Amanda Labarca Huberston: Legado y actualidad de una profesora extraordinaria
No full textThe aim of this paper is to reconstruct the personal, intellectual, and social trajectory of Amanda Labarca Huberston, one of the pioneers in the field of university teaching, devoted to the Chilean and Latin American schoolteaching. She was an outstanding political activist and fighter for universal suffrage, as well as for the rights of women. With this theoretical documentary analysis I intend to understand the biographical situation and the pedagogical proposal of Amanda Labarca. The method used was qualitative-descriptive, with a historiographic design developed with the methodological triangulation of primary and secondary sources. The results of this work may raise interest in an unexplored field of educational research in Chile: the life histories of Chilean teachers.El objetivo del presente artículo es reconstruir la trayectoria personal, intelectual y social de Amanda Labarca Huberston, una de las pioneras en el campo de la docencia universitaria, consagrada al magisterio de la pedagogía chilena y latinoamericana, destacada activista política y luchadora por el sufragio universal y por los derechos de las mujeres. Con el análisis teórico documental pretendo comprender la situación biográfica y la propuesta pedagógica de Amanda Labarca. El método fue cualitativo-descriptivo, con un diseño historiográfico desarrollado a partir de la triangulación metodológica entre fuentes primarias y secundarias. Los resultados pueden contribuir a promover el interés por estudiar un campo inexplorado por la investigación educativa en Chile: la historia de vida de las maestras chilenas.O objetivo do presente artigo é reconstruir a trajetória pessoal, intelectual e social de Amanda Labarca Huberston, uma das pioneiras no campo da docência universitária, consagrada ao magistério da pedagogia chilena e latino-americana, destacada ativista política e militante pelo sufrágio universal e pelos direitos das mulheres. Amanda Labarca e as primeiras instituições feministas no Chile (1910-1922)
Get PDFChile underwent profound social changes at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. In this context, women began to organize themselves in public spaces to improve their living conditions in different spheres. This article analyses the contribution of Amanda Labarca to theorganization of the first feminist institutions in Chile (1910-1922). It looks at this from a cultural-historicalperspective to understand the implications that such women’s organizations had on the country’sprogress at the time, drawing on both primary and secondary sources of evidence. The findings showthat Labarca played a leading role in the then incipient Chilean feminist movement, as materializedby her leadership in the creation of the Círculo de Lectura in 1915. She also played an active role in various women’s groups that evolved into academic, cultural, and political organizations that were consolidated between 1930-1950Chile registró profundos cambios sociales a finales del s. XIX e inicios del s. XX. En este contexto, las mujeres comienzan a organizarse en el espacio público para mejorar su condición devida en distintas esferas. El presente artículo realiza un análisis de la contribución de Amanda Labarcaa la organización de las primeras instituciones feministas en Chile (1910-1922), lo cual se aborda desde la historia cultural para comprender las implicancias que tuvo la organización de las mujeres en el progreso del país, lo que se realizó a partir de fuentes primarias y secundarias. Los hallazgosevidencian el protagonismo de Labarca en el entonces incipiente movimiento feminista chileno lo que se materializó con su liderazgo en la creación del Círculo de Lectura en 1915. Posteriormente tuvo un rol activo en diversas agrupaciones de mujeres que evolucionaron a organizaciones académicas, culturales y políticas que se consolidaron entre 1930-1950.O Chile registrou grandes mudanças sociais no final do século XIX e começo do séculoXX. Neste contexto, as mulheres começaram a organizar-se no espaço público para melhorar sua condição de vida em diversas esferas. Este artigo faz uma análise da contribuição de Amanda Labarca à organização das primeiras instituições feministas chilenas (1910-1922), abordando, a partir da história cultural, para compreender as implicações que teve a organização das mulheres no progresso do país, o que se realizou a partir de fontes primárias e secundárias. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDFThis article contributes to reflect on the contributions made by the Chilean intellectual Amanda Labarca in the hybridizations between philosophy and psychology, which allows us to reflect on the reflections and debates that arose in the educational field in the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. Primary sources were mainly used to address various aspects of the work of Amanda Labarca and her early works related to education and teaching were used. Relevance was assigned to her work Lecciones de Filosofía (1922), which, being an eminently philosophical text, also reflects the preludes of general and educational psychology in Chile, which are presented in a period of immersion in which a young Labarca studied in depth and disseminated the main American authors who forged the links between both disciplines (philosophy and psychology).El presente artículo contribuye a reflexionar en torno a los aportes que realizara la intelectual chilena Amanda Labarca en las hibridaciones entre filosofía y psicología, lo que permite discurrir hacia reflexiones y debates que se suscitan en el campo educativo en el tránsito del siglo XIX al XX. Se utilizó principalmente fuentes primarias para abordar diversos aspectos de la obra de Amanda Labarca y se recurrió a sus primeros trabajos vinculados a la educación y enseñanza. Se asignó relevancia a su obra Lecciones de Filosofía (1922), la que siendo un texto eminentemente filosófico, a su vez, refleja los preludios de la psicología general y educativa en Chile, los cuales se presentan en un período de inmersión en el cual una joven Labarca estudió en profundidad y divulgó a los principales autores estadounidenses que forjaron los nexos entre ambas disciplinas (filosofía y psicología)
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
