    No full text
Autograph work and attributions.- The analysis of the great scale Valencia plan made by T.A. Tosca (1704) allows to reject its relationship with the A. Manceli's previous plan (1608) in spite of certain coincidences. The reduced printed edition with the Tosca's heading (1738 ca.) is a posthumous work due to his disciples. Although attributed to the same author, two plans of Saint Thomas parish have been drawn by a related author, Llorenç Mansilla. The isometric perspective used in these plans was at that time an usual practice by the military planimetry. Finally, a dock project of 1700, in which Tosca took part, is here commented. Palabras clave / Mots clé / Key wordsValencia, Tomás V. Tosca, Historia de la cartografía urbana.Valencia, Tomás V. For an intergenerational ethics: reflections based on the approaches of Hans Jonas and Elena Pulcini

    No full text

VALIDATION OF THE TOSCA-3 AMONG CHINESE YOUNG ADULTS

In this study, we translated into Chinese the Test of Self-Conscious Affect Version 3 (TOSCA-3) and examined the reliability and validity using 3 independent samples of Chinese young adults. The Chinese version (TOSCA-3C) showed acceptable internal consistency and test-retest reliability in all its subscales except for the 2 pride scales. Shame-proneness was found to be positively correlated with trait shame, state anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation. Shame-proneness was found to be negatively correlated with self-esteem. Guilt-proneness was not correlated with any of the measurements. Shame-proneness was also a significant predictor of depression symptoms 2 weeks after the first assessment for depressive symptoms, with self-esteem as a full mediator of this relationship.http://gateway.webofknowledge.com/gateway/Gateway.cgi?GWVersion=2&SrcApp=PARTNER_APP&SrcAuth=LinksAMR&KeyUT=WOS:000323000600014&DestLinkType=FullRecord&DestApp=ALL_WOS&UsrCustomerID=8e1609b174ce4e31116a60747a720701Psychology, SocialSSCI0ARTICLE71209-12184

The PhD dissertation of Erin M. Brooks, now Assistant Professor of Music History at the Crane School of Music (State University of New York at Potsdam), investigates the relationship between Sarah Bernhardt, the first performer of Floria in La Tosca, and the music of her time, including incidental music. Within this text, a relevant discovery of the author is mentioned, namely a manuscript of the stage music composed by a certain Louis Pister for Sardou’s pièce, preserved today at the National Library of Australia. The aim of this contribution is to propose a critical edition of the music composed by Pister, an essential document for the analysis of Sardou’s play. Moreover, we will try to reconstruct, through the inspection of contemporary periodicals, the reception of La Tosca and the biographical profile of the forgotten composer of incidental music.

The preface of a book is one of the main examples of paratexts, defined by Gérard Genette as those devices and conventions that enable a text to become a book. It can provide information about aspects such as the author''s motivation and intention, the origin of the presented ideas, the potential readers, etc. In the particular case of a mathematical text devoted to some extent to teaching, the preface can provide information about the author''s conceptions and beliefs about mathematics, its teaching and learning. In this work, we analyze the preface of Compendio Mathematico written by Thomas Vicente Tosca in 1707. This approach will allow us to have a view of how the teaching and learning of mathematics as well as mathematics itself were conceived during Spanish pre-enlightenment.

TuberOus SClerosis registry to increase disease Awareness (TOSCA) – baseline data on 2093 patients

BACKGROUND: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder. Many gaps remain in the understanding of TSC because of the complexity in clinical presentation. The TuberOus SClerosis registry to increase disease Awareness (TOSCA) is an international disease registry designed to address knowledge gaps in the natural history and management of TSC. Here, we present the baseline data of TOSCA cohort. METHODS: Patients of any age diagnosed with TSC, having a documented visit for TSC within the preceding 12 months, or newly diagnosed individuals were included. The registry includes a "core" section designed to record detailed background information on each patient including disease manifestations, interventions, and outcomes collected at baseline and updated annually. "Subsections" of the registry recorded additional data related to specific features of TSC. RESULTS: Baseline "core" data from 2093 patients enrolled from 170 sites across 31 countries were available at the cut-off date September 30, 2014. Median age of patients at enrollment was 13 years (range, 0-71) and at diagnosis of TSC was 1 year (range, 0-69). The occurrence rates of major manifestations of TSC included - cortical tubers (82.2%), subependymal nodules (78.2%), subependymal giant cell astrocytomas (24.4%), renal angiomyolipomas (47.2%), lymphangioleiomyomatosis (6.9%), cardiac rhabdomyomas (34.3%), facial angiofibromas (57.3%), forehead plaque (14.1%), ≥ 3 hypomelanotic macules (66.8%), and shagreen patches (27.4%). Epilepsy was reported in 1748 (83.5%) patients, of which 1372 were diagnosed at ≤ 2 years (78%). Intellectual disability was identified in 451 (54.9%) patients of those assessed. TSC-associated neuropsychiatric disorders (TAND) were diagnosed late, and not evaluated in 30-50% of patients. CONCLUSION: TOSCA is the largest clinical case series of TSC to date. It provided a detailed description of the disease trajectory with increased awareness of various TSC manifestations. The rates of different features of TSC reported here reflect the age range and referral patterns of clinics contributing patients to the cohort. Documentation of TAND and LAM was poor. A widespread adoption of the international TSC assessment and treatment guidelines, including use of the TAND Checklist, could improve surveillance. The registry provides valuable insights into the necessity for monitoring, timing, and indications for the treatment of TSC

Motherhood is a central life experience to female identity and to the configuration of gender roles in any society. However, despite this centrality, the figure of motherhood in literature has not been studied until a few decades ago. The purpose of this essay is to contribute to this growing academic corpus, analyzing how the Chilean writer Isabel Allende represents motherhood in a small part of her work, specifically two stories: "Clarisa" and "Tosca". This work is an ethnoliterarian analysis in which, using Jungian theory, we identify underlying archetypes in the text with the aim of reconstructing motherhood discourses represented in the texts. In addition, I analyzed the attitudes of the narrator towards those discourses. Even though the protagonists of her stories subvert in a certain way the gender roles imposed on them, in general lines Isabel Allende reproduces Chilean dominant motherhood discourse. Furthermore, the Chilean author shows a very conservative attitude in this regard

Human-centered robotisation at KLM Engines: A co-design tool for FRAIM & KLM Engines to explore and evaluate the possibilities & limitations of robotising the workflow

    No full text
The demand for robots in the industry is increasing. Organisations acknowledge the need to innovate in order to keep up with the competition. When robots were first introduced, they took over human tasks if they could execute the task faster than humans. However, this often has a negative effect on the meaningfulness of work. That’s why cobots were introduced, robots that could work together with humans in the same workplace. This provided the industry with many new opportunities. However, as with any new technology, research has to be done to find out how this technology can best be implemented. That’s why FRAIM was founded. They are researching how cobots can be introduced without decreasing the meaningfulness of humans’ work. FRAIM decided to join the Brightsky project, to take their research into practice. However, with the Brightsky project, FRAIM is facing other challenges. Not only does the technical feasibility have to be researched, but also the employees’ needs and other stakeholder values have to be taken into account. A challenge that can be perfectly tackled with a human-centered design approach.Firstly, through interviewing and stakeholder mapping, the essential stakeholders are identified. These stakeholders have high power or/and high interest in the company and thus contribute to the future of the organisation. Afterwards, the stakeholders are brought together for a co-creation session. In this session, the stakeholders discuss their individual needs and values to identify the contradictions and similarities. Next, a shared vision is created, representing the stakeholders’ view on ‘optimising’ the workflow. A stakeholder which is often negatively affected by the implementation of robots, is the employee, their needs are often neglected. That’s why this project’s focus is mostly on this stakeholder. During context mapping sessions, the themes of meaningful work are identified. These themes represent the conditions of meaningful work for the employees at KLM Engines.During the research phase, it became clear that the stakeholders are unaware of the contradictions and similarities of their values. Furthermore, the knowledge and skills needed to understand the possibilities and limitations of implementing robots and their consequences on the stakeholders are lacking. In the design phase, a co-design is created to tackle this challenge. Co-design is chosen, because it is well-known to be used for bringing together different expertise and for sharing knowledge and skills. Besides, the concept of game design is used. Game design helps to represent a real-life situation in a fun and engaging way and helps the participants to explore different scenarios. Using game design helps to visualise the consequences of robots on the workflow well. The co-design is tested and evaluated to assess if the co-design meets the design requirements and to discover how the tool can be improved. A final iteration is done to improve the concept.Lastly, the project is concluded and reflected on. The limitations of the project are discussed and future research and design recommendations are proposed.Strategic Product Desig

On the basis of the author’s participation in the “Massive and Microscopic Sensemaking” autoethnographic experiment, this article suggests that researchers can use videogame rhetoric as a heuristic to think through the timelessness of the pandemic lockdown. The author used her autoethnographic field notes as background material to write a series of short fictional videogame narratives, in the methodological tradition of layered ethnographic accounts.</p

    Transmedial Reading

    No full text
This chapter explores the category of transmedial reading, referring to reading experiences that go beyond a single text and are related to bigger fictional universes. Through an empirical reading case of a comic book, it argues that reading in transmedial environments is always multiple. Readers interpret the text in relation to a whole ecology of related media products set in the same fictional world. How does the new text fit the worldness that readers have built up through years of engagement? What kinds of relations are established, and how is the reader’s own affect activated in relation to a set of personal memories? The chapter proposes a transmedial reading interview method based on the author´s own theoretical framework. This chapter explores the category of transmedial reading, referring to reading experiences that go beyond a single text and are related to bigger fictional universes.
