up dynamics is developed, together with the necessary computer programs, applicable to a wide range of jack-up platforms and environmental conditions. Much attention will be paid to comparin; frequency domain analysis and time domain analysis. In order to get a verification of the general results, the resulting numerical model will be applied to a Russian platform, the Kolskaya, which is shown on the cover of this report.Hydraulic EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience

The author uses the text study method in analyzing the collected data with the aim of describing the content clearly and in detail and aiming to reveal the concept of Jack C. Richard's thinking in learning receptive language skills and knowing the right receptive learning concept in learning receptive Arabic skills in adult education. The results of this study found that Jack C Richard's thoughts can be applied to adult education, especially in learning receptive Arabic skills by adjusting the conditions and situations that exist in the material and adult learners
