No full textAustrotinodes chagasi sp. nov. urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:99DB52C3-4BE7-4DFE-8FCB-96673F9AC866 Figs 4, 14 Diagnosis This species resembles A. bracteatus in the shape of its intermediate appendage, which is elongate, club-shaped and possesses stout spine-like setae near its apex. However, A. chagasi sp. nov. can be easily distinguished from A. bracteatus by its more elongate and crenulated preanal appendages, and especially by the general structure of the phallus, which has a branched lateral process, with a long finger-like ventral branch, whereas in the formerly described species the lateral process is shorter and not branched. Etymology The species is dedicated to the Brazilian sanitary physician, scientist and bacteriologist Carlos Justiniano Ribeiro Chagas, who was born at Oliveira in Minas Gerais state in 1879 and died in 1934. Carlos Chagas described, in 1909, the disease named after him (Chagas disease) as well as the etiological agent (Trypanosoma) and the vector (hematophagous insects, Triatoma infestans Klug, 1843). The deed of discovering all the links in the epidemiological chain of an infectious disease was absolutely unprecedented in the history of medicine. Length of forewing 4.00– 5.60 mm (n = 10). In alcohol, general color golden brown, with yellowish brown sclerites; antennae stramineous, dorsum of head golden brown, with pale yellow and dark brown setae; thorax golden brown dorsally, light yellow ventrally; legs yellow, legs segments with brown setae; wings pale brown, forewing with fine pale brown setae dorsally. WINGS. Forewing with R1 forked apically, forks II–V present; hind wing with forks II, III and V, discoidal cell absent. MALE GENITALIA. Segment IX deeply divided, sternum elongate; in lateral view, narrow basally, margins parallel-sided from distal half, ventral margin curved basally; in ventral view, about 2 times as long as wide, enlarged in distal half, apical margin convex. Phallic guide darkly sclerotized, not highly elevated; in lateral view, arched, base broad, apex rounded, reaching middle of inferior appendage. Inferior appendages fused mesally, attached apicomesally on sternum IX; in lateral view, elongate, ovate, apex rounded; in ventral view, lateral lobes very elongate, directed posterolaterally, posterior margin concave, crenulated. Tergum X divided into pair of semimembranous subtriangular lobes, lobes bulbous, bearing slender setae along inner margin; in lateral view, subrectangular. Preanal appendages long, surface setose, margin crenulated, parallel-sided, apex rounded. Intermediate appendages long, narrow, approximately ⅔ length of preanal appendage; in lateral view, club-shaped, enlarged apically, with 3 stout spine-like setae at apex (subapically positioned in dorsal view). Phallus with sclerotized phallobase and membranous apicoventral region; lateral process moderately elongate, bifid; dorsal branch short, robust, pointed posterodorsoapically, with 2 spines on distal half, the shorter one positioned on small projection; ventral branch long, finger-like in lateral view, wider at base in dorsal view, rounded apically, with 3 spines, 1 positioned on small projection near base, 1 almost at median region, and 1 at apex; without basomesal process. No full textWażnym czynnikiem rozwoju biotechnologii w Polsce są nowoczesne badania naukowe. Artykuł Perspektywy rozwoju biotechnologii w Polsce zwraca uwagę na to, że wiedza z zakresu nauk biologicznych i medycznych przyczynia się do większej konkurencyjności zarówno ośrodków naukowych i badawczych, jak i przedsiębiorstw. Biotechnologiczne projekty naukowo–badawcze realizowane w Polsce nie tworzą jeszcze podstaw do wytwarzania produktów biotechnologicznych w takim zakresie, by polskie przedsiębiorstwa mogły konkurować na rynku międzynarodowych. Jedną z przyczyn, którą analizuje Autor w artykule, jest niewystarczające inwestowanie w rozwój nauki i wsparcie dla małych i średnich firm w sektorze biotechnologii. MSP są najważniejszym elementem rozwoju tego sektora, ponieważ koncentrują się na tworzeniu i rozwoju nowoczesnych produktów biotechnologicznych. Artykuł został podzielony na dwie części: Szanse rozwoju nowoczesnej gospodarki w Polsce bez biotechnologii oraz Edukacja i projekty B+R. Autor finalizuje rozważania, pokazując pozytywny scenariusz dla rozwoju sektora biotechnologicznego w Polsce.Biotechnology uses biological processes in the development of technology or manufacture of a product. It is forecasted that Polish biotechnology industry will exceed very quickly. The technology and science parks in Poland have invested millions Euros to build new laboratories. Polish market is fuelled by increased R&D funding, central and regional governments initiatives. The article on “Polish perspectives of biotechnology development” identifies significant factors for biotechnology project development. It also indicates the examples of government biotechnology initiatives in the world. The author focuses on the statistical analysis of the research and development projects conducted by Polish scientist in scientific laboratories. Childhood of the poorest social strata in Gdańsk in the mid-nineteenth-century in light of Memories from the youth of a poor womanservant
No full textArtykuł traktuje o dzieciństwie najuboższych warstw społecznych w Gdańsku w latach pięćdziesiątych i sześćdziesiątych XIX wieku na przykładzie wspomnień anonimowej autorki niemieckiej, piszącej pod pseudonimem Marie Sansgêne. W części wprowadzającej zostały przedstawione informacje o źródle i jego autorce. Ponadto przybliżono warunki przeżywania dzieciństwa w XIX-wiecznym Gdańsku. W zasadniczej części artykułu ukazano natomiast problematykę dzieciństwa w narracji M. Sansgêne. W tym celu wyróżniono kilka zasadniczych obszarów, takich jak: zakres i charakter opiekuńczo-wychowawczych oddziaływań rodziców wobec dziecka; kształtowanie nawyków związanych z czystością i utrzymaniem porządku; przymus w życiu dziecka; współudział i współodpowiedzialność dziecka w tworzeniu domowego budżetu; realizacja obowiązku szkolnego; zabawy i czas wolny w życiu dziecka.The article is about the childhood of the poorest social strata in Gdańsk in the 1850s and 1860s based on the example of the memoirs of an anonymous German author, writing under the pseudonym Marie Sansgêne. The introductory part presents information about the source itself and its author. Moreover, the conditions of experiencing childhood in nineteenth-century Gdańsk were presented. The main part of the article presents the issues of childhood in the narrative of M. Sansgêne. To this goal, several basic areas have been distinguished, such as: the scope and nature of parental and educational influences towards a child; shaping habits related to cleanliness and keeping order; coercion in a child’s life; participation and responsibility of the child in creating the home budget; fulfilment of compulsory education; fun and free time in a child’s life.Uniwersytet Gdański17719

No full textVarious scholars point out the transfer of proper nouns as a difficulty. This paper examines the transfer of names in twenty‑one translations of the Grimm
Brothers’ fairy tale originally titled Rumpelstilzchen. The article analyses English,Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, and Japanese editions of this originally German story. The analysis focuses on the true name of a title dwarf and other names provided by the Queen. The article includes five analyses describing the onomastic
aspects of the translation and the applied translation strategies. The analysis suggests that the translators’ approach toward the matter of transfer of names varied
throughout the years and editions. The dominant strategies were replacement and transcription, and vary the most in case of common names (Cunz and Heinz).Wielu badaczy wskazuje transfer nazw własnych jako jedną z trudności przekładu. Niniejsza praca dotyczy translacji imion w dwudziestu jeden przekładach
baśni Rumpelstilzchen spod pióra braci Grimm. Analizie zostały poddane angielskie, brazylijskie, polskie, tureckie oraz japońskie wydania baśni napisanej pierwotnie
w języku niemieckim. Praca skupia się na analizie prawdziwego imienia tytułowego skrzata oraz imion wymienianych przez baśniową królową. Artykuł zawiera pięć analiz opisujących onomastyczne aspekty przekładu oraz zastosowane techniki tłumaczeniowe. Wyniki wskazują na to, że podejście tłumaczy do przekładu imion było różnorodne na przestrzeni lat oraz wydań. Najczęściej wykorzystywanymi technikami były zamiana oraz transkrypcja, a ich bogactwo jest szczególnie widoczne w podejściu do przekładu powszechnych imion, np. While in <i>A. belchiores</i> the intermediate appendages are bifid basally, with dorsal and basoventral branches, in the new species they are not branched, the basoventral branch lacking. Additionally, the species can be easily distinguished by the structure of the phallus, which has an ovate lateral process in <i>A. lattesi</i> sp. nov., while in <i>A. belchiores</i> it is elongate and bifid. The phallic guide is also less robust and more hook-like in the new species.</p> Etymology <p>The species is dedicated to the Brazilian physicist Cesare Mansueto Giulio Lattes, who was born at Curitiba in Paraná state in 1924 and died in 2005. César Lattes was one of the most distinguished and honored Brazilian physicists, and his work was fundamental for the development of atomic physics. In alcohol, general color yellowish brown, with golden brown sclerites; antennae stramineous, dorsum of head golden brown, with pale yellow and dark brown setae; thorax and legs yellow, legs segments with brown setae; wings pale yellow, forewing with fine pale yellow setae dorsally.</p> <p>WINGS. Forewing with R1 forked apically, forks II–V present; hind wing with forks II, III and V, discoidal cell absent.</p> <p>MALE GENITALIA. Segment IX deeply divided, sternum elongate; in lateral view, narrow basally, enlarging apically, ventral margin slightly convex; in ventral view, little longer than wide, narrow at base, enlarging to apex, apical margin slightly convex. Phallic guide darkly sclerotized, elevated over inferior appendages; in lateral view, strongly arched, base broad, apex rounded, reaching middle of inferior appendage. Inferior appendages fused mesally, attached apicomesally on sternum IX; in lateral view, short, subrectangular, apex rounded; in ventral view, lateral lobes moderately elongate, directed posterolaterally, posterior margin slightly concave, not crenulated. Tergum X divided into pair of semimembranous subtriangular lobes, lobes bulbous, bearing slender setae along inner margin; in lateral view, subrectangular. Preanal appendages long, surface setose, margin slightly crenulated, wider at base, gently tapering apically, apex rounded. No full textOddajemy kolejną książkę poświęconą Dziecku w historii – między godnością a zniewoleniem, będącą pokłosiem międzynarodowej konferencji naukowej, w trakcie której dyskutowano o godności i zniewoleniu dziecka. Pierwszy tom opisujący dzieje dziecka został zatytułowany Dziecko w historii – wątek korczakowski. Kolejny był związany z jubileuszem 1050. rocznicy Chrztu Polski i ukazał się pod tytułem Dziecko w historii – w kręgu kultury chrześcijańskiej. Celem trzeciego było upamiętnienie 100. rocznicy odzyskania przez Polskę niepodległości, jego tytuł Dziecko w historii - sytuacja dziecka w odrodzonym państwie polskim. Obecna monografia Dziecko w historii jest powiązana z jubileuszem 40-lecia istnienia Katedry/Zakładu Historii Wychowania Wydziału Nauk o Edukacji Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku. Akcentując wątek jubileuszowy Katedry Historii Wychowania zaprosiliśmy też ekspertów różnych dyscyplin naukowych do kolejnej dysputy akademickiej, tym razem poświęconej godności osobowej, osobowościowej i osobistej dziecka w sytuacji zniewolenia, utraty wolności, swobody – całkowitej zależności od innych. Głównym celem książki Dziecko w historii – między godnością a zniewoleniem jest próba odpowiedzi na pytania: Jakie były i są źródła praw człowieka? Czy godność jednostki była i jest nadal wartością? Jakie w przeszłości były i są współcześnie przyczyny zniewolenia jednostki? Dlaczego dochodzi do ograniczania wolności człowieka i tłamszenia jego godności? Poszukiwanie odpowiedzi na sformułowane pytania jest o tyle ważne, że godność człowieka w naszej kulturze stanowi fundament przyjmowanej powszechnie koncepcji człowieka. Tymczasem we współczesnym świecie, zdeterminowanym głównie przez czynniki polityczne i gospodarcze oparte na modelu neoliberalnego kapitalizmu, następuje pogłębianie różnic społeczno-ekonomicznych prowadzących do poszerzania przestrzeni i grup wykluczenia oraz relatywizacji i dewaluacji samej idei poszanowania godności ludzkiej. Lista zagadnień, które stały się przedmiotem analizy jest szeroka, nie zamyka się w ciasnych ramach subdyscyplin pedagogicznych, a ich przekaz ma wymiar interdyscyplinarny, wieloaspektowy i międzynarodowy. Autorami poszczególnych rozdziałów monografii są eksperci różnych dyscyplin naukowych: filozofii i teologii, pedagogiki, historii, prawa i socjologii z Polski i z różnych ośrodków zagranicznych: Albanii, Anglii, i Włoch. Układ książki jest chronologiczno – problemowy. Ze względu na objętość i wielość zgłoszonych rozpraw prezentujemy je w dwóch odrębnych tomach składających się z dwóch części zatytułowanych: Część I - Katedra Historii Wychowania i jej inicjatywy promujące godność człowieka, Część II -Między godnością a zniewoleniem. Część pierwsza obejmuje dwa rozdziały. W rozdziale pierwszym zaprezentowano dzieje powołania Zakładu Historii Wychowania i jego twórcę, prezentacji rozwoju i dokonań białostockiej szkoły historii wychowania oraz nowe kierunki i perspektywy badań. W rozdziale drugim autorzy zaakcentowali wątek jubileuszu 40-lecia Katedry/Zakładu Historii Wychowania. Część druga została podzielona na cztery rozdziały. Pierwszy z nich obejmuje naukowe rozważania nad zdefiniowaniem godności w pedagogice personalistycznej, działalności wychowawczej. Autorzy wskazują na potrzebę wykreowania ideologii negocjacji i równoważenia dialogu wewnętrznego i zewnętrznego, dowodzą, że zmieniające się uwarunkowania społeczno – kulturowe życia nie mogą wymusić zmiany w interpretacji godności dziecka. Poddają analizie ochronę praw dziecka w prawie międzynarodowym i regulacjach krajowych oraz wskazują na przejawy zniewolenia, które stanowią zagrożenie dla wolności, a tym samym godności osobowej, godności osobowościowej, jak i godności osobistej człowieka na różnych etapach jego rozwoju. Autorzy artykułów rozdziału drugiego podjęli rozważania nad lepszym zrozumieniem dzieciństwa i sytuacji dzieci z różnych warstw społecznych, o różnych potrzebach edukacyjnych i doświadczeniach. Ukazali jak w sposób praktyczny wprowadzano inicjatywy skierowane do dzieci. W trzecim rozdziale autorzy przedstawili ideę budowania autonomii uczniowskiej z perspektywy edukacji wczesnoszkolnej, ukazali genezę i założenia prawa do edukacji w kontekście Konwencji o Prawach Dziecka. Podjęli refleksję nad godnościowym wymiarem edukacji międzykulturowej w świetle regulacji prawa międzynarodowego, europejskiego i polskiego, kwestie dotyczące znaczenia pielęgnowania pokoju w edukacji poprzez nauczanie praw człowieka uczniów szkół średnich oraz tworzenie wzorów osobowych. Czwarty rozdział prezentuje artykuły młodych adeptów nauki poświęcone obronie godności i praw dziecka, kierunków postępowania w zakresie ochrony, pomocy i wsparcia z perspektywy regulacji prawnych, wskazań medycznych i wychowawczych. Mamy nadzieję, że książka spotka się z szerokim zainteresowaniem ekspertów nauk społecznych i humanistycznych, a także władz oświatowych i nauczycieli oraz rodziców bowiem w polskiej historiografii wciąż odczuwa się niedosyt prac badawczych związanych z dzieckiem i jego dziejami na przestrzeni wieków.We present another book devoted to the Child in history - between dignity and enslavement, which was the aftermath of an international scientific conference, during which the dignity and enslavement of the child was discussed. The first volume describing the history of the child is entitled Child in history - korczakowski's plot. The next one was related to the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland and appeared under the title Child in history - in the circle of Christian culture. The purpose of the third one was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence, its title Child in history - the situation of a child in the reborn Polish state. The current monograph Child in history is related to the 40th anniversary of the Chair / Department of History of Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Bialystok. Emphasizing the jubilee theme of the Department of the History of Education, we also invited experts from various scientific disciplines to another academic debate, this time devoted to the personality and personal dignity of a child in a situation of enslavement, loss of freedom, liberty - complete dependence on others. The main goal of the book A child in history - between dignity and enslavement is an attempt to answer the following questions: What were and are the sources of human rights? Has the dignity of the individual been and still is a value? What were and are the reasons for the enslavement of an individual in the past and what are they today? Why are human freedom limited and dignity suppressed?The search for answers to the formulated questions is important because human dignity in our culture is the foundation of the commonly accepted human concept. Meanwhile, in the contemporary world, determined mainly by political and economic factors based on the model of neoliberal capitalism, there is an increase in socio-economic differences leading to the expansion of the space and groups of exclusion, as well as relativization and devaluation of the very idea of respecting human dignity. The list of issues that have become the subject of analysis is wide, not limited to the narrow framework of pedagogical sub-disciplines, and their message has an interdisciplinary, multifaceted, and international dimension. The authors of the individual chapters of the monograph are experts from various scientific disciplines: philosophy and theology, pedagogy, history, law, and sociology from Poland and from foreign centers: Albania, England, and Italy. The layout of the book is chronological and problematic. Due to the volume and multiplicity of the dissertations submitted, we present them in two separate volumes consisting of two parts entitled: Part I - Department of the History of Upbringing and its initiatives promoting human dignity, Part II - Between dignity and enslavement. The first part consists of two chapters. The first chapter presents the history of the establishment of the Department of the History of Education and its founder, the presentation of the development and achievements of the Bialystok School of the History of Education, as well as new directions and perspectives for research. In the second chapter, the authors emphasized the 40th anniversary of the Chair / Department of the History of Education. The second part is divided into four chapters. The first one includes scientific considerations on the definition of dignity in personalistic pedagogy and educational activity. The authors point to the need to create an ideology of negotiation and to balance internal and external dialogue, they argue that the changing social and cultural conditions of life cannot force a change in the interpretation of the dignity of a child. They analyze the protection of children's rights in international law and national regulations and point to the manifestations of slavery that pose a threat to freedom, and thus to personality dignity, and personal dignity at various stages of human development. The authors of the second chapter articles considered a better understanding of childhood and the situation of children from different social strata, with different educational needs and experiences. They showed how initiatives aimed at children were implemented in a practical way. In the third chapter, the authors presented the idea of building student autonomy from the perspective of early childhood education, showed the genesis and assumptions of the right to education in the context of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. They reflect on the dignity dimension of intercultural education in the light of international, European, and Polish law, issues related to the importance of nurturing peace in education by teaching human rights to high school students and creating role models. The fourth chapter presents articles by young science students devoted to defending the dignity and rights of children, directions of conduct in the field of protection, assistance, and support from the perspective of legal regulations, medical and educational indications. Simulation of thermal plant optimization and hydraulic aspects of thermal distribution loops for large campuses
No full textFollowing an introduction, the author describes Texas A&M University and its utilities system. After that, the author presents how to construct simulation models for chilled water and heating hot water distribution systems. The simulation model was used in a $2.3 million Ross Street chilled water pipe replacement project at Texas A&M University. A second project conducted at the University of Texas at San Antonio was used as an example to demonstrate how to identify and design an optimal distribution system by using a simulation model. The author found that the minor losses of these closed loop thermal distribution systems are significantly higher than potable water distribution systems. In the second part of the report, the author presents the latest development of software called the Plant Optimization Program, which can simulate cogeneration plant operation, estimate its operation cost and provide optimized operation suggestions. The author also developed detailed simulation models for a gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator and identified significant potential savings. Finally, the author also used a steam turbine as an example to present a multi-regression method on constructing simulation models by using basic statistics and optimization algorithms. This report presents a survey of the author??s working experience at the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M University during the period of January 2002 through March 2004. The purpose of the above work was to allow the author to become familiar with the practice of engineering. The result is that the author knows how to complete a project from start to finish and understands how both technical and nontechnical aspects of a project need to be considered in order to ensure a quality deliverable and bring a project to successful completion. This report concludes that the objectives of the internship were successfully accomplished and that the requirements for the degree of Degree of Engineering have been satisfied
